you're going to be locked away in a room with nothing but a TV and one of these consoles for 365 days. both are modded with their full libraries ready to play, but the PS2 had its backwards compatibility disabled.
which one do you take with you?

I bring a PC
This is the best answer, but if I'm playing by OP rules, the PS1
Easily the PS1. PS2 had a handful of really good games but no where near the length that the PS1 had. Also including all of the Japanese ps1 games I've wanted to play
PS1 is the smarter choice but I pick the PS2 just for Dark Chronicle. I'm not smart.
PS2 at least has two good games so that.
Xbox, Gamecube, N64, Saturn, PS1, PS2 in that order
PS2 because nothing on the PS1 is worthwhile except some mid RPGs and kid's platformers.
PS1 has a better library
Zoomers
>nothing but Tekken and gran turismo
You don't know anything about the PS1 (or PS2) so why even speak
>fan transfiction
You didn't beat the game.
game?
From what game is that pic?
>dude this kusoge I played when I was 3 is great trust me
I played the vast majority of the PS1 library when i was an adult
PS1 games didn't need analogs, in fact very few of them supported them
It can compete by having more classics and generally games with much better soundtracks, more originality, better artstyles
>Not to mention that a lot of psx games received a remake in ps2 which turned out to be better than the original
You should have made up bettter lies
>PS1 games didn't need analogs
I always forget Sony couldn't handle the whole 3D thingy until the 2000s
But the dual shock was released in 97.
Wasn't used
When you'll stop saying retarded shit maybe you'll learn
>time to beat, completionist: 2 hours
Ok so what do I play for the remainder of 364 days and 22 hours?
No one is stopping you to replay a game, especially shmups since they are made to be highly replayable.
Other games, MMO addict.
PS1 being a mainly 2D system, essentially a SNES-2, is enough to make it better than PS2 (SNES3).
Just having multiple Street Fighter games featuring the character Ibuki is enough to make PS1>6th gen>PS2.
Dreamcast actually had a few, too.
>when i was an adult
wut
really putting the "old" in "oldfag" aren't you
if i can play ffxi on the ps2, i would pick that instantly. otherwise it's a harder choice but i think i'd still pick the ps2 because it has some real autism games like disgaea you can grind. 365 days is a long time, you need some real autism sinks to get through it unless you want to speedrun sotn or something. i'd legitimately take phantasy star online (in offline mode) over most console libraries for that reason alone.
That reminds me that monster hunter is on ps2 as well, easy choice.
Anon you really don't want to play the first monster hunter
Of all the good games on PS2 the MMO addicts go for the shittiest ones, magical
You're literal imbeciles.
Its over anon I saw your typo
you can blow through a lot of the shit games on either platform in no time at all. like 100 days easy if you're locked in a room with only that to do, after that you need some games with massive replayability or that can keep you occupied with shit grinds for a while. like disgaea isn't something i'd play otherwise but ulililililia sunk an ungodly amount of hours into a single disgaea game, that's the kind of shit you need in that scenario.
The PS1 and PS2 have many thousands of games, even just the shorter titles would take nearly a lifetime to be finished, adding the longer titles on top of that would mean it would be 100% impossible to finish their entire libraries in a lifetime.
a lot aren't worth playing more than like 5 to 10 minutes of, there's tons of shovelware on both systems just like on modern systems.
PS2 wins for Grand Theft Kino alone
PS2, easily.
fuck this is a tough one
even without delving further into making a list of games on both sides, i already know that i have to make a choice between san andreas and digimon world 2, my favourite game
BUT, i will go with the ps2, for various reasons.
first of all i have a gargantuan backlog on both, BUT while the ps1 can be effortlessly emulated on a bajillion portable devices with fast forward and save states, pcsx2 is still a fucking bitch. having a modded ps2 with its COMPLETE library would actually come in handy
if the choice had been FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE ON A DESERTED ISLAND the dilemma would have been real, but i can easily survive 365 days without my psx games. i can just play them later.
ps2. it plays ps1 gamss
But can it teach you how to read?
I fix the compatibility mode :^)
READ bro, READ
PS1
PS1 because https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9VEglG0L8w .
PS2.
