I'm still annoyed the Xbox version got a 60fps update while PS4 Pro was abandoned

        Anonymous

Ps4pro has the same tflops gpu as series s. Instead more pixels. Everyone that works for or praises journalist scum like "digitak foundry" should be shot for holding back the human race and denying kids a childhood.
It is ALWAYS better to have interlacing or halve the res than to have 30fps.
More pixela only expose deficiancies and cause more of them. Total waste of performance.

          Anonymous

Yeah those chose checkerboarded 4k for the PS4 Pro instead of better motion which was just an impossible to understand decision. I think when Eidos Montreal got moved over to mass produce terrible Marvel games, they probably lost anyone that was interested in maintaining the DX games long after release

      Anonymous

Yeah. At least on PC, with deferred rendering enabled in regedit (looks MUCH better and renders faster). And at 180fps to get rid of stutter and lag. And with toggle sights fixed with workarounds.

Seemed a bigger game. MD has some great looking parts though, but they stick out.

        Anonymous

        >deferred rendering enabled in regedit
What do you mean by this? First I'm hearing of it

          Anonymous

I can't remember how I came to know of it, I think by looking for tweaks, it uses the same engine as a tomb raider game, maybe tweaks were reported somewhere for that. Could have been trying to switch from toggle to hold for sights. There are several settigs in regedit for it. It might nit just be deferred rendering by itself, maybe higher colour depth, I tried and tested some settings and it looked and performed far better. I guess deferred rendering wasn't enabked by default because some cards couldn't do it, I have no idea why not. I may have used a fxaa injector with it too, the injector has higher quality fxaa, as well as some other sstuff you can fiddle with to change visuals to suit your tastes. Rendering is interesting, hard to decypher even when explained, maybe deferred rendering culls lights you can't see so areas that aren't lighted are darker instead of having lights go through objects. The explanation of it is lights are added last. Transparency is a problem with it but is solvable by doing it seperately or using a checkerboard and letting taa clean it up. It's a bit complex how a 3d scene is rendered. There are a few stages and the map applied to objects dictates how light affects it. 3d space is indicated by 3 colours usually letting left right and top, called a normal map maybe. The texture is called albedo I think, the colours, specular is a greyscale/black and white, and makes stuff lighter maybe darker, usually by too much. Maps are applied to a depth buffer and lighted but with forward rendering everything is lighted, more is computed, geometry has to be rendered more. I'm bad at explaining things and I don't understand it fully either. I'd do it much differently from scratch. Eg all lighting and colouring would be post processing. Everything a greyscale untill then with shades of grey indicating colours to radiate from it at too a high bit depth for intensity and gradient. Not colourful anyway. Apart from what needs to be.

      Anonymous

They're both great. Mankind Divided is just more of a pleb filter due to its pacing.

        Anonymous

It's also a pleb filter due to its meta storytelling. A zoomer-style player who follows the Skyrim-arrow from start to finish gets fed an "official narrative" by the game's main story. But a genuinely conspiratorial player who does all the side content, reads between the lines and trusts no one ends up getting the true plot that's hidden behind the main plot.
It's amusing when people think that the augmented human rights issue in the game is somehow allegorical to real-life issues that some minorities face, when in actuality it's more allegorical to the systematic enticement of their protests so that they would transform into riots and cultivate extramism so that you can hide a class war underneath a race war.

They already did that a million times better in HR when you find the sniper rifle on the roof of the gas station. MD is both padded out and too short.

      Anonymous

HR had a complete story, a better supporting cast, more variety in locations, and unique Renaissance style aesthetics.
MD has better gameplay, the best hub and side content in the series, and a more complex and ambitious story that is mostly told through small details.

Maybe MS will buy it and make it Call of Duty. The only thing wrong with that is it'd be woke.

Deus Ex should be like FF. Each game has nothing to do with the last besides being about conspiracies, stopping them, multiple ways of doing things and talking to everyone.

