Hes tied to another quest line where you can side with him and is also in several side quests and the fleets quest. Just turn on no essential npcs if it bothers you so bad im going to on new game plus once I don't give a shit about missing stuff

and unfortunately you have to betray the crimson fleet, otherwise a good portion of the enemies in the game become passive
the payoff is great but its not worth not having proper enemies for the rest of the game
I figured if I wanted the crimson fleet to be auto hostile I would just do the UC questline / play normally and rack up a ginormous CF bounty anyway

You get a shitty captain outfit Mathis has the better one equipped you can steal from him if you get him
If you didn't snitch on Mathis you get him as a crew mate
You get a room on the key

You get a legendary gun earlier in the quest line its an okay pistol thats very light weight
Guys you don't let in on the job won't be on the key but part of it bugs towards the end so they might teleport into key and get instantly shot by everyone
You get some unique dialog from random fleet members you run into about how your a legend and should be in charge etc

there are a lot of reasonably attractive or interesting ship crew members, but unfortunately arguably no good combat/exploration companions at all
I take sam along because I like his VA but generally yeah I agree. Plus I don't think lin and...the other mining guy are "real" followers with dialogue progression, similar to the random people you find in a bar. So the pool for interesting followers is even smaller
It fucking kills me that the crew mates don't get a quest and romance they are the best characters it fucking sucks. Bringing Marika Boros to Hopetown should start a quest or something for example it is nice she gets upset when you go there atleast. Mickey Caviar not having a quest is heresy he is THE MICKEY CAVIAR baby... or how Ezekiel is basically a cooler Sam who joins you for free because he's just based but no quest etc. Easily my biggest complaint cause I love the crew mates and hate constellation
