Starfield is like reading Pynchon or watching Tarkovsky. It's not designed to give you constant little dopamine hits like you're scrolling Tiktok or Instagram. Brainlets and ADHD zoomers need not apply.

Starfield > skyrim
skyfield mogs starrim
>Starfield is like reading Pynchon or watching Tarkovsky.
Stop comparing digital toy (video games) to art
THIS
they will never understand
THIS IS ART
If everything is art it has no value.
wtf I love volumetric fog now
>THIS IS ART
This is the sort of art that starts World Wars
>empty nothingness, THE GAME
Really not helping your arguments here, Rajeet.
it is literally built around constant dopamine hits thats what the perk system is all about you mongoloid
This, every piece of loot is a new dopamine hit. Every spacer dropping the next shotgun +1 and space suit +3 (epic rare **) is a dopamine hit.
Its literally extreme opposite of what gay op claims.
You're a homosexual. I actually am annoyed when I get new gear and need to think about changing my weapon or what's an upgrade.
>pay 100$ to watch paint dry in a wall
> You guys are idiots who don't understand Todd's magnum opus
Fuck off shill
kys midwit
imag8ne being such a soulless drone that you base your opinion off some retard in his basement getting paid by corporations because his fucking retard face and retard voice attract 12yo children browsing the internet on moms tablet. this corporate eceleb culture is pure fucking cancer
It all really just boils down to what you said, it's why there's such an adverse reaction to it on Ganker. It's a game which will stand the test of time and has incredibly rich mechanics and a great setting to explore, of course contrarians on here will cry about it. They even attempt to mask their room temperature IQ takes with pseudo-intellectual criticisms and buzzwords, some even directly quoting their favorite brain dead e-celebs word for word, how Ganker has fallen.

what the fuck...?
that's how stupid they think you are
$100 please
This 1 in 1,000 procgen error isn't the own you think it is. There's much more jarring and awful aspects of the game, like all the morons and the awful reddit dialogue. The actual planets and exploration are far from the worst part. They're really good most of the time
I thought the dialog was pretty good
I would uninstall immediately if this happened in my playthrough.
>It's a game which will stand the test of time
Yes, it's one of these games people decades later will pick apart trying to figure out how did a game releases in 2023 just completely ignore all the advancements and features present in games released before and just make people pay for a product with loading screens galore, outdated graphics, no true space travel, barely existent AI, barren empty purposeless "open worlds" and no vehicles.
> incredibly rich mechanics
Gimme a break. No bethesda game has “incredibly rich mechanics”.
Probably means the progressions systems, because yes, Bethesda has way better progression systems than like 90% of RPGs because Bethesda was the first to realize that survival crafting games do it better.
idk I feel like progression in Starfield is a massive downgrade - you can't actually boost with your boost pack unless you spend a skill point on it, you need to unlock the ability to see when you're sneaking/detected... Like on the one hand I'm glad they didn't go and make you look like a god straight out the gate like FO4 (early power armor + deathclaw fight) but it's also just more of a slog than it needs to be
Yeah, I think Starfield's opening retroactively justified a lot of Skyrim and FO4's design decisions despite boomer protests. For one, it's just too slow and plops you down into New Atlantis with zero context on how the game actually plays so players get stuck on lame city fetch quests that literally only exist to familiarize you with the layout. They're fine for that utility, but not when they also happen to be the majority of the quests players will encounter first. And secondly, it soft locks players into a specific build before they even know what build they want to play.
>and plops you down into New Atlantis
New Atlantis damages the game so much. The other areas and quests are so much better but the first major landmark in every playthrough is touching down in the ugly city with ugly buildings and ugly people and terrible performance with fetch quests. Which is a shame because I had more fun immediately once I left it or when I went into the well.
This is literally what new vegas gets right and bethesda refuses to understand.
You don't need as much buildup as New Vegas. Just a starter town and basic adventuring to contextualize the experience a little bit which all Bethesda games did up until Starfield. Shit even Morrowind started you out in Seyda Neen. If it had dumped you in Vivec City out the gate, it would have the exact same problem as Starfield.
>which all Bethesda games did up until Starfield.