Would be cool to wound everyone and talk to them.
Eg have a time slowdown aug that activates when you go into sights, doubleclick and hold. Recharging your augs faster the more danger your in etc.

Really need to think about the gameplay. Sneaking is ok, but shouln't be all there is. Down one enemy and you get the rest decend in you kind of thing. Talk to someone and they report you.

Advanced Warfare looked great in the first level. Should have graphics like that. With real guns, eotechs and aimpoints. Carry attatchments rather than guns. Inventory being what can survive scans.

    Aug choices:
    Silent footsteps or silent shots.
Jump high and move fast, or carry heavy objects eg armour plates, mounted guns, human sheilds, move cars etc
Fast reload and fast to sights, or very steady aim and lethal unarmed melee.
Regenerating health always active and or auto dodge all attacks
Breathe underwater and Immune to gass attacks or can slow down time
Invisability or magnetised grip/arms/skin (gather ammo and weapons etc by being next to them and/or over them. Rather than pat downs/searches.
See through walls and smoke, or see electical stuff like conduits, cameras, bots, missiles, traps.
Wall breaching charges doubling as antipersonel grenades if thrown or double jump (survive lethal landings) and boost strafe.
Pass on health to others with touch or freeze electronic devices within expanding radius when remaining still.
Drone that marks all visable enemies on the direction you look or provides a changing line which is least detectable/most survivable.
Can understand and speak any language and can hack into any terminal or receive regular hud updates on everything including information about currevents, background

How does a Deus Ex story work these days when "trust the TV, they have your best interest at heart" is the highest tenet of the urban tech worker religion of anyone that would work on a AAA game

      Anonymous

because despite what you might think, the average person is the rat being electrocuted by forced beyond its ken. the average person that owns a TV is not privy to all the conspiratorial machinations of corporations that we type about on our computers in place of spending hours watching "My 19 Year Old Wolf Boyfriend Diet Island".

you can still have a Deus Ex story set literally today, Sep 2023, wherein a new technology is announced that has some fucky shit going on that nobody really cares about until JC or Denton is sent to a meeting and gets shot up by synths, unravelling into a normal Deus Ex plot

Nevermind the original Deus Ex and all the shit in that, the Picus emails in the Montreal level or the corporate-engineered (cyber) disease with a corporate-engineered (cyber) vaccine that's actually a mind control button plot would get HR cancelled in a heartbeat. In fact if they ever remake HR expect those elements to be heavily neutered.

Michael McCann is a brilliant composer
One of his signature sounds is a bell i noticed he uses frequently in his work, listen to "unatco theme - human revolution ost" is hits at the start of the track once you notice it you'll hear it in his other work.
Also he uses eastern vocals and instruments and he seamlessly implement them in his tracks
I listen to his work regularly.

To be fair you aren't gonna pick up Human Revolution or its sequel for any other reason either since the gameplay fucking sucks, the stealth takedowns alone were and still are the worst thing they added to the games.

As opposed to generic 90's daytime television shit.

moron all your modern games sound exactly the same, all that changes is the general theme but since the audience doesn't care and especially won't notice they can just copy and paste tracks, its all undistinguishable audio filler

Blade Runner (not 2049) has one of my favourite soundtracks, and not only do I know every song from it, but my favourite song is from the soundtrack. If you listened to it, you’d also realise it’s closer to the original Deus Ex ost than the newer games.

Blade Runner's OST is mixed with other genres and even the most ambient tracks stand out, not a good example

Uh this is a video game, and the purpose of the music should be to serve the game.

Anyway, HR music will always be more memorable than whatever is in the original based on HR's trailer alone.