Lots of PS1 stuff aged like milk.
it'd probably be easier to kill myself with a ps2
PS1 no contest.
I think I'd go with PS1. Most of the games I enjoyed just didn't get a proper revision over on the PS2. Sure, there is Monster Rancher and Deception (technically) although Azure Dreams, Torneko's Dungeon, Harvest Moon, SaGa Frontier, and more remain on the PS1. I'll be missing out on Steambot Chronicles, Skygunner, and others, but I think the PS1 had a wider range of games to try out.
ps2, obviously
>mgs 2/3
>gta 3/vc/sa/lcs/vs
>yakuza/2
>gt4
>dmc/2/3
>ffx/x2/xii
>persona 3/4
etc, etc
>persona 4
>ps2
How young?
You forgot the masterpiece that is DQ8. Also beyond good & evil.
>no Silent Hill 2/3
>no Clock Tower 3
>no Haunting Ground
>no Resident Evil 4
>no Dark Cloud / Rogue Galaxy
>no FFX
>no Dragon Quest VIII
>no Kingdom Hearts
>no Disgaea
>no Jak and Daxter
>no Persona 3/4
>no SMT3: Nocturne
>no Baulder's Gate: Dark Alliance 1&2
>no Xenosaga
>no Shadow of the Colossus
>no Ico
>no Katamari
>no Mister Mosquito
>no Stretch Panic
>no Dog's Life
>no Psychonauts
>no Okami
>no GTA Kino Trill OG
>no Sly Cooper
>no Rachet and Clank
>no Devil May Cry
the PS1 makes me wanna kill myself if I had to play it exclusively
PS2 port of Psychonauts was shit.
Sly Cooper 1/5
Jak and Daxter 1/5
Stretch Panic 1/5
Katamari Damacy 1/5
Run DMC 1/5
Okami 1/5
Ratchet and Clank 1/5
Ico 1/5
Shadow of the Colossus 1/5
Ico 1/5
Kingdom Hearts 1/5
Persona without Jackfrost 1/5
Psychonauts 1/5
Anything Dragon Quest 1/5
Xenoseries 1/5
Disgaya 1/5
FFTidus 1/5
Dark Cloud 1.5/5
RE4 2/5
Mister Mosquito 2/5
GTA 3.5/5
1/5 is still higher than all ps1 games combined
Brave Fencer Musashi is a 5/5 worth more than everything you listed combined.
>shitty forced zelda clone is actually beddur!!!!
the absolute state of nostalgia fags
BFM was out before the only relevant Zelda(s).
>3D
>no camera control
>no analog
What a shit game
Any DarkStalkers game is an automatic 5/5,
which 6th gen has absolutely none of because its pop landscape was culturally bankrupt.
You really hate gameplay, huh.
No, which I why I chose the superior ps2 over the wait your turn simulator library of the ps1
All non-turn based games on that list are either movies or button mashers.
PS2 games were just PS1 games with more bloat, worse music and way more cinematics
this post is correct. fuck retarded boomers with nostalgia goggles
Retarded boomer is an oxymoron, except for eskimo Ed.
PS1. The PS2 has a lot of great games, but it just can't compare to the PS1
say no more
ps2 obviously, i owned a ps1 as a child with tons of games and they all were brutal eye cancer.
also ps2 has nfs underground 2 which is a no-brainer. also gta san andreas.
even has age of empires.
>gta san andreas.
this is a really good reason
I can survive with either.. Though Disgaea 1 and 2 are on PS2, Final Fantasy I to IX are on PS1 as is Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross.
Does PS2 have Mega Man X4? No.
Does PS2 have Mega Man X7? Yes.
But also PS1's game library shits all over the PS2's in general, so PS1.
Ports don't count as PS2 games, and without them 6th gen is worthless.
>Ports don’t count
Looks like it says PS2 to me, it’s right there on the cover. Only backwards compatibility is disabled.
It's not logical of you to cite 90s ports as a reason to erase the 90s from existence
because then the reason to erase the 90s from existence would no longer exist
because they'd never have been created in the first place to give you justification to so.
PS1 Crash games sure are better than PS2 Crash games. Same goes for Spyro. Ape Escape sequels are inferior to original game too.
PS1.
Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is on PS2 just saying
PS1 had R-Type Delta, PS2 had R-Type Final. Its pointless to make this kind of comparisons, you either look at everything or nothing
The PS1 has movie games too, few walking simulators though
Walking simulators don't allow you to jump, swim, push objects, ride a horse or climb ledges/chains/ladders/pipes/fur/grass like Ico and SotC do.
You can't just disable the backwards compatibility, I reject this premise and take the ps2 and play both systems games.
>You can't just disable the backwards compatibility
Anon...
PS1 doesn't have the Fumito Ueda/Kenji Kaido/Junichi Hosono saga.
I believe the PS1 is a better choice. While the PS2 has games like DMC and DBZ BT3, I believe the PS1 games are better in the long run especially since replayability and game length is a factor. PS1 also has the best Crash games so there's that.
For me? its Marranos en guerra
Literally cannot think about how psx could even compete with ps2. Most of the considered "the best" psx games are clunky shit and unplayable by today standards. While ps2 still holds up pretty well with game like DMC3 or RE4. Not to mention that a lot of psx games received a remake in ps2 which turned out to be better than the original (since back then they respected a lot the original game, unlike now, and it was mostly a 1:1 conversion with just better graphics, polished gameplay and QoL features)
That's because you weren't alive at the time. You aren't familiar with what games are on each system. You've just seen lists and see that some sequels are on the PS2, and automatically assume that's better quality and that's true for every series.
>thinking that Castlevania: Lament of Innocence is better than Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Also, how many games on PS1 got a re-release on the PS2? Name five.
>thinking that Castlevania: Lament of Innocence is better than Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
who are you quoting? I was talking about remakes, not game sequels
Talking about ost is the most subjective thing you can do. Literally it is only a matter of tastes and ps2 had some of the best game soundtracks I've ever heard
>I was talking about remakes, not game sequels
Name five.
Its not subjective at all, the PS2 is when games tried to really drag out their length and added voice acting on top of everything, soundtracks suffered as a result.
I hate how games like Killer7, Psychonauts and Sonic Heroes are so inferior on PS2.
Lucky for you only Killer7 is any good.
PS1 doesn't have Jak 2. One of my favorite games period.
That's tough. I pick ps1
Ape Escape 1, Silent Hill 1 and Klonoa 1 are better than PS2 sequels.
Ps2, it has sotc, gta, kings field 4 and shadow tower, plus some shovelware hidden gems
why do cheap cosplay whores never get form fitting gloves it really isnt that hard
PS2. The PS1 has a lot of games that are interesting but also significantly more overlap in the gameplay departments.
PS2 is more diverse and I feel offers a lot of games with more replay value, even if the games in general tend to be shorter.
I assume all visual novels are translated in this absurd hypothetical? Those would probably be a requirement to stay remotely grounded in sanity. I'd pick PS2 in either case.
We really can't understand the sheer library size of either console. There's really nothing else like them in terms of selection.
Understate* the library size.
If you're open to variety gaming in general and had access to all of the the titles on these consoles you would likely never run out of things to play.
PS2 could last me 5 years.
i'd rather be stuck in a room with league of legends than with both ps1 & ps2 combined
i could fap to all the female champs, have infinite replay value and chat with strangers
if all communcation would be disabled (just real players playing, but not communicating) then i'd probably still pick it.
PSX, easy
RE4
GTA SA
GTA VC
GTA 3
Katamari
NFSU2
Love me some PS1 but I gotta go with Piss 2
PS2. Better genres. More modern games.
>I bring a PC
Throw all those garbage funcos in the trash were they belong.
Toss the cardboard Minecraft stuff in after it.
Put the manga on the top shelves where I can reach it easily.
Put the rainbow rug over the window so I have a proper curtain.
Throw the stuffed sharks on the bed, they're cute.
Don't give a fuck about the color of the desk or chair because I'm not a whiny gay, I'll use it as long as it works well.
You're either a gay brunoid or a female.
>he doesn't see the flag
Funny how the most perfect game on PS2 began development on PS1.
>Escort Mission: The Game
>perfect anything
Any of them, both are amazing
I'm going to break this down for myself.