Not really, it sort of did with skyrim, but fo3 and 4 fall into this trap even though the starter towns seem small, they bog you with stupid bullshit from the get go. New vegas has 1 emergent conflict in goodsprings and gives you a myriad of ways to resolve it (or ignore altogether)
the well is literally the same shit
that 'damage' isn't contained
I like it
>one second of contentment
>remember all the quests are fetch quests or end in a box where you loot something with minimal interaction
>rich mechanics
What the fuck are you on about. It’s some of the worst designed gameplay I’ve ever experienced. Everything is so janky and awkward
gaming moments men just won't understand
I honestly thought that was someone poorly emulating Digital Devil Saga the first time I saw it.
i'm not sure about the Pynchon or Tarkovsky comparisons, but i do feel like people don't 'get it.' i've played for something like 40 hours and enjoyed every minute, i find the group seethe sessions on here perplexing
It's not that hard to understand. Many anons are so deeply fucking miserable that the mere thought of anyone enjoying anything sends them spiraling into a frothing rage. They need the game to fail to make them feel better about being abject failures themselves.
Or maybe I'm not miserable and the game's just bad you dramatic gay.
You sound miserable. Odd, that.
None of that makes any sense, you pretentious, projecting pajeet
Ah yes, the knee-jerk, reflexive impulse to immediately go on the defensive instead of taking a moment to introspect. Classic.
I havent played starfield at all and I just straight up follow the hate bandwagon because why not. I just simply hate every new games that were shilled here including AC6 and Balds Gay 3.
The only discussion that I took part in was elder scrolls lore related thread, some soijaks thread if there's any because of site culture, and some other trolling/funny thread, also coom thread but it depends on the situation.
They probably comparing this shit to tarkovksy because of solaris similarity or something space idk.
Congratulations, you're literally part of what's killing this shitty board
And what your gonna do about it moron? Telling your supervisor that your shill tactic doesnt work because some based retard dont fall for your obvious shill? Lmao
Take your meds, retard
>I just simply hate every new games that were shilled here including AC6 and Balds Gay 3.
Whether they have played it for 100s of hours or not at all, virgins have to misdirect their frustrations somewhere lmao
These dudes need to get a life
I have NEVER seen someone actually source these discord screencaps. It's always done to create a boogeyman but when asked to link the server, it's always "noo i don't want them to know it was me, i don't want them to make a new server"
As if it's difficult to create these out of thin fucking air
whats wrong with brazilians
They're basically the pajeets of the western hemisphere
Asmon hated it /thread
why would you base your opinion on what some fag on the internet thinks?
>starfield too big brain
Supremekek
D0XT8
>post re*dit the game
>thinks he is smart
yep many such cases. you can go back now
The BIGGEST signs of massive coping for playing a game you know is shit but will defend because of brand loyalty is making it out to be something much greater than it actually is.
I'd have way more fun reading a book than playing Empty Wastelands Full Of Nothing Simulator
Also, please never compare a Bethesda product to anything intelectual or artistic ever again.
There is no magical game that isn't made for people with ADD/ADHD, maybe yours is less severe than others, but try reading a book if you want a quality narrative sometime you spastic.
I loved when Starfield said "It's starfielding time!" and starfielded everywhere.
Only braindead zoomers cant stand this level of boring, lifeless writing with no personality or anything compelling to see or hear.
This pic is never wrong for it resumes the tortanic morons in general
Said people also got filtered hard by System Shock Remake making them think and Quake 2 remastered ALSO making them think
I think this is why these newfags loves bing bing wahoo games and interactive movies larping as perspective camera CRPG so much
>leftist memes be like
it isn't le leftist meme either, is literally a guidebook to identify chud tourists from discord and reddit shitting this place for free clicks.
they are still anal over moronmoot killing /qa/
Anon is saying your bullshit is too long and no one is going to read it much like a leftist meme that is four paragraphs long.
>triggered by 4chan
anons on all boards are triggered by 4chan unless theyre 4chan crossboarders because they derail every thread they enter with their political obsessions. cope seethe and dilate
gays and tumbler/diskord/plebbit newcomers are butthurt about 4chan on every board because they imagine Ganker/nel to be their little new tumbler/neogaf safe space.
Get cancer uncultured intruder.
You will never be a genuine anon.
