When I see that list of PS5 games posted, I do always say in my head 'Returnal is probably a good game ' but I've never played it kek. Demon's Souls, Returnal and I really think that's it. I should buy Returnal honestly, it's a shame how it's being overlooked by everybody when God of War still gains all this praise alongside Naughty Dog garbage and Sucker Punch take 20 years to make a new game, but they've still yet to make a shit game which is amazing. It's a pain I have to explain to people how I got my PS5 without spending much of anything really, just because it's embarrassing owning one where it's got zero games on the horizon. I also need to clean it out since it sounded like a jet engine the other day on YouTube fucking suddenly and I could hear it from downstairs pretty loud

A hardware ID can be copied to any number of locations in the console firmware. They could prevent this from happening even with a factory reset, but here's what we get.

      Anonymous

Think of what happens after snoy deletes the servers, you'd have to keep your PS5 intact if you ever want to play a game in the future. This also means you can't just put another SSD in it after the servers get shutdown, because the software can be acquired from sony's page but it needs to authenticate the drive, and with the servers down it can't.

        Anonymous

NTA, too bad. Many normies don't know that, so they would reset their PS5 for many reasons, so they will get a paperweight.

It means, if you buy an old console, that's has a detachable blueray. Chances are the previous owner did a factory reset and thus the blueray drive won't work

og xbox has the same kinda drm but without online. the console and drive have a matching hardware id so that drive only works with that specific console and vice versa. this kind of drm is nothing out of ordinary.

without paying for licensed blu-ray player software, you can only play blu-rays other people dumped the decryption keys for. if you want any blu-ray to work when you put it in as in a real player, you need to pay up.
it is not cracked nearly as thoroughly as DVD. everyone who replied "wdym just plug in le blu-ray drive" has not actually tried watching blu-rays on their PC.

i actually dont have a problem with companies taking some measures to protect against piracy, but it needs to be fair to the consumer as well. If they had their way you'd only be able to rent the console and only be allowed to play a game once before having to buy it again. Digital distriution and patching has caused immeasurable damage to the human race.

If I want to play OG Brood War, I can. And probably till the end of time. I can't play the remaster if I don't connect to the internet for thirty days in a row.

They probably would, it was just be slightly more costly to distribute, but you would have more publishers like the old days releasing them.

These kinds of arguments can only come from consolefags who know nothing about the industry. There are more fucking hentai games being sold on dlsite than entire libraries of classic consoles. A single fucking store, of a single fucking genre, already has more options than entire consoles from 15 or more years ago.
The idea that today's reality would exist in a physical world shows total ignorance. There isn't even enough fucking storage space to hold so many games. What lovers of pieces of plastic with encrypted digital data want is the return of a reality where 3 or 4 mega corporations control all the production and distribution of games. It's a form of cuckolding directed at the act of consuming products.
Learn: it's not the way that media is disseminated that matters, it's the way that people use to try to protect copyright. What we need is for copyright holders to trust in the good faith of consumers instead of adopting draconian measures to try to control them.

        Quick rundown:

        >it was found out that the c-battery in Ps4 and PS5 consoles would eventually burn out, and validation of game purchases was based solely on this
        >if your c-battery didn't work, your games go poof, even if you bought them physical
        >even if you got a new c-battery, it's not registered on sony's network, so you couldn't fix the problem
        >sony refused to fix this until everyone got on their case

Retard, this means when the ps5 servers shut down in 15 years and your ps5 needs a reset of any kind and/or you need to get a new one, you cannot, all your physical games will become literal paperweights and the store will eventually close like the ps3s, so Ur ps5 will be a paperweight as well

But then again it's not like snoydrones actually have an ounce of self respect and will literally buy and piece of planned obsolescence Sony will shit at them just like iPhone users

AACS encryption is DRM for Blu-ray discs, essentially. Not that it matters if you have $50, some hard drive space, and a little time. MakeMKV will rip Blu-rays regardless of AACS versions. If I like a movie/show/anime enough, I'll rip it with an external Blu-ray drive using MakeMKV and leave it completely uncompressed and without transcoding it, though you certainly can transcode if you're concerned about hard drive space. Certain Blu-ray drives are better for the MakeMKV ripping process, though. It's free while in beta, which it's been in for years. Still gets updated though. Have to get a new registration key from a forum page every month, or otherwise it's a $60 USD one-time purchase, which I think is pretty fair.