PS1 would have FF8, Tekken 2 and 3, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, the good Need for Speed games, the Crash and Spyro series, Crash Team Racing, OG Tomb Raider, Bloody Roar, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Triple Play baseball, Hot Shots golf, Heart of Darkness, the Oddworld games, NFL Blitz, Coolboarders 2, GTA 2, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, and all of the demo discs to learn other games I can look into.
PS2 has the GTA III - San Andreas, Kingdom Hearts, God of War (when it was still good), Katamari Damacy, Devil May Cry, Midnight Club II, Tekken Tag Tournament, NFS Underground, SSX 3, Viewtiful Joe, RE4, and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3
This is tough, but I'd go with the PS1. Speaking personally, the PS1 library is better for me and the games by comparison are more fun on PS1. Although SSX 3 is one of my favorite games of all time, I'd be OK with trading that for the other games on PS1. Especially one of my other favorite games of all time in FF8 and the higher chance that I'm going to find and enjoy more hidden gems on the PS1 than PS2 just because the PS1 was much more experimental than PS2 from a gameplay standpoint overall.
If I picked PS2 I would only really miss Crash Team Racing, Spyro games, Gran Turismo and Resident Evils
>PS2 has two Monster Hunter games.
That could fill the entire year by itself
There's also DMC3 and three GTA games on there.
I can't think of a single PS1 game you could play for more than like 20 hours outside of JRPGs, but I think I'd go insane if I spent a year playing nothing but those.
ps2 easily. ps1 only has better RPGs, ps2 is better for everything else.
If anything the PS2 IS the JRPG machine, so if you hate those you better stay away.
The top 100 PS1 games list on Metacritic includes 25 RPGs
PS2 has 7 RPGs
>Metacritic
And? You want to say something that is actually intelligent next?
>You want to say something that is actually intelligent next?
Sure!
You're a complete idiot if you think the PS2 has a better or more diverse offering of RPGs than the PS1.
How's that?
It has more JRPGs, you can count them yourself if you want. The issue is that those JRPGs are generally not at the level of the ones on PS1, not even remotely i'd add.
how? ps2 had turn based, action based, tactic based, some weird action points based like valkyrie profile 2, it even had literal social simulator jrpgs like persona. Most of the psx catalog is just turn based
Did the PS2 actually have an TRPG? I can only think of ones from the PS1.
I've play suikoden tactics and arc the lad - tots. Maybe there's some more
There is this misconception that PS1 games were all "turn-based" or JRPGs, watch this and tell me how many of them are either turn based or RPGs, then realize the vast majority of people don't know what they are talking about
Yes but not the good ones, unless you count slop like Disagea as good
>console with no games
I am fine with the few games I mentioned. HDN1, HDN Mk2, HDN Victory, and Persona 5 are all I need.
it has soul nomad which is kino
>Metacritic
You're not to be taken seriously with this.
> ps1 only has better RPGs
not really. And even SNES had better jrpg than psx
Lol, no.
>even snes
You are a joke with a pulse,
because even PS1<SNES
I disagree
The average JRPG on the SNES is inferior to the PS1. Sure it has Romancing SaGa 2, but in general the PS1 trounces the SNES when it comes to JRPGs.
Why is everyone pretending like PS1 games are good?
What kind of TV will I get?
How many memory cards do I have?
Does the PS1 come with any accessories?
Is the PS2 a fat or slim model?
By "full libraries" are you including NTSC-J and PAL?
Considering the PS2 has plenty of PS1 ports, am I not allowed to play those either?
What if the console overheats, am I just stuck with a brick for a whole year?
Who is making sure I stay in this room for 365 days?
How big is the room?
Where do I go to take a piss or sleep?
Does anyone know I'm in this room anyways?
Am I required to play the PS1 / PS2 or can I just bide my time?
I hope someone brings me food once in a while...
PS2 has Spiderman 2 and Shinobi, so that. All the good Ace Combats too.
PS1 has Spiderman and Spiderman 2 Enter Electro
I've not touched or thought about Spiderman on PS1 and I STILL remember "EEL NATS". That and Spiderman "fixing" your bad words.
>I've not touched or thought about Spiderman on PS1
meant to add "in decades" to that.
