lol le game is le bad intentionally
It's not bad, though. It's unorthodox, sure, but it plays very well.
It's objectively ugly and uncanny on purpose for the sake of being so. An intentionally shit designed game is still shit.
>An intentionally shit designed game is still shit.
what game are we talking about?
But you're talking purely about aesthetics, not game design.
Confirmed filtered. It is legitimately fun and has a lot of fun different ways you can customize yourself to beat missions.
This, it's not a bad game also the settings for the game are interesting
it's fun until the later levels when the level design devolves into death corridors
It's literally good.
it's not bad
the graphics is intentionally repulsive but the gameplay is great [s]except for maybe a few levels
>bad intentionally
It's a good game presented as a bad game, the visuals and music are absolute cancer-inducing nightmares disguising deceptively engaging free-form gameplay. The only real knock I have on this game is that there aren't enough good ways to mitigate fall damage for maximum FAST.
The soundtrack's the best part of the game imo. The score in the apartment escape level gives off otherworldly levels of dread
>The score in the apartment escape level gives off otherworldly levels of dread
That shit fucking SLAPS
>mfw
>there aren't enough good ways to mitigate fall damage
the helmet has a chance to block fall damage and if you use the Abominator(I think it's called, it's been a while) just before hitting the ground it'll completely cancel any fall damage (see webm related)
and they both do kinda suck
especially with the grav switch it can get nauseating
the helmet is surprisingly consistent though
Immersive sims are a terrible genre, just make an arena/classic shooter like a normal person.
It helps sell the dehumanizing atmosphere in this case
god i hate the term immersive sim. i get that it's bullshit shorthand for "3d metroidvania" in that there are unlocks and backtracking to use the unlocks in other areas of the map, but the term means nothing. Arma sounds more like an immersive sim than system shock does.
Does that make Metroid Prime a Metroidvania or an Immersive Sim?
keypad sim
>i get that it's bullshit shorthand for "3d metroidvania"
that isn't what it means at all
Who the FUCK considers arena shooters "normal"?
Is this the "Undertale" of the Godot engine?
good game. i like to think it looks so shitty because it's the way our drug-addled, entirely unhinged protagonist actually sees the world.
This game playerbase consist of underage people who think they'll be popular on their favorite discord servers because they play "obscure" games they found on Ganker.
0/10
Play the fucking game first before projecting this hard you clown.
No, it has genuine appeal. It plays like a goofier Deus Ex and has a ton of things to discover and explore.
How do I force myself to care about money?
I hate the "no, you just don't get it man, it's just unique and different and it's actually a good game" counter-culture bullshit that surrounds this game and is in this thread. No, allow me to fucking assure you I get it. I played through way more of this than I really cared to, and when I looked up stuff about the rest I'm glad I didn't bother to finish it. I get the design, the the choices, the themes, the gameplay, the oh-so-witty references, everything. It's like that ATHF thing, "Oh I get it... it's not making me laugh, but I get it." Yes, it's a relatively well-made game with intentionally bad design, very original. It's also mediocre as all hell. To contrast, the organ trading game, while much less original, was at least more entertaining and interesting.
To summarize, just because you intentionally and carefully construct a shitpost of a game to the highest possible standards of such... doesn't change the fact that it's still a shitpost of a game
Pleb status: filtered
>liking a good game is counter-culture because it doesn't get popular appraisal
Genuinely braindead counter-contrarian
>intentionally bad design
>shitpost of a game
(You) don't even know what you're talking about, you just want attention
The part you don't get is that your entire perspective is based on the false premise that it's "supposed to be shit" or "intentionally bad" when that's not the case at all. People who like the game aren't forcing themselves to tolerate shittiness for the sake of glorifying what you have identified as its positive elements, they just like the game including the parts you think are shitty. It's fine for you to not like it, but you're more concerned with parading your perspective as some sort of objective truth in order to feel justified calling its fans counter-culture so you can dislike them, too.
Cruelty Squad isn't some fucking conspiracy to transform gaming into something you don't like, it's just a niche game that doesn't appeal to you anymore than it appeals to the majority. It obviously does appeal to some minority though, why can't you let them have that?
It's the mission of Ganker to shit on anything that's well-received. That's never gonna change

Did you guys hear the VR mod is out
The landlord is my favorite character
>You're late on your rent again. I called the cops so they're here to evict you I guess. The speed and precision they operate with is incredible
is that cruelty squad in vr? awesome. also why that bubble boy got such a big ass
Yeah. It's not my footage it's from this video
Unfortunately I don't own a VR headset
damn had i known i would a waiting a little longer before selling my vr headset. at least i could play morrowind in vr, that was neat
I wish there were more missions. I really liked going around and reading the npc dialogue. the lore is oddly fascinating even if it is sort of a shitpost
The idea of biocurrencies is so horrifying yet so plausible it genuinely makes my skin crawl
Why didn't they just make it look good though
The art-style adds to the atmosphere which in turn helps to sell the bleak, corrupt lore. The game would've been much worse had it been made to look more "appealing" - if that makes sense
It looks like how it should look
Because in-game canon is that the world actually looks like that, the end result of some sort of extreme endgame capitalist nightmare where humanity has effectively lost the ability to appreciate aesthetic beauty or design in any sense.
hilarious to me that the leftists think that communism won't result in the same thing, aesthetically speaking
Ideally we can strive for a world where we are neither a communist dictatorship and also not an ultra capitalist nightmare society
The basis for the state of the world is more about humans achieving functional immortality, and capitalism just happens to persist as a way to give some sort of meaning and context of value to a world which no longer has any. It's still fundamentally a critique of capitalism, but that's not the premise of the story.