You will forever see genuine Gankerirgins are enemies and call the labels and cry about irrelevant other boards.
nta but
>muh board culture
Sad!
ive been posting here for 12 years gay the website has been 1000x worse since 4chan became popular, i bet you go in threads and reply tranime to posts whilst calling me an intruder
Ganker started in 2016 you couldn't have been here for 12 years
It was always like this no actually it was worse ive been here since 2008.
I dunno, I was around back then and only ever really browsed /b/, but all the racism and vitriol had a very clear tongue-in-cheek air about it - like it was in service of a meme or a running joke. Now it's just unironic racism and vitriol.
newfag
Your narrative won't last. We outnumber you. You've lost.
this is exactly what a edgy moron would post. lurk moar oldfag
Ganker is the most leftist board on Ganker
When I say "leftist" I mean trannies who complain about le chuds and reference cuck porn all day while maybe sometimes making a comment every once in a while about how "capitalism is why video games are bad" not like an actual leftist just people who think they should be one because of twitter memes
Ganker became neogaf after the purge and ign brazil refugee camp.
/pol/morons ARE newfags
It was necessary to create the board, but creating the board was the beginning of the end
but Pynchon and Tarkovsky aren't boring
>Starfield is like reading Pynchon
How dare you mention the abomination of writing known as Starfield and arguably the most genius writer of the 20th century Thomas Pynchon in the same sentence. I refuse to believe you have read a single Pynchon novel, because if you were intelligent enough to do so, you would not have made this post.
Starfield derangement syndrome affects 100% of people who do not play Starfield
Reading a Pynchon novel gives me a lot more dopamine than reading whatever retards post on shithole sites like TikTok or Instagram, or indeed than playing Starfield.
You've never read Pynchon
Incorrect. I've read Gravity's Rainbow, Inherent Vice, and Against the Day. Against the Day was probably the most fun but I also kind of lost track of what was happening at times because it was so goddamn sprawling
Check out The Crying of Lot 49 next, loved that one.
Will do thanks anon
>you are not a real Ganker!!!!
Holy shit this is the gayest thing I've read on here all day
>Gravity's Rainbow
No one in the history of the universe has ever actually read that piece of shit. You only buy it to put it on your shelf next to garbage like Ulysses and Blood Meridian so you look cultured.
I've read it. Twice.
Uhh maybe you're projecting, ever thought of that?
I proudly read trash, don't let me stop you from suffering through unreadable "literature" though. I'll be over here enjoying whatever Correia or Zahn pump out next.
wew, imagine admitting you're too smooth-brained to read an actual novel
Based
There was a time I tried to force myself to read all those classics, but eventually I realized nobody gives a shit and neither do I
The only reason boring trash like Jane Austen is so highly regarded is that it's old. Society always acts like art made in the past is inherently good. Well sorry but Jane Austen is just insufferably boring
Here's your smart white man's gameplay, bro.
frankly, what you are doing is insulting to the names you so carelessly drag into the mud.
>Starfield is like reading Pynchon or watching Tarkovsky.
Oh behalf of readers everywhere, I'm gonna groan and you're gonna pay $100 for Todd's slop
>it doesn’t need good user reviews
>it doesn’t need to to sell copies
>it doesn’t need good dialogue
>it doesn’t need good character models
>it doesn’t need interesting planets
and now the newest cope
>it doesn’t need to be fun
Thanks for bringing Ganker's retardation to Ganker.
I will make fun of Gankerfags on every board.
You have shit taste.
Pynchon is a hack and trash.
No one cares. If you like it, fuck off and go play it. If you don't like it, fuck off and go play something else. Everyone can shut the fuck up about it. You all act like a bunch of retard children.
OPs post gives me hack fraud vibes, like cuckjima saying strand-like game
Its more like reading pulp fiction ripoffs of Jules Verne and watching pulp fiction ripoffs of Stanly Cubrick.
But with lots of procerdural generated padding, even more samey places and doing the exact same shit 10 times that could have been condensed into 1 higher quality game.
Do you "get" something from visiting the temples after the first two? (apart from the new shout fus doh rah)
Do you apreciate clearing out the 13th same mining/science outpost filled with dead miner/scientist bodies and a bunch of spacers/pirates/varuun/dreugr?
Do you just love surveying that 33rd planet and going to generic cave number 51 to find that last mineral to scan?