Ace combat 2 is the best ace combat you fucking plebian
It's great but 4 and 0 are better.
am i a contrarian? ps1
am i wanting to play good games? ps2
The entire PS2 library would keep me for a year easy (I could spend a month each on GTA Vice City and San Andreas, and Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, let alone the rest of those ten gorillion moron grindan rpgs), but every single day of it I'll be regretting that I'm unable to play Spyro Ripto's Rage or Year of the Dragon
PS2 for GTA SA alone.
Can I have a PS3 instead? At least I'd be able to play Neptunia games and base Persona 5.
>Can I have a PS3 instead?
That's just solitary confinement.
PS2. I like the PS1 a lot, but I couldn't imagine having enough to play on it for a year compared to PS2 games
Not enough movie games like Yakuza i assume?
It's a hard choice, but PS2 is better.
Jorgito!
I'll piss all you 2000s metrosexuals off by uploading a screen recording of November '99's EGM
which showcases a fully working PS2 exactly as it appears in OP's pic related:
They literally added nothing to it between 1 November 1999 and 4 March 2000.
I'll show you Hsu and Chan's comic debut in that very same issue.
>lose argument
>reply to nobody
Even with 10x that amount of time and playing every single day, it's doubtful you'd exhaust the library of either one of these, let alone get through all of the good games on them.
Insomniac was better on PS1. I liked Disruptor and Spyro trilogy more than R&C trilogy/Deadlocked.
PSX is a must. The chassis for a start. Also The INTRO OH GOD I'M COOOMING!
Ps2
I get king’s quest 4,mgs2,mgs3,god of war 1 to 3, dmc 1 to 3, apes escape 2 and 3, dragon ball tenkaichi 3, etc…
I think it depends if you have another person to play with. If I was alone in a bunker I think I'd take the PS2 but if I was with another person I think I'd pick the PS1 with 2 controllers and its full library due to so many random 2 player games.
Not even a contest
The PS1 has lots of time consuming RPG classics, but the PS2 has deeper and longer games in most other genres. It would hold my zoomer attention span better.
If you believe the internet the PS2 has 42,000 hours worth of games while the PS1 only has 24,000. You will probably only play 5000 or so even with nothing else to do but eat and sleep so it doesn't really matter but still my feeling is the PS2 has plenty of long ass 3D RPGs and shit that are time wasters, while even with as many JRPGs as the PS1 had prior to cinematic elements they were like half as long.
I mean with PS1 you have stuff like Metal Gear Solid, The 3 Resident Evil games, The 5 Tomb Raider games, The 3 Crash bandicoot games and the racing game and crash bash, The 3 Spyro games, Medievil, Tekken 3, Dino Crisis, The 3 Dyphon Filter games, The 2 Spider-Man games, The 2 Tenchu games, Blood Omen and Soul Reaver, Silent Hill, FF7,8,9 and Tactics, Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve, Legend of Dragoon, Bushido Blade, Time Crisis, Castlevania SOTN, Soul Blade, Suikoden, Wild Arms, Xenogears, Ace Combat, Alundra, Street Fighter Alpha 3
Then PS2 you have stuff like Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, GTA3 VC and SA, DMC1 and 3, The 3 Jak games, Soul Reaver 2 and Legacy of Kain Defiance, Silent Hill 2 and 3, Tekken Tag 1 Tekken 4 and Tekken 5, Soul Calibur 2 and 3, Persona 3 and 4, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Legends and Underworld, Star Wars Battlefront 2.
So I dunno if I really had to pick only 1 I think the PS1 would be better.
>"hmm in my prefered console you have" *mentions 30 good games out of the 100 good games it has*
>"meanwhile in the console I don't like that much you have" *mentions 15 good games out of the 300 good games it has*
>"yes, that for sure will probe my point"
no I just got too lazy as the post went on tbh. I like them both
PS2. I can work on my 1CC runs for Gradius V, Espgaluda, and Psyvariar 2.
PS1 are you fuckin nuts
PS1 easily.
You don't get your gen because it's from MY era,
except for GameCube and Xbox which were always worthless anyway.
PS2 because it can also play DVDs
idk I got a ps1 and then a ps5
I have no idea what happened in between or what games the other systems had
