Notate it for us then if you’re so sure, it’s clearly not the same bassline.

You're an idiot. It is the same bassline with minor variations to fit the newer song. It is intentionally derived from the FF4 battle theme. It is the same bassline. Don't be a coy fricking moron autist.

                >minor variations
Notate them then, they aren’t “minor” or even “little” variations. It’s not the same bassline. If you can’t even notate what you’re hearing why should anybody believe you? What basis do (You) even have for believing it yourself, if you’re so incapable of musical thinking?

Are you being a moron on purpose or are you genuinely this fricking stupid? By your logic, any cover of a song isn't actually a cover because it isn't note for note a notation match for the original. People play different speeds and add in variation notes, but it doesn't change what the source of the music is.

That is the FF4 bassline. It is meant to be a callback to it. It's not even the only Final Fantasy callback in that very same song. You are being deliberately obtuse and stupid.

In fact the responses I've gotten in this thread are already dumb enough for me to want to do something else rather than type to you dumb fricks.

                >rest of the post
Your head canon isn’t reality no matter how desperately you want it to be. Now either demonstrate that it’s the “same bassline” in a meaningful way or quit being such a moron.

Honestly it's hard to say whether it's the same bassline or just Uematsu being consistent.

And bass has such a narrow range of expression that any point of difference factors much larger than, say, voicing a piano chord differently.

The entire soundtrack for Remake blew it out of the park. That was the one thing I absolutely loved about it.

I don't agree. I prefer the original's soundtrack. The remake songs aren't really bad, just overproduced imo. The original has simple clear tones and more memorable songs. I feel like modern gaming in general has a problem with music that is overly orchestrated and, in turn, less memorable.

        >overproduced
Meaningless word from a moronic dilettante. Why not just say you don’t like it rather than fumbling for some horseshit explanation? What’s wrong with you?

It's not meaningless. Calm your breasts, you dumb homosexual.

If we play the song for 100 people...let's say the Motorcycle chase theme from the original and the remake, which one do you think people are going to actually remember note for note better? Why or why not?

Yes, there is such a thing as overproduced music. You can write a very complicated or nuanced piece with tons of instruments that will leave absolutely no impact on a listener, which is a common problem in modern games. The more simplistic tunes of earlier video game soundtracks are the ones that people recognize.

            >which one do you think people are going to actually remember note for note better?
That’s a specious “quality” to prioritize and shows you don’t actually understand the purpose of orchestration.
            >You can write a very complicated or nuanced piece with tons of instruments that will leave absolutely no impact on a listener
Again what does that have to do with the production? You’re just saying it wasn’t done well, that you didn’t like it, you’re not actually saying anything meaningful about the “production” itself
            >easier to recognize
Again this isn’t some magical standard that people aspire to when they write music. Obviously you realize that you made a bit of an ass of yourself and are trying to reframe the discussion to redeem your silly, ridiculous “point”

I just clearly explained what it meant and you went full blown moron and ignored it and said it doesn't count. I'm saying a song can be overproduced in the sense that it can be very technically complicated and yet leave zero impact on a listener. Memorability matters in music. Adding in more instruments, more detail, more sections doesn't make it automatically better. Those are related to production. If that's not production, then what is? I prefer the more impactful, minimalistic compositions of the original. Clearly you have a bug up your ass and think that adding more things in automatically means it's better.

You have yet to actually explain what you think is even similar about the two bass parts, let alone actually “the same”.
                >memorability matters in music
Yes, the impact of a passage does, but how well the audience can recite “all the notes” is meaningless. Either you chose your words carelessly above or you’re trying to, once again, shift your argument to something less moronic. I’m afraid it’s not going to work anon. And why even start a thread about music analysis if you bristle at making the simplest effort towards analyzing the music (You) posted about. What’s the matter with you? Are you some moronic south East Asian who can’t handle being wrong, because you really sound like one. Shit thread.

I hear what you're saying. Just wasn't that way for me. Every single piece, and I mean every single one was an aural delight. Each callback (and there were many callbacks) to the original soundtrack never stuck out as out of place to my ears and just melded itself perfectly to whatever was playing at the time. I guess if I really sat down again and re-listened I could find some tracks I probably think less of but dawg, it was next level for these ears.

        >modern gaming in general has a problem with music that is overly orchestrated and, in turn, less memorable.
it definitely does for AAA stuff, everything is overproduced in modern games, character designs are overdesigned with a thousand added "details" that end up deterring from the original idea, every sound effect is an electronic woob fart or sound of rocks/papers crumpling full of compression, ui is a big meme already with the sameness and similarities to mobile games and world of warcraft health bars and numbers, everything is so streamlined these days that it becomes a blur, and music is no different

What the frick is Sephiroth thinking? If this dumbass knows his future, why hasn't he killed Tifa (so she can't repair Cloud's mind), kill Aerith ASAP (before Holy goes though) and beeline for the black materia? Instead, he is wasting time by trolling Cloud like a sitcom nemesis. What the frick is this writing?
Please tell me it's just Cloud having a schizo episode and Sephiroth isn't intentionally being moronic.

It's Nomura so it's not going to be that simple. There will be at least 2 or 3 Sephiroths and one of them is Jenova and one of them is his good guy self circa Crisis Core and there's paradoxes and shit.