Literraly more filler than Naruto. But Naruto filler gives you more info on the main and side characters and even tells stories of jinchriki and of the relevant unique things of the universe.
Pynchon is nothing BUT constant dopamine hits, I dont think youve read him 2bh.
No need to namedrop to sell your game though, Todd. Your fanbase dislikes reading anyway
>reading Pynchon or watching Tarkovsky
videogames board
>illiterate, inbred mutt doesn't understand analogy
shocking
anal-what? fuck off, homo
it has looter shooter mechanics and a loot hogging system with a pedigree going back twenty years
it absolutely does give you constant little dopamine hits
thats what its designed to do
I wanted Skyrim in space. Did I get that? No.
What I got was the Skyrim map cut into multiple disjointed pieces and tacked on bland systems that mean nothing.
The NPCs behave exactly the same way as Skyrim bros though. So there's that.
Terrible example. Pynchon's whole shtick is that he writes ornate descriptions and details. He paints these beautiful images but there is no connective tissue because he has no fucking clue how to write a story. In particular he has no idea how to write a true to life character because of his larger than life caricature description addiction.
So he displays exactly what you are complaining about. His prose entertains adhd readers because each sentence in isolation is enjoyable to consume. The gestalt of the work is hollow and pointless, but those readers do not have the attention span to develop that perception because they are kept constantly stimulated.
Looks like someone dnf gravity's rainbow
>Tarkovsky
So what you are saying is that Starfield is a dull piece of shit.
They'll never understand anon
It's a god damn video game. Post your fucking hand right now.
I understand you filipinx are upset the game doesn't run how you expected on your 1060, but rest assured, if you played the game you simply wouldn't get it
Concession accepted, Black. Now go back to the field.
The field of my slave outpost I built on an isolated alien planet I discovered during my space travels? I can't wait to return. But not all white men want to own space plantations my Black friend and it's racist of you to assume so, some just want to haul cargo or hunt down the bounties on thugs. That's the beauty of a game like this that the simple melinated mind wondering why the deceptive dopamine dripfeed they've become accustomed to is absent wouldn't understand
>concession accepted
>haha i crowned myself the winner in this internet duel, good show my fellow rebbiter
cool webm honestly
The 1060 can run the game at the same level as the Series S. Aka 30 FPS and less than 1080p. Which is completely unacceptable on PC, but consolefags est that shit up anyway.
Space Engine has been doing this better than starfield for a decade now
>ring doesn't cast shadows on planet
Lazy and half assed, could only be a bethesda product
how bethdrones imagine it:
what it really is:
My picture is better
holy shit is his ankle broken?
why pseuds always resort to name dropping tarkovsky...
It starting to fall into place for me after just under 30 hours and I'm starting to think it's the best game I played since Outer Wilds. The writing is miles ahead of anything BGS has done before, despite being pretty flawed still. Makes me hopeful for TES6.
I think it was designed with that exact intention, to get little dopamine hits from coloured loot like a lot of games do now. It sucks for that reason.
>Ganker hates looter shooters now
wah happen?
>looter shooters
you need to go back
talking to dead people and animals in BG3 is way more exciting than talking to your main companions in Starslop. It's so fooking boring
wish i could turn all companion dialogue off in sf, it's excruciating
Bg3 writing is Cape slops like any fantasy shite, don't delude yourself
it's better than starfield's but that isn't saying much at all
wow that must be why redditors like it so much, they are true intellectuals
>It's not designed to give you constant little dopamine hits like you're scrolling Tiktok or Instagram.
Then why does it give you XP popups in the middle of the screen every ten feet?
Why is the progression system not designed around gradually building up your character, but randomly finding EPIC RARE PURPLE LEGENDARY GUNS in a crate?
Why does almost every quest involve shooting people?
Why is it impossible to feel an ounce of solitude as even the most barren of planets will spawn ships of pirates for you to kill?
Why does the mining intro last 1/10th the length of the vault in Fallout 3?
Why are you given your own ship in the first fifteen minutes of the game instead of having to buy one or steal one like a real RPG?
Why do damage numbers and hitmarkers flood the screen whenever you fire a gun?
Why does it generate infinite quests for you to never run out of things to kill?
Why are you such a retard?
>Why does the mining intro last 1/10th the length of the vault in Fallout 3?
