Zelda ripoff combined with what will eventually become TMNT. For some reason they also released it in the US as The Goonies 2 even though we never got the first game.

I have beaten most Konami games on NES/Famicom, which is about 75 of them, and this was my least favourite game. I hated the puzzle elements in the first person parts.

think he means the status bar looks like Zelda's. and technically we did get the first game, just as a Playchoice 10 cab instead of a cartridge.

Also the music in the first person parts does sound suHispaniciously like the Zelda dungeon music doesn't it?

that tune is a digitized version of the Cyndi Lauper song from the movie.

They actually did almost 100 NES/FC games (I didn't count games like Pirates! that Konami just published and didn't develop themselves)

I also bet he hasn't played Hyper Soccer or Risa no Yōsei Densetsu.

        >Risa no Yōsei Densetsu.

        No translation

        >Hyper Soccer

No I haven't played their soccer games yet, but I will. I still need to beat Top Gun 1/2 and Tetsuwan Atom as well. Also Motocross Champion, I got stuck in the last course (course 8) which I genuinely believe to be the hardest game by Konami on the system

and if anyone has beaten Cosmic Wars let me know. The game doesn't seem too hard but man it's long as fuck, and the learning curve is steep because the same unit types between player and computer side look nothing alike so it's a pain to know what is what.

Completely different game that has nothing to do with either of the NES Goonies games.

For some reason the existence of this game had me thinking there was an actual Goonies 2 that I just never got around to watching (and to be fair, until a few years ago I had only seen the original movie like once back in the early 90's). Apparently they're actually wanting to make it now?

Supposedly Disney was developing a show... that's about some school play reenacting The Goonies or something. Meh.
At least they're not ruining the lore I guess.

It's not actually a "sequel" to the original Goonies, more like a bigger, better, and improved remake that looks like a proper NES game instead of a Colecovision game. Quite strange to spend the resources doing so but it does make sense that Konami would localize it for the US instead of the more primitive original game.

Don't see anything Zelda except player interface, but even if it is, it's /good enough/ for me. I love Goonies.

First game is one of my childhood games that defined my interest in NES and arcade genre. Movie was ok too. Do the truffle shuffle!

This game offered a very new style of gameplay when it landed in 87 on the NES. It was a year before zelda 2 or Simon's quest, and only a few months after metroid. Unlike metroid it had NPCs and far more quest items (and far more backtracking). Better enemy variety too.

-Ice region with axe wielding eskimos and killer penguins
-Undead area with skeleton warriors and ghosts and shit
-fire area with lava, fire breathing dragons
-Spooky house with bats, spiders, snakes
-Constantly chased by unkillable Fratelli thugs that you can only stun and run from as they shoot at you
-underwater level where you get a diving suit and speargun with skarks and swimming skeletons (pirate corpses?) and eventually rescue the topless mermaid e-boi.
-annoying first person corridors which had more obscure secrets than shadowgate. puzzles were not intuitive at all, lots of random wall hammering, sometimes even punching NPCs.

Not necessarily a good game, but fairly unique when it landed for the NES in 87. Most people couldnt beat it until nitnendo plublished their players guide in 88.

      Unironically my favorite Metroidvania.

And it IS a sequel to the movie so calling it Goonies II is just fine.

As a kid, I stupidly thought there was a Goonies II movie that this game was based on. But I could never find the movie to rent anywhere. It was something that I later found out was never a thing. It was weird because the Goonies 1 game was never released on the NES in North America. It was a Japanese only thing. Though, I think it also came out for the NES PlayChoice-10 arcade cabinet. I always thought it would be funny if someone tried to make a fake Goonies II trailer based directly on the NES Goonies II box art.

I only got to play the first goonies on play choice 10 a couple times, wish it would have made it to the US.

I think the word you are looking for is 'Metgoonvania'. Yeah, even though it was a pre-Castlevania SOTN game, it was still made by Konami, who also did Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest. It has a really good NES cover of Cindy Laupers' Goonies R Good Enough...
