As you're typing out a blistering counterargument remember every statistic you've seen on Steam that indicates the vast majority of players never finish a game they buy.

They aren't going to finish this either. That statistic doesn't only apply to long games.

I think it's funny that Elden Ring is long as frick (for souls standards anyway) reaching almost between 150-250 hours on average for a first playthrough depending on the players skill and how much they choose to do yet it has almost a 40% completion rate if you go by the best metric to count "completion" with, which is killing Hoarah Loux since the multiple ending achivements muddles the waters somewhat.

I personally think it speaks more for how boring most players think the games they are playing are rather than how "long games take to long to complete" when people bring up just how low the completion rate for a lot of games are

It was just another Souls game with the typical modern open world slapped on it. Content zoning everywhere with extreme repetition. It didn't even work well with its previous systems, multiplayer was worse than ever before with the sudden fog walls in an open world and the removal of the mount.

  37. 1 year ago

They said the same thing before Valhalla and it turned out that Valhalla was bigger than Odyssey.

  38. 1 year ago

The story will be shorter and they'll cut holes in it to achieve that but don't worry you'll still have plenty of fetch quests to grind to craft and make the number go up so you can assassinate your targets in less than 50 axe blows

With a film there is an objective length.

    With a game you have

    > Missions (or mission tree)
    > Side missions
    > Challenges
    > Base upgrades
    > Character stat upgrades
    > Character Tmog Upgrades
    > Collecting shit
    > Radiant quests

I don't understand what game 'size' or 'length' is supposed to mean. This seems like a ploy to remove the elements of the game that are expensive to make.

    > Players: 'Ubisoft is an expert at making very well crafted environments but bad at story and gameplay. Most Ubisoft games are beautiful but boring and Ubisoft corporate appears to be run by the Devil'

    > Ubisoft: 'I know, what we should do is remove main quests and side quests and instead focus on making players collect 200 Imhotep lewd figurine NFTs'

      Anonymous

the most expensive shit is the stuff they thrive on, though. It's way more expensive to have a team of writers, directors, mocap, actors, etc to do their boring movie game bullshit but morons lap it up, so they have to cut gameplay and other actually fun elements to compensate

        Anonymous

It sounds like the main issue with games is that there is no measure of how fun different elements of the game are.

        > I fricking loved collecting all of the bobbleheads in F3
        > I loved reading the lore in DA:O
        > The characters in the W3 and RDR2 are awesome but W3 had less frustrating gameplay because of RDR2's emphasis on hidden cutscenes when they should have just had a cutscene
        > Wow Legion had some of the best community
        > Destiny has the best raid concepts

If metacritic only gives one score then gaming companies are going to optimise for that score.

AC2 was already the absolute pinnacle of modern open world slop with countless meaningless side content scattered across the map. This series was never good. AC 1 was mediocre and every AC game since then was equally terrible.
