lmao accurate. I tried installing Oblivion recently and getting some mods to try to fix the abysmal draw distance, but they did nothing and I ended up shelving the game after an hour. It's a shame because I spent well over 300 hours playing it back in 2009 to the point where it inspired me to program a farming mod for HL2. Now I can barely play it without getting bored. Maybe it's just one of those games that for some, really only hits right the first time around.

if you like Skyrim then yead I'd try it. It's got a very charming and light-hearted atmosphere compared to the dark and serious tone of Skyrim. People criticise the mechanics a lot, but if you just play for the quests and stories then you should still like it.

It's my favorite elder scrolls by a long shot. It really hits the sweet spot between the truly sandbox nature of Morrowind and the userfriendliness of Skyrim, without being as complicated and offputting to casuals as the former and not as dumbed down as the latter.
But the big deal is the voice acting, which makes the game feel so much more alive.

Game is great, but I don't know how well it's aged.

You should. Despite its shortcomings dated engine, nerfed mechanics, probably the least fantastical in the series it still has its own charm and the modding scene is is well developed if that's your thing.

you reckon there may be a way to lower the graphics until it looks really bad? for nostalgia?
i still have that old desktop but it's broke ed ed

I jump my way over to the bridge to the imperial city, do the quest that requires me to kill slaughterfish in exchange for a ring that lets me breath underwater, go into the city, steal some shit, start heading towards anvil, do a few dungeons on the way, start the fighter's guild questline in anvil, then go get the glass helmet off the coastline that lets you breath underwater and gives you nightvision, then frick around until I get bored and put the game down again.

I actually did buy that when it was on sale and within a few hours I accidentally found Dawnfang/Duskfang which was the only weapon I used for the rest of the game since it had infinite charge and good base damage. Pretty much every Creation Club thing included in that release was fricking op.

Oblivion was pretty mediocre about dungeons. Aylied ruins and oblivion gates aren't bad in themselves, in fact I think they're pretty good when you start out (these are the parts I really like about the game), but they get pretty familiar soon enough, and they even reuse oblivion gates eventually.
This leaves forts, mines, and caves, and these are rarely worthwhile, there's seldom anything interesting to fight there, and rarely even half decent loot, usually caves are a complete waste of time with basically no loot and only weak trash mob enemies, and looting a mine you make so incredibly little money from what little ores and gems you can find (themselves barely worth anything), that they aren't worth considering.

There's a lot I dislike about Skyrim, but it makes a better effort for dungeons, you can count on finding at least something mildly useful or interesting in a random cave, even if it's maybe 100-200 gold at most in value and a potion or something, and you might stumble into something like a troll or a group of vampires even at low levels. Skyrim also makes ores and mining have an actual point, not just through the crafting system (where you've got continuous use for more ore), but with nicer ores actually being worth at least some money.
There are 8 veins of gold ore in all of Oblivion, they don't respawn, and they only give you a single gold nugget. What is that gold nugget worth? Fricking 25 gold coins, meaning that if you're thorough in searching for gold ore to plunder, you can come away with the fabulous earnings of 200 gold! WOW! THAT'S GOOD FOR REPAIRING MAYBE A LITTLE BIT OF (not-enchanted) EQUIPMENT! You can make like 1300 for scavenging all the raw silver, which is comparatively better, but it's still very poor value for your time, unfortunately consistent with how silverware is equally undervalued, so there's no point in robbing people's homes either.
They may as well not have had mines in the game.
