There is actually a 5th temple, that rewards you with a literal mecha you can outfit with weapons.

please tell me as much without spoilers as you can - can I get the mecha first or do I have to do main 5 temples? I want to use mecha as much as I can before finishing the game.

You have to finish the first 4, I don't think it is possible to skip straight there, but I may be wrong, never tried.

In theory you should just be able to fly into the storm cloud in the south and start the quest for it early.
A hoverbike should be enough to make it up there.

            thanks!

I did it by chance after only one temple myself, and I doubt even that was strictly necessary.

I stand corrected. I guess if you know where it is, and have the means to get up there with some roblox shit, there is no reason you couldn't get it early.

10 hearts is the only hard requirement

          Anonymous

Its easy. First, get 10 hearts and get the Yiga clan helmet that makes you immune to lightning. Fly up into the storm with a balloon or something.

Getting to the shrine is tricky. Watch a youtube video. You have to ascend from below after riding a railcar for a bit. Enjoy your mech.

          Anonymous

Theoretically you can get it before doing any of the Temples, the only requirement is having 10 hearts
You also need a way to get onto the Thundercloud Island but any decent flying machine and enough Zonai charges should be sufficient
It's definitely intentional because you get a different cutscene later on if you've already completed this part of the game once you have all the Sages

I like the idea of Zelda doing time shenanigans and sacrificing her humanity to restore and empower the Master Sword. Divorced from everything else that's rock solid and retrieving the sword from Dragon Zelda is a good moment. It's just all the details of the past and the timespan of it all is messy. You could probably fix a lot of it by just omitting the detail that the Zonai founded Hyrule (they just married into the royal family at some point in the past, whatever) and then just shrugging the rest off with Temple of Time frickery. They were already doing time travel bullshit, so they might as well have leaned into it.

          >The Upheaval exploded the Temple of Time and caused a bunch of Zonai sky shit to phase in from the past (which is also why it was missing before)

Nah, ancient shit was all destroyed by the upheaval. If you trace the locations of BotW shiekah shrines, you'll find that in TotK there is hole to the depths now, a cave, or a sky island that fell on it (and destroyed it on molecular level I guess, I don't know why there isn't any ruins of the shrines at least)

That's not that weird for this game, admittedly. People only know OF Link as "that swordsman that's with the Princess", but they don't really know who he is or what he looks like. Even being told his name is Link a lot of them just go "Oh same name as the hero guy huh?"

She didn't change a shit because this is a stable time loop: ToTK Zelda find mummy dorf and is sent to the past, helps to seal dorf, from the malice generated by mummy dorf calamity ganon is born, BoTW happens, then ToTK Zelda finds mummy dorf and is sent to the past....the loop is closed.

      Anonymous

Nope, because it goes like this:
      1. BotW happens.
      2. Zelda finds dehydrated bowser under the castle, and teleports back in time somehow (still unexplained at all).
      3. While in the past, she turns herself into an immortal dragon.
      4. While in dragon form, she kinda teleports forward through time (figuratively), until Link finds her and reverses her back to human form.

So she kinda jumps back in time, then again forward, back to her original time.

That's why I said that she figuratively went forward through time by being a dragon. Since dragon-zelda is not really Zelda, so when she is reversed to being a hylian, that's when Zelda exists again, so she in a way teleported through time again.

        >teleports back in time somehow (still unexplained at all)
She got a secret stone and it amplified her powers which apparently are time powers now and she somehow in a moment of pure desperation sent herself back, I guess. Why she can't send herself back to the present is never explained.

              They should watch Termminator.

It's weird because Terminator (at least the first one) was written specifically to avoid paradoxes or confusion. Back to the Future doesn't make sense if you think about it too hard. Marty almost erases himself from existence by fricking up his parents' meeting, but how could he frick up his parents' meeting if he never existed to go back in time in the first place? It's a basic grandfather paradox. But it's a comedy so you don't think about that while you're watching it. Obviously any type of time travel is a fictional conceit but causality loops are the easiest to understand. I don't know why so many people are adamantly arguing that TOTK isn't a causality loop; they're arguing for an even more confusing version of the story.

Yes, that's a causality loop. No one change the future by going to the past, they can only do things that guarantee the future they came from. The Terminator can't actually kill Sarah, if he did he would remove the reason he went back in the first place. Kyle can't not frick Sarah, if he didn't John wouldn't exist to send him back.