No the purpose of music in all media is to be good and memorable first and foremost, not to be used as aural background for voice acting and sound effects, its exactly people like you that made videogames boring because all you wanted is to copy movies, not even the good ones

nostalgia combined with actual dev incompetence. its the trite meme of "they used to be able to do whatever they want with games" but actually true considering how niche the genre was in the first place.

i have the Mankind Divided artbook and whilst the passion in the developers is evident its quite fucking obvious they cried themselves to sleep over having to fit their product around corporate "but will it sell" rhetoric. and of course it didnt. because people dont want to engage in systems they want to shoot 400 dudes or see gay elf tits in a 3D VN so the immersive sim or stealth genre as a mix of the 2 is dead in the water on conception.

TL;DR- old sharks can smell the corporate bullshit in the water and the people on the beach can see it because its so bright

Stealth in the present or future is a silly concept now. Cameras are everywhere. Everyone has a phone. Everyone will report you for being out of the norm and cops will investigate.

Games should be a rush to get in and get away. Taking for granted they are on a short timer.

Gameplay including preparing for the operation so no time is wasted and you are prepared for anything.

The notion you can knock out everyone in the way or use air vents to sneak everywhere is ridiculous.

Games should be inspiring or training. The only way to stay hidden now is not stand out.

    Good Deus Ex gameplay:

Fly in vtol aircraft built for extreme speed. Emerging from the ocean off a submarine.

Land. Assault your way into somewhere housing targets. Get out the objective. And flu away sk fast and at so low res you can't see, relying on memory and intuition, feeling. Low so out of radar. Guesswork based on speed shown on basic wireframe that isn't reliable and doesn't include stuff put in the air to stop you, or just there.

When relatively safe. Exit. Letting the craft continue on autopilot. Skip an on land trek through nowhere over weeks to another pickup.

Prepare for the next. Go over what was gained and if it changes anything. Prepared too for no help and starting from scratch.

I'd say stopping psychology/torture/experimentation is priority 1 but there are a lot of lroblems in the world. Could stop wars with the people in authority calling it off. Or stopping it before it starts wiping out a govt before it's country suffers being a sheild for them. Do your part in a lot of simmilar actions.

Corruption is a given in anything though. Especially organisation. Whoever doesn't do it the hardest keeps sure they don't at any cost. Moves in the other direction. Anyine with something to sell is at risk of selling it. Fearful an enemy itself.

Religion, immigration, exploitation there's people who make it happen.
    Theres people that gather information.
Always a lot against freedom. Being free regardless even empowers what takes credit for it, attack saying naivity is generated by it. Nonsense. The guy who was killed starting ww1 said a hunter is the wilderness's best friend. Something stupid like that.
Killing pure evil doesn't nescessarily improve the world. Focusing on people in extreme peril or at risk of giving up. People that need walls busted open and straps to beds cut, a way out of hell, can be what it's all about until that's too easy and theres enough people trained to do it or do it better. Or you get old so are only good for a good ending.

it actually wasnt, its parts were good but they put together poorly. going into the sewers to find the mob hideout and bargaining with dude or straight up killing him and getting a unique revolver is top tier Deus Ex. the problem is the connecting parts like the literal subway system leading into 1/8th of a street and a setpiece location

Some headwork in how to help indians might make a difference. What's holdin them back from working hard and building a better world. What is a better world. Need to explain/exemplify that befire it's forgotten. Maybe the tellitubbies, netflix and minecraft wiped it out of a generation.

Wslk around an uncinpromising capture of where it's worst and or typical in india, chose who you help. Start with the worst off. Or anywhere and see the logical effect of that. Not empowered much by default. Find work, make work. Teach what you know. Needs a lot of thought. Not just an easy solution of find who is fat and blow their brains out. Break up fights, stop rapes/prostitution. Petty help that wont go far. Media probably to blame the most for killing drive. Like rewarding people for acting like idiots. And celebrating. Praising fucking cops whose only act is confining people to jail, collecting tax and murdering people.
Paid pest. No different than the scum at the top thriving off parasitism. Artists should be in charge of development if anyone. Politicians are the last people fit to make decisions. Nothing but compromise as if allowing the worst was a hard battle. It's all they ever do. They love being loved for it. By the enemy first them by the rest after propoganda praises it. Even the joy of others being powerless.
It's not a role any good person would act.

