You shitpost about this non stop but let's actually talk about this seriously: yes, both have the same core idea, no memes but ToTK is a massive success praise everywhere and Nut & Bolts was a massive failure insulted by everyone, what ks the difference between them?

Nuts and Bolts was ahead of its time, it existed before Minecraft and all of its "build stuff" clones took over gaming. But also, TotK is a bad game and zoomers/Nintendo cultists have awful taste.

Link can still fight with his sword and even use the building mechanic to make his sword even more crazy while Banjo and Kazooie kost all thier moves.

I blame the artstyle nuts and botls when with, I fricking hate that cubic look. Smash bros actually did what i wanted with Banjo and Kazooie: just make them HD, fun fact: the Nuts & Bolts designer actually hated BK smash looks and said "it should have been cubical!"

In Nuts & Bolts, the vehicle building wasn't just the main focus, it was the ONLY focus. It wasn't a platformer where you build vehicles to assist yourself, it was a vehicle building game that also directly shat on the previous games in the intro (albeit in joking way that fans really overblew). Meanwhile, TotK has the vehicle building IN ADDITION to the gameplay loop of BotW, a game which people already loved, and returning ideas like traditional dungeons and a Dark World equivalent and everything..

In TotK the core idea is still exploration, you are building to accomplish tasks but mainly the key idea is getting around to places to find what is there.

Nuts & Bolts the world is empty except for mission starting points, N&B would be largely unchanged if you just selected levels from a menu instead of having to wander around.

I'm not sure nuts and bolts was ahead of its time. It was just on a terrible system that no one owned.
Let's be honest, as someone who has played both nots and bolts, and totk, Nintendo really handled the physics well, it's simple and smooth.

I'm sure Nuts & Bolts would be a cult classic if It wasn't tied to the Banjo IP. They sabotaged that gameplay concept by attaching it to a character that people desperately wanted to come back and then making it have nothing to do with that character's previous gameplay

If Nuts & Bolts wasn't universally reviled, we would have more funny crossovers like this.

It's funny that for all the TotK -> Nuts& Bolts comparisons, no one really points out that BotW itself was kind of the natural conclusion of the Banjo-Kazooie formula. They are both games where the core appeal is wandering around a huge world trying to find a bunch of tiny things

Whoa, no, stop right here, BoTW open world is too similar looking and empty, Banko Kazooie levels were unique and full of charm.

That's just aesthetic, it doesn't mean they don't have the same core gameplay

Building is optional for 90% of TotK, and building vehicles is never required for anything. You still spend most of your time in TotK exploring and fighting enemies.

TotK is a Zelda game with a fun and interesting gameplay addition. N&B is absolutely nothing but that new gameplay addition.

In short: The comparison is moronic, and shitposters like you are moronic too.

Nuts & Bolts is from a series where every game is terrible, meanwhile Zelda has had plenty of good games.

tooie was a full of good ideas executed terribly, and for every positive change from kazooie they had a bad one as well.

    Summarizing what anons said:
    >In ToTK, building is an optional mechanic while in N&B is the only mechanic.
    >Zelda is fresh with recent games while BJ was dead for like 10 years before N&B.
    >ToKT is not insulting fans, which normally BK would have taken with laugh but the combination of being the first BK game in a decade and not being like any previous BK game left them bitter and unable to take a joke.

      >building is optional
You outright need building to finish a majority of puzzles
      >zelda is fresh
      6 years
      >not insulting
90% of the puzzles in the game are puzzles designed for crows and toddlers
Only time the game got a little hands free was thunderhead but even then ot was incredibly simple

The original pitch for Banjo 3 is that it was going to be a remake of Banjo 1 but with Gruntilda going around changing history and making everything different than you remember. I still think that would have been awesome and am mad it didn't happen

i didnt play nuts and bolts but i recall it leaving a horrible first impression on people by making fun of earlier games in the series, saying "nobody wants this platforming shit and youre fat." in the tutorial, or something like that.

Nuts and Bolts was a good idea in concept but was executed pretty badly, also it had no reason to be a Banjo Kazooie game and likely would have been received a lot better if it was a brand new IP

    that's it

The difference is that one is the sequel to a game that sold 30 million copies and the other one is a spin-off to a game that sold 3 million copies.

Maybe Nintendo took 6 years to work in the building mechanic so it wasn't shit like the N&B one.

Yeah, must be so hard doing better with a bigger team, more budget, a shitload of time and having nuts and bolts as inspiration. Though I never played nuts and bolts so I don't even know if nintendo did better.