                Anonymous

The first two Terminators work perfectly fine on a closed loop. Skynet and John both think they CAN change the past, but they can't, their actions in the past already happened.
Later Terminators break these rules entirely because... Sequels.

Yeah I didn't bring up the sequels because they were so bad I don't remember them. I didn't even see the most recent one but my friend told me that John dies as a kid and Skynet doesn't exist but some other functionally identical evil AI with a different name does and is trying to kill a Hispanic girl that will grow up to be a rebel leader in the future. So they went to the trouble of deleting the old characters and ideas but just replaced them with the same things anyway, I don't know what they were thinking

      3. While in the past, she turns herself into an immortal dragon.
      4. While in dragon form, she kinda teleports forward through time (figuratively), until Link finds her and reverses her back to human form.

So she kinda jumps back in time, then again forward, back to her original time.

Its not a stable time loop. The whole Master Sword plotline is contingent on Zelda allowing it to absorb her sacred light for 10,000 years. She can't do this and also be around for BotW.

It is a stable time loop and is presented as such. There were two Zeldas in the world for a bit until Zelda got transported to the past

Do you not understand what a Causal Loop is? Present day Zelda is a woman out of Time. She disappeared from the current day to the past. In the past she became a dragon. That dragon has been flying around since... who the frick knows how long. At some point a second Zelda will be naturally born within the royal family as the origin point of dragon Zelda who is predestined to defeat the Calamity, find Ganon's corpse, and once again fall back in time to fulfill the events of the past.

          A few things.
          1. There's no Light Dragon in BotW, showing it's clearly a different timeline
          2. The Master Sword is a single object, and it's use in TotK depends on the Sacred Light shenanigans.
Natural conclusion is that it's an OoT situation with a changed timeline, only we get to see the changes from the timeline in the same world.

            >1. There's no Light Dragon in BotW, showing it's clearly a different timeline

            >2. The Master Sword is a single object, and it's use in TotK depends on the Sacred Light shenanigans.
And there were two master swords at some point but one of them had to be sent back to the past to complete the loop

It's a direct sequel, it should be consistent with the first game. The only way for it to be consistent is to consider it an alternate timeline.

Not that anon but this twist could have easily been done by retconning Zelda as one of the other 3 dragons present in BotW. They didn't do this though which makes me thing it was intentional

Another more Zelda esque solution would have been Zelda splitting her soul in to 3 and each dragon carried part of it or some shit. Adding a whole new dragon was pants on head moronic

            >1. There's no Light Dragon in BotW, showing it's clearly a different timeline
this one can be explained by it flying way above the cloud barrier, because you see the dragons disappearing beyond it in portals in botw

            >1. There's no Light Dragon in BotW, showing it's clearly a different timeline
I mean light dragon doesn't appear anywhere below I think 1600ish meters at its very minimum, and that is just because it has to fly below the sky ships in the rito area, everywhere else it is around 1800-2300 meters
The highest you can realistically go in botw without glitches or balloon spam is like 800m, where it probably won't even be visible

Ultrahand the bottom platform and attach it to the next one

You can move the platforms with ultrahand and pull them towards you, there are two platforms sou could jump from one to another and keep going higher by moving them incresingly higer. Also while climbing up those roots there are some very specific spots that you can stop at and regain stamina.

            He has ultra hand

Get higher up then, climb that tree and ultrahand from there. Or cut down some trees and build a construction that puts you in a higher position for ultrahanding the platform. It's not a hard game but you won't get far unless you learn to think a tiny bit outside of the boxes the game puts you in.

As people have been saying, cut trees if you can. You can use those to get more reach on ultra hand and attach the log to the platform to then grab it.

Enough of your brainlet shitty "solution".
Climbing the root is the right way to get out.

Why didn't you try ultra handing the one you were standing on to move it closer to the other one.

surely time just works differently in zelda games. what if things don't go back in time in the traditional sense?
    >whatever travels in time (lets call this the manipulator) actually goes to the sacred realm
    >the memory of the past travels forwards into the current time within the sacred realm as well (like how the recall ability works)
    >the manipulator then lives life in the universes recalled memory
    >the past that traveled forward in time still needs to be played out until both periods of time overlap
    >if the manipulator dies, they are encapsulated (ala ocarina of time) until they are born when times overlaps
    >if they live until the overlap, they are transferred back to their body
    >once the overlap happens, things return to their state in time wherever and however they were affected by what they did.
    >choosing points in time is basically up to the goddess of hylia based on her omniscience of the greater good
that way multiple things can happen, as they never truly went back in time.
    >inb4 this has flaws too

Can someone explain the time travel shit to me im an idiot i think. How the hell does any of BOTW make any sense, if zelda was yeeted back in time and turned into a dragon for 10000 years till link woke her up again. Why would the mastersword be in the grove in BOTW if zelda had to all along?