It's even more horrifying than just a critique of capitalism. Basically the message of Cruelty Squad is that without mortality life becomes meaningless and humanity is destined to self-mutilate in increasingly twisted ways. Immortality is framed as something incredibly harmful to the collective human spirit. That's an incredibly dark, nuanced take which I've never really seen before in any other media
I think people latch onto the third ending a bit too much, there's way more stuff in there than the "people don't die = bad" aspect. It's there, don't get me wrong, but it's flavor. The main commentary is just about capitalism and the gig economy.
Also, cyberpunk 2077 made very similar commentary I think. Every instance of immortality in the game is displayed as a net negative. You either transform into something you're not, or it can be used as a tool of the powerful to maintain an indefinite control over society.

Treat it more like a stealth shooter than an arena shooter. Guards don't move when they're not alert, so headshots are pretty effective.
Because that would have taken effort/skill.
Instead build a style out of the game looking bad and you'll even manage to trick some people into thinking "breaking these rules requires you to know how to follow them to begin with" or some bullshit like that.
It's not even a question of "it needs to look like that for my schizo-vibe", there are already schizo games that took skill to make. Hell some even make Cruelty Squad look really tame by comparison.
ITs like people who make parody songs or something. They COULD make something good, but that would open them to criticism, so they make le ironic bad things. Cowardice. They don' thave the balls to really try.
Cruelty Squad's art assets self-evidently took effort and skill. Look at the way the lighting behaves, or how the models distort depending on how you look at them. Those are deliberate choices that I wouldn't know how to implement. Would you prefer it looked like a cookie-cutter Unreal game?
What schizo games would you recommend that you think look better? Genuinely curious.
>Hell some even make Cruelty Squad look really tame by comparison
Name at least 5 of these games if you're so sure of that/
kino level
Cruelty squad is still one of the funniest games I've played in a long time. I love this fucking game.
>Now you've done it you freak shit. You've fucked up. You're being tracked by the Grid. The eye in the sky is watching. We're coming for you. Prepare to die.
I think my favorite quote is still
>I've been getting really into 'hell'. Both as a mindset and as something to strive for, in an organizational sense.
>There's something intensely beautiful about it.
It's so perfect
>We finally have it, we're fully sovereign. Just a couple of shareholders grabbing hold of their destinies on the open seas. Beautiful.
Do you have a list of all the quotes from the game? One of my favorites is from idiot party where someone's saying "oh all you need to do is pay a few billion dollars to enter the club" or something like that
>The magnificent kinetic sculpture in the lobby was made by the world renowned artist Killforce Gutface. But you obviously knew that already
https://crueltysquad.fandom.com/wiki/Civilians
Love this guy.
Also, really like the MTF's cameo in Brigador.
>MT Foxtrot unnerves me. Man or machine, over a long enough timeline everything hits terminal fatigue: mental, or metal. This guy's hit both. A shot-out barrel, a double-fed cartridge stuck in the rifle of a dead conscript. Just look at his eyes - no time left on the clock.
>Sure, there's the offworld death squad work on the CV and that exotic tac rig he wears to back it up. He walks, he might talk, he obeys orders better than all of these cut-rate lotto ticket the SNC loves handing out so much, but I'm telling you: there's no driver at the wheel. Send him back to his original handler, the one even uglier than me. When this guy detonates, nobody is going to want to be around to witness it.
>For all the burnt fuses we are handing out cartridges and cash to, that says everything.
>-MB
He fits into Brigador's world better than I'd expect.
>I don’t mean to brag, but the alphabet soup agencies have been tracking me for years.
CS should catch on as a speed game, the stuff you can do in it is insane.
Yes, a showcase on ESAMarathon or something would be cool.
I can't aim for shit, the gameplay filters me, but I want to understand it. Any suggestions other than getting gud for me anons? I want to avoid watching a long play if possible.
>cruelty squad
>noita
>fear and hunger
>my summer car
what do they put in the water in finland?
Housemarquee, the lads behind Nex Machina and Returnal, too. Finnish games are pretty great.
finns tend to have DIY attitude and there's history with tech and computer science. this lead to being prominent pioneers of demoscene and such for example.
Shit graphics
Does it matter if I die a lot in this game?
I don't want to spoil the twist that comes with that and hopefully no one else in this thread does because it's pretty hilarious and fucked up
this game is hard lol and I dont want to keep starting over to try and keep a clean performance.
My biggest issue with this game right now is that you die so fucking fast.
relax, don't worry about it and just enjoy the ride.
it's just a game and you can do that perfect full game SSSSS run later when you've the pro moves down
Here's a tip: the sub-machine gun you start off with is beyond shit while everyone dies in a single headshot with the silenced pistol.
In other words use the silenced pistol to shoot heads and the game stops being hard.
Don't worry about it.
Nah, after this happens, dying affects nothing at all. There's ways to undo Power in Misery mode too, so it doesn't really matter either.
No. I was worried about this too, but the negative effects of dying can all be reversed and are not really even relevant until the endgame. Just enjoy the ride like the other guy said; you can't screw anything up permanently.
CEO, will I ever gain true business acumen?
Most of the items are dogshit, thus removing any fucks given about making money. Game is mid
>the perfect onahole doesn't exis-
PSA: Armor in Cruelty Squad has been broken for a while, there are no upsides to heavy armor and no downsides to speed implants.
A modder has put out a fix if you want to apply it.