Hard work. Do it. Be capeble through it. Support yourself. Support a higher standard. Help others to it. No false hope. A gun isn't everything. But there is a total lack of using them to free people. No chance unarmed. Enough people on side could do more, but taking people from their own life and using them as a mob doesn't seem right. They'd do anything that made them feel in the right. Including what is aleready done that needa to be stopped.
Everyone may have their own mission. Or they just don't need to know of the worst lest adjust, approve, accept and support it.
              Advertising empowers. Up to you.

              Futuristic India:
The poor have their limbs moved by ao, or hinted by, they do the rest. HUD sunglasses/eyes tell them where to go and what to do.
Slave equipment. Thinking done for them. Easier to maintain than bots and already exist, need to do something with.
Kept poor to be kept enslaved. Extreme costs of anything. Mostly living space. Can't make much so decorate what they have. No choice to live otherwise because everyone chipped and tracked, allowed in animals first, fair enough to be applied to people afterward.
New generations engineered or adjusted. Better than existing generations. In charge of them. Competing with Ai. And beside.
Breeding encouraged as more slaves. And more exporting Indians, taking over the rest of the world as much as they can. Pride thing. Not any benefit to anywhere. Working as a literal hive mind against others less inclined to accept integration into systems especially foreign ones. Individuals are institutionalised and forced into integration kept from killing themselves. People kill themselves early, opposing the masses impossible.
Servers decentralised so nowhere to nuke even if anyone had the uranium.
Populace blight so intense you'd have to wipe out the world to stop them.
Viruses kill off other races. Indians being immune, synthesised and out of disgusting conditions and pollution. Unsanitary being a vast understatement.
Brains manipulated to be content. Either directly or through drugged food and water, brainwashing media. Who's in control? Who benefits. And they all do. At least to them. Culture pervades the rest of the world. Anything good bought out and used to sell bad. Not for sale then impoverished, demonised, made illegal. "Law" has never been right. Always was about making people sheep. The more unjust the less people expect of it. No call to change lesser evils. Or raher Large ones accepted. Little ones the baa opposition made by the mob, not for change but to assert they are in the right. News items.

A good game needs good graphics. The best so far have been Killzone 2.
It's engine needs to be paid for/contracted to receive part of the profits.

Then add megatextures. Keep cop and SMG design from MD. Come up with as good designs. Models can be 2D. SSDs and RAM are enough to house them from all angles for a 720p> render res. Close can have gaussian blur applied otherwise or render res lowered. 3D when they navigate unusual terrain, maybe, when there isn't an animation for itand ine can't be prepared fast enough. Models cost a lot but human interactions, and precise ragdolls add immertion. Heads/faces also need to be never repedative. Hair could be 2D, usually costing as much as the rest of a model. Clothing too. Generate 2D on console to save download/disc space. Large install. Choose a render res. Larger install for higher res.

Killzone 2 engine can make even an empty box room look good.
Quincunx is great but limits geometry. Post process AA needs to be tuned to fake it exactly. Killzone 3 was bad possibly due to missing it. Missing the texture blur, edge blur, colours looking bloomed, but that may have been similarly removed post pricessing due to lag complaints.
Megatextures can make areas worth looking at everything. At least used for non combat sections. Maybe even have that as a contrast. Combat/evil areas being barren, sterile, devoid of detail, repedative. Or when geometry suffices and areas are dark. Not that megatextured areas shouldn't have aot kf geometry, but repedative architecture doesn't need to show differences in exactly the same stuff. Scale more important than substance. And where it can't be seen up close. Otherwise tesselated heightmaps/paralax.

Don't seem to need PBR. Or path traced lighting. At least not constant. Do once. Apply to textures. Reflections aren't that important and don't need to be everywhere. Res shouldn't allow for that scrutinisation anyway.