Is that supposed to be a bad thing? That intro is dog shit
>A whole hour setting up the world, themes, and my character? Where's the rooftop minigun Deathclaw fight? Mooooom get the Ritalin!
It's a barely interactive cutscene that showcases Bethesda's ineptitude with the license and drags on for way too long. Ruined the game.
>Environmental storytelling? Whats that?
>It's not designed to give you constant little dopamine hits
It's literally Fallout 4 in space. Fallout 4 was nothing but constant dopamine hits. Pure undistilled goyslop.
Starfield is the worst video game ever made, buggy to such a degree that Mystery of the Druids is a polished item by comparison, and no paid internet marketers or bethesda staff making threads on Ganker is going to change that.
Truly organic post
>doing ranger missions with Sam
>tells me all about how he used to be a ranger, has exchanges with the other rangers you encounter
>later, doing some random quest
>"Hey anon I need to talk to you..."
>ok
>"I don't know if I've ever told you, but I used to be a ranger..."
meant for
the worst is sarah exclaiming what a great job i did docking our ship to the station...when i pressed a single button to do so. it's like the game knows how asinine it is.
Starfield fags:
>it's not supposed to be a space sim thats why you cant fly your ship in atmosphere and it's loading screens between planets
also Starfield fags:
>of course the planets are barren it's realistic like space
At least be consistent like pic related
Shut the fuck up retard
NTA but he's right, it either is or isn't a space sim whenever it's convenient to deflect criticism
What criticism? That you don't like it? lol
I think it's fair to question the point of including 1000 planets when the vast majority of them are either completely empty or have the same recycled progen POIs. I've encountered the same exact crashed ship, positioned the same exact way, with the same little tent outside it, with the same loot, probably 6 or 7 times on different planets. And when you bring this up the most common response is
>well duh of course all the procedurally generated stuff is bad, just focus on the handcrafted quest locations
Which isn't really a defense at all IMO. A central focus of the marketing and hype for this game was having this whole galaxy to explore, and most of it isn't worthwhile. So you're basically just being told
>if you ignore all the bad parts, it's good, I swear!
I swear people fall for corpo speak all the fucking time and it's hilarious. Todd 'the liar' Howard, in interviews speaks corpo words that are technically true but not in the way you want. You CAN explore, it's just garbage repeated content. You CAN explore planets but it's relegated to scanning minerals and life and considers it surveyed when you finish that, 'explored'. We live in an age of constant bullshots and fake trailers/images that don't look like the final product or come even close and yet people REALLY THOUGHT that starfield was somehow gonna be something other than fallout 76 in space, including it's garbage crafting being locked behind perk ranks
Let's extend this train of correct thought into Elderscrolls (7)6 and Fallout (7)5
I think Todd's problem is that he really let the fame go to his head. You can tell he just fucking LOVES being out on stage, soaking up the applause and adoration of his fans. He wants to be the pop idol of vidya, and the rush he gets from all the clapping seals is so addictive he has to keep pushing the limits of truth to hit the same high. I just hope one day he gets the help he so desperately needs.
His condition is hopeless.
god I always forget he's such a manlet, no wonder he wants to project such a larger-than-life image of himself
Embarassing
I can understand. Who doesn't?
>repeated content is repetitive
Stop the presses, did you have a conniption fit at all the similar bases is freelancer too? It would be nonsensical if planets worked the way you're thinking
Huh? What's nonsensical about being disappointed by """content""" getting recycled identically to the minute details—without even the slightest variation—ad infinitum? I can almost excuse things like seeing the same Earth-like pine trees and other vegetation popping up on planets thousands of light years away but taken together, it still totally pulls you out of any sense of immersion you might have. It makes the galaxy feel incredibly *small* and artificial
>its supposed to be a space sim
this dude just makes up arguments to argue about. Also, space sims suck. Elite sucks, star citizen sucks.