      Anonymous

It's in both places at the same time, the grove and the dragon.

      Anonymous

Going back in time creates a second master sword. The first master sword was the one everyone knew about, slept in kokiri forest during the calamity, Link finds in BotW, etc. It gets shattered by Ganondorf and sent back in time, at which point it disappears from existence. Zelda finds it in the past, turns into a dragon and holds onto it throughout the whole history of Hyrule, when Link finds it again in TotK, by which point the first sword is gone and it becomes the only master sword again.

        Anonymous

So are we presuming that the timeline is unpolluted up until Zelda meets with Rauru? I asked because the master sword created by Fi must already exist somewhere in the world by the time Zelda shows up with the corroded Master Sword. Meaning for the 10s of thousands of years Zelda was flying around as a dragon, there were two Master Swords. One that was being repaired by Zelda and the other sleeping in the forest

          >Meaning for the 10s of thousands of years Zelda was flying around as a dragon, there were two Master Swords. One that was being repaired by Zelda and the other sleeping in the forest
Correct, no one noticed the sword sticking out of the dragon's head.

            Anonymous

to be fair it's flying so damn high up that chances are nobody even knew the dragon existed (except the deku tree, who ignored the fact that there were two master swords for thousands of years).

One of the biggest plotholes to me was the spirit templpe "i've been waiting in your purah pad for a long time", that shit was only made like 6 months ago.

              Anonymous

That shit traveled back in time with Zelda. It's older than dragon Zelda.

                Anonymous

oh right, that would explain it. zelda given it from purah, takes it back in time, gives it back to you 10,000 years later through a construct.

              Anonymous

Considering how the deku tree could sense the sword it's absurd no one sensed both in all of history. Only explanation is that the sword wasn't fixed yet until after the original was sent back in time.

I don’t think you understood what I was saying. The master sword disappears from existence when Link sends it back in time, then spends 10k years on Zelda’s head above the clouds, so there are technically two master swords for most of Hyrule’s history, but there’s only one after the intro to TotK.

    >Only a single guardian carcass to remind us they existed at all
    >Even school children in Hateno act as if the Calamity was the one from a thousand years ago and not recent event

There's also problems with history. The idea that there's been a 10,000-year-old gap between the last time Calamity Ganon arose is already a big fricking pill to swallow. That is so God damn long that nobody should even remember that it existed. No civilization that actually saw Calamity Ganon should still be a thing much less their nuclear robots that still work. But now we learn that Ganon not only has always been in Hyrule Castle's basement, but that the royal family knew he was in the basement and that the only thing keeping him locked up down there was each father telling his son to not go in the basement. For 10,000 years. Princess Zelda was the first one in all of that time to disobey her father and go down into the basement which is how Ganondorf got loose. If Calamity Ganon always pops up in the same spot AKA the site of ganondorf's corpse, why the frick did they build Hyrule Castle over his grave? Why is Calamity Ganon a thing at all if Rauru's arm keeps his gloom locked up? What's the difference between Gloom and Malice?

        Anonymous

Gloom is Sacred Stone Dorfs specific power. Malice is his hatred seeping out through Rauru's seal. Also, it's clear that the seal Rauru placed was weakening and the Dorf would have escaped on his own before long

Ganondorf is only killed in a few games. In most, he is sealed at the end and returns in a subsequent game. In one instance, he reincarnates. BotW/TotK seem to be their own continuity as Ganondorf doesn't even have a triforce piece in these games (neither does Link).

        Anonymous

Yea, the triforce didn't seem to exist in this continuity outside of vague emblems. The new magic macguffin are sacred stones

      Anonymous

Well in the original games, he was a reincarnation of Demise.

In BotW/TotK, all the ganon's fought throughout history are just the Dorf's Malice slipping through Rauru's seal

      Anonymous

Skyward sword reveals that it's part of some reincarnation curse but in some games it's the same Ganondorf, for example in Ocarina of Time's Adult Link timeline Ganondorf gets sealed in the sacred realm because he can't die, then this same Ganondorf is the one that is in Windwaker. Twilight Princess Ganondorf is a similar deal since he's the OoT Ganondorf from the Ocarina of Time epilogue timeline where Link goes back in time and Ganondorf's plot gets exposed and he gets executed (and then banished to the Twilight realm because they realize he can't die due to being chosen by the triforce of Power).