TLDR: The stylised visuals of Killzone 2 are unmatched. Start a game with them.

It's a real shame, it looks amazing and some of the levels are incredible. but Prauge as a hub is not fun to traverse and once you explore it in your first visit, nothing changes (except the Red Light District) so there's nothing new or interesting to explore.Plot and pacing are whatever, the supporting cast was very weak, I wanted to strangle Chikane and Vega after I met them the first time and captain "Gay Husband" is a nothingburger. Fuck the Metro, I sure fucking love having to wait 5 minutes of loading time and then get screamed at by a disgruntled cop because I entered the "whites only" carriage.

I still think the Utulek complex is the best level in the series, just a joy for the eyes and was so theatrically beautiful, especially when you have to climb to the top.

I'll have to replay MD one of these days

  67. 2 weeks ago
    Anonymous

Better in action. Maybe also better on original hardware. Nvidia may not let quincunx be used for streaming services. Something isn't the same with newer videos of it.

Lag and low framerate is passable. But not during aiming. Aiming needs to be very high framerate, unless wiimote metroid prime 3 controls are in play, but even then need 60fps.
Need more for mouselook/controller. Should be enough of a difference to make out of sights undesirable.
Low res with blur radiating increasingly from centre while in sights may be enough, lower colour depth, anything for a frame rate several times higher than usual. Around 180fps. Shouldn't just be a scope view though. Stare down an eotech taking up the screen like Killzone 2.

Killzone 2's Multiplayer's draw was mainly using spawn point grenades to move the rest if the team out if a base that was being assaulted, to assault enemys base, to get players near objectives etc. 3 did away with them and so make it's multiplayer worthless. Easy to contain an enemy inside their base and once doing so the rest if the match a waste of time.
Shooting was laggy. Not much of a draw at all. Regular exchanges ended in both dying at the same time unless one had the drop on the other or wss sniping from a distance, or helped by other players.
Aiming needs to be fast for it to be a main feature. An actual gameplay element eg targeting parts.
Maybe even have 2 engines running. A simple one for aiming.

Reacting quickly and lethaly can be expected of real enemies. Trained to shoot at any opportunity. With a weakness being they tend to only move in and attack when they are assured success. So can be pinned fown by taking losses and facing any threat at all. Cowards by training and by choice.
You can take chances. React to the situation. Push your luck. Especially since it's a game. You're meant to try. And struggle. Not the safe side. No backup. Not a seige.

Tools to aid combat could turn the tide.

So shouldn't be encouraged. It would just further dispower individuals.

A world where you can't win may be about little victories. Things preserved. Like the shop winston buys a snowglobe from.

A world in the mind. That was. And while relics exist still is. Somewhere. Hidden like yourself. Your inner self. Which gets revealed to yourself as you build inside your head.

Love happens. No explation on why you love someone. Just do. Similar heart maybe. Doesn't matter. When it can be explained it's over. Will always exist imo.

Continuing that is the best objective and can't be translated into a game.

But thinking people can be helped by luck, destiny or god isn't entirely true. Nothing accnowledges the worst thats all. Out of sight out if mind. You don't go to an abbatoir to buy your groceries.

Small solace from a failed world highlights it. It's precious. As doomed as you are. Company.

Blade Runner the game did it well in your apartment. But maybe not, that wasn't it. Just ankther good feeling or human feeling. The best abbandoned for something else/better. As good as it could be not being enough, but it is to the viewer, maybe the character. Worth a wage doing the wrong thing even.

Choosing what matters may make you the bad guy. May be a reasonable excuse outside of the victims perspective.

Lucky to have anything at all.

Overwhelmed by something for you a reward for perceiving it. Choice and taste fitting you. You a part of something.

Could be directed by hope, hints. What stands out as not a part of the rest. Find someone it continues in them. Enjoy making small changes to the world like opening doors to more.