>misquotes to make his point
newfag AND a retard
almost every defense of criticism as to the missing space elements devolves into retards saying it's just an RPG set in space, until you point put how bare bones exploration is, then they say that space is really like that
Here's what I noticed
>class system reintroduced
>class affects dialogue for a certain number of NPCs (at least gangster has a lot)
>the leveling system isn't quite as braindead as fallout 4 but still very dumb, much rather just have tes style attributes/skills and perks to supplement them
>no voiced protagonist thank God
>proper dialogue choices and not X.) Sarcastic
>gunplay is much improved, far from world changing though
>the random generation and quest structure is very reminiscent of daggerfall
>the main quest is interesting and fakes you out, making you think it's a chosen one story when you're just one pilgrim among many making the journey to unity
>God is real, humans are made in gods image, there are no other intelligent races other than humans
I think Bethesda at least listened to criticism with this one, so there's that. Overall though I wouldn't recommend playing it because the performance isn't great and it relies heavily on random generation, if you don't like that you'll hate the game. I enjoyed it but it still leaves a lot to be desired. I really wish the dungeons were bigger, they're still bigger than Skyrim or fallout 4 but I miss getting completely lost in daggerfall labyrinths. Just pirate it if you want to check it out, shit has no copy protection. You morons are so quick to freak out over nothing.
>it's not bugs and glitches
>it's just anomalies in the zone
MAKES SENSE
>Posts the same fucking pic on empty planet 4/5
kys already Raj
It's alright but I wish there was more building variety for mines and outposts, you start noticing the repeating stuff very quickly.
I wonder if mods are gonna be able to overhaul random generation.
As in, are we gonna see something like "GIGAbro'S 100 NEW UNIQUE SPACE OUTPOSTS MEGA MOD" in a year or two?
If so this game's level of kino is only just beginning.
The game is just boring as fuck mate. Just Fallout 3 in space. No interesting or deep gameplay systems to interact with. This game would have been impressive in 2009.
But Pynchon is very entertaining wtf you're talking about you have never read him
Just play elite dangerous
what traits break the game?
>that picture
Yeah, shill, I hear that sound of random landing ship on the planet without an atmosphere. Tarkovsky may ass.
really though whats the most used skill in this? lockpickin as usual?
Deep, just like the universe in Starfield.
>Starfield is like reading Pynchon or watching Tarkovsky
I'm an elevator person now.
lazy game with no soul
>Starfield is like reading Pynchon or watching Tarkovsky.
please do not compare this brainless game to actual intellectual activity. Starfield is the unseasoned chicken of videogames. there's no taste, no soul, only fills you up with no joy
>Starfield is the unseasoned chicken of videogames
>seasoning your food is only for basketball-americans
>liking seasoned food means your a basketball-american
damn right moron
Sounds like Fortnite is more your speed, anon. Or perhaps some bing bing wahoo? It's ok there's a reason IQ is normally-distributed and there's no shame in falling right in the center of the curve
lol enjoy your chud filled space epic. here i am shooting hordes of demons in doom eternal.
So you're saying it hits that sweet spot between pleasing normies and pleasing space sim autists, thereby pleasing no one?
ZAMN
DAGGERFIELD looks like ZAT?!
lol the water just ends because the terrain generation can't handle making rivers or lakes
>this terrible bait worked
The absolute state of Ganker
>Pynchon
I simply couldn't get into his books. Is there a recommended list, like what to start with and so on?
Inherent Vice is probably the most normie-friendly but it's still a fun ride, would probably recommend starting with and then maybe do the Crying of Lot 49 that before digging into something like Gravity's Rainbow or Against the Day
Crying of Lot 49 is short and approachable. It should give you an idea on whether you can get into his books or not. If you can, I'd personally continue with V, his debut.
Just be a man and go straight for Gravity's Rainbow
ure telling me nobody noticed these massive temples with floating rocks all around them
You know what ? That's unironically true.
Pretty sure only zoomers are shitting on the game. that's why they can only compare it with modern shit like NMS.
>you have to be a pretentious, low-iq BPD 20-25 year old to enjoy this goyslop dumpster fire
the writing in starfield is worse than anything I've seen come out of the defeated wasteland that is the modern western game development yet
go read more ayn rand you poverty gay
If you just wanna look at space vistas there are better games
Why does this game look so shit while needing all those stupidly excessive requirements
Shit game still being shilled.
I like to look at fantastical space with beautiful space clouds and asteroids everywhere. That's why im a Freelancer guy.
IS THAT... A HECKIN BARREN WASTELAND WITH RANDOMLY PLACED ROCKS?? OMG GOTY