In August 2000, statements by Sony Pictures Entertainment U.S. senior vice president Steve Heckler foreshadowed the events of late 2005. Heckler told attendees at the Americas Conference on Information Systems:
        >The industry will take whatever steps it needs to protect itself and protect its revenue streams ... It will not lose that revenue stream, no matter what ... Sony is going to take aggressive steps to stop this. We will develop technology that transcends the individual user. We will firewall Napster at source – we will block it at your cable company. We will block it at your phone company. We will block it at your ISP. We will firewall it at your PC ... These strategies are being aggressively pursued because there is simply too much at stake.

Its a box full of games I can play whenever, so long as my (ten year old) ps4 holds out. Good quality on that ps4, lasting that long.

Sony sued LikSang for selling import PSP's to Europe and America because they came out in Japan first and were still a few months away in the EU and NA and completely fucked over the import market. Liksang were operating in a grey area and Sony used that to win legal victories. The whole intent of suing Liksang was to put them out of business rather than seek damages.

The reason people were pissed though, was that Liksang were very, very reputable in an era where ordering online from Asia was sketchy. LikSang carried a lot of asian games, soundtracks merchandise and more that was otherwise impossible to get at the time. And they did this with really fair pricing and shipping costs compared to Playasia. Losing Liksang was a massive loss for bringing JP culture to the west.

And fuck Playasia as well for going along with Sony and kissing their ass just to get rid of their competition and then jacking up prices more.

How can anybody justify buying consoles post 8th gen? Even 8th was pretty bad but 9th gen are genuinely nothing but worthless dogshit that are actively trying to make it impossible for you to own your console nonetheless your games. If you actually still enjoy playing video games and you haven't switched to PC yet I can only congratulate you on a successful lobotomy.
I swear, you can just play everything with a controller. Steam has its big picture mode if you're 10/60 and computers are too complicated for you. There's no downsides. Exclusives don't even exist anymore especially with emulation.

PS4 is absolutely fine. PS5 Fat is fine too. You can get them new from a factory in 2100 A.D., insert disc and play the game. Without pairing, accounts and other bullshit.

What the hell is up with Sony removing features in their consoles? PS3 loss Linux and hardware bc after the revision, Vita losses Oled after its revision, now PS5 loses its DRM free status after its revision.

They want to count drives before dithing them. To count probable loses.

They know for sure this tiny little DRM trick will damage their status. But they have decided it's a fair deal: most people don't care, they will know how many drives are in actual usage out there, and when it's the good timing to cease production of discs. Simply, they shit on me for their profits.

The preservation argument is a poor one. every game on every console can be downloaded, distributed, and emulated on a computer, in most cases, in a superior state than originally intended.

This argument is only brought out when people get pissed off because they finally realise they spent $600.00 on a technologically inferior proprietary paperweight.

      Anonymous

the preservation argument is still there when ps4 doesn't emulate, hell the ps3 still barely does and only for key games
go portbeg for console games elsewhere

PC is not suitable for long term preservation due to constant hardware and software updates, which drags you forward no matter of what. Once you step away from popular titles, you will face a hell of hardware, operating systems, drivers, middle-ware like Direct X, sound and video libraries, game itself DRM. Games on consoles just work as they work at the release day.

2, still play games on consoles

Literally EVERY boomer on Ganker is some RTX 3080 or better PC digital-ONLY scum who may or may not own a Nintendo Switch for that they buy games for but never even play those games because they spend their home quality time on their PC because "it's more convenient" as they all say. Quite literally NO boomers cares about this, but they'll still pretend as if they do. They'll pretend like that old NES/Sega - PS3/XB360 era collection they have is being played by anyone and isn't collecting dust.