What else is on the chopping block. Abbandoned places moments or months from being torn down. Anywhere something isn't seen. Magic only existing where it can.

Exp system could be fixed with a timer. The faster you're in and out the better your rewards. But timer starts the moment you're seen or enemies sound an alarm. So look around first. Find out about more sneaky ways in.

              Sneaky augs:
Decompose dead bodies near you or mimic their vitals reporting to their sensors that they are alive/at ease.
Mimic someone's voice after hearing them and gather the means if their communication so able to report back, call others to do do things, question others/superiors etc or expell a few different liquids that when mixed erode through steel and plastic. Yes. I don't go outside and the only people who live in my apartment building are retired people and university students. I still hate the exp system in these games. Why would you make a game all about playing your way and finding creative solutions only to then blatantly and artificially favor one specific playstyle?

      Anonymous

That problem only exists in Human Revolution. Mankind Divided fixed it. You used to get extra points for stealth, and semi-violent stealth specifically. In MD there's a balanced XP distribution between different actions. For example you can't do power leveling by hacking every door you would have the code for. You get the same XP for actually finding the code and using it.

No major differences other than complete dialogue recast for JC. There are a few minor side characters added for immersion purposes and honestly the dialogue is matched with everything else in the game.

The biggest difference I can think of is when you go to the Hong Kong club some guy buys you a ticket to get inside, and there's a few unique dialogue lines if you accompany him at the bar and talk to the bartender.

Deus Ex 4 should have kept with the tradition and start with a new character. But they could have kept Jensen as a major character and make a mystery if he is a clone, hologram, or someone else in an artificial body.

In the original Deus Ex the USA had to declined so much thats it's basically Haiti-tier. The new games added a golden age that never made sense within a realistic time frame.

Haiti? What the fuck are you talking about? Haven't seen any mecha robots or secret robo agents walking in Haiti. Also the cameras and Manhattan skyline looks nice. You see that in Haiti? Where? The fuck you smoke, bitch. Even subway works. Nuclear submarine facility exists. Where is that in Haiti, bitch? Nowhere. So shut up, bitch.

What I liked about Deus Ex was there were no flying cars. And most of the cars you saw were burned out husks, if anyone could afford a car. Only difference is not much crime or violence because everyone is too busy dying of plague. Contrast this with Perfect Dark betting on flyingcars in 2050

Deus Ex 1 has a film-noir vibe, if you would try to pull that off in 2010s, you will die of boredom. Not my fucking problem they couldn't figure out how to do film-noire without flying cars. Doesn't mean you can just copy pasta DX1 and pretend it would work again.

I would have believed it and it would have fit the Icarus narrative, but Eidos wanted a franchise not a perfect tie-in prequel.

idk man, I have a decent computer and it crashed on me like 10 times, had to tweak the settings a lot to stop the crashes.

it's a gorgeous game when everything is running well though

I bought all the games but it can't be helped. Not even sure if Embracer will keep Eidos Montreal so the future of the series is up in the air.

Does anyone else hate Jensen's voice actor? I used to like it, but now I can't stand him. Fucking annoying.

I think him and Keanu give really dry performances, but I both love Jensen and Johnny. I think their voice archetype/profiles just work really well for their depictions of those characters.

I thought Keanu was fine as well, his character model looked weird as shit when he had the sunglasses off though.

I was one of the people who were really upset when they announced Keanu was playing Johnny, because I just couldn't imagine Keanu playing the 2020 Johnny Silverhand.
After seeing 2077's version of him though, I think Keanu was an alright fit. I'm not sure if they changed Johnny to fit Keanu, or if they conceptualized Johnny a little differently and hired Keanu for it but either way, I now really appreciate his version of the character.
I've heard Elias in other games and I cannot hear anyone but Jensen. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but Jensen and his voice are iconic for me now.

Square lets it die, sold the company behind it to Embracer and now there's a probability that the story arc game of Jensen wont see the day of light to be finished.