      Anonymous

Don’t listen to any of the other people. Ganondorf and Link are stock characters that are reused in (nearly) every Zelda game, there’s no “continuity” between the games outside of the direct sequels.

        >Sacred Stones just awaken whatever power lies dormant within yourself
this could actually explain why it makes TotK ganondorf so OP IF we assume Ganondorf is the incarnation of some previous demon king's hatred. However, we can't safely make that assumption because TotK tells us that Sonia and Rauru, not SS Link and Zelda, established Hyrule.

          Anonymous

Could be a different Hyrule. Also, the Goddess Hylia still exists. Could be that she vanquished Demise prior to the events of Rauru and Sonia and that just got incorporated into their legend

How many times does Hyrule need to be destroyed and recreated from scratch for this game to somehow fit into established lore?

      Anonymous

So Skyward Sword, canonically, is the start of everything. So Hyrule MUST come after Skyloft. Ocarina of Time is the point of the timeline split so that Hyrule has to be the first Hyrule.

Now this is where everything gets confusing because of the fricking timeline split and Nintendo's utter disinterest in giving a definitive history. In one timeline Ganon wins and in response the goddesses flood Hyrule beneath an ocean. So the first Hyrule is gone. A new Link and a new Zelda frick off somewhere else and at least reach a technological point of creating the steam engine. So that would be the second Hyrule.

HOWEVER Rauru in Tears of the Kingdom claims to be the founder and first King of Hyrule. Which completely fricks up what little continuity we had. So we have 2 options here. Either Rauru founded the Hyrule of Ocarina of Time and everyone just forgot about him until, no I'm not kidding, at least greater than 11,000 years later. And the Hyrule of Breath of the Wild is the same one as Ocarina of Time. Or at some indescribable point in the future, there is a third Hyrule that sprouted up after Spirit Tracks.

One of the writers described as History books often getting small details wrong. The big picture is still the same, but the details that add up to it might have been lost to time.

          Anonymous

I'm okay with the idea of History being distorted over vast amounts of time but there are some things that just seem impossible to forget like we remember Princess Ruto by name. The Zora named their Divine Beast after her. But we're not certain that an entire Kingdom was buried under an ocean of water? We know for a fact that the Calamity is named after Ganon. But no one seems to remember where he came from? He's just this thing that bursts from Hyrule Castle randomly unless a fortune teller can call him out early. But simultaneously the Shiekah have surviving instructions on how to use their robot army to gun him down. Maybe I wouldn't be so annoyed at it if the implication is that the events of the prior games are wrong. The people of Skyloft were actually the Zonai this whole time. Skyward Sword is non-canon. And if it isn't then there was an entirely separate race of skypeople that also came down to the surface and established the Kingdom of Hyrule. Independent of that other race of skypeople who also came down to the surface and established the Kingdom of Hyrule.

What's the best base weapons to fuse with? Sturdy sticks seem okay but fairly rare.

Grab a hammer from depths enemies and remove rock. Fuse with Lizalfos horn for decent katana. Also, headshot Lynels to knock them down then mount their backs to do special damage. Does not affect weapon durability

I've mentioned this before but the Zonai are a horribly implemented as a new race and bug the shit out of me.
    >are gods and are revered by primitive Hyrulians
    >are super powered with tear rocks and super technology which they clearly do not share, but hoard for themselves
    >if anything the Hyrulians are forced to worship them because of this
    >the only Hyrulians that benefit are the ones that kneel to, serve, or literally frick Rauru
    >the evidence of this is that this technology was lost to time and only presumably resurrected by the Sheikah (which they were later shunned for)

The game does not go into how overpowered the Zonai are for obvious reasons because that would make Ganondorf look justified for challenging them.

      Anonymous

Admittedly they also seem to be basically dead by the time of Sonia and Rauru's founding of Hyrule. Though how the ancient hero that fought Calamity Ganon is a zonai, then, who fricking knows.

        Anonymous

Even if the Zonai are basically dead except for the two of them, it doesn't make them any less over powered. Rauru probably could have lived forever as an overlord if he wanted to with all that magic power. What was he going to accomplish by ruling over Hyrule anyway? He clearly wasn't hiding how strong he was either. And I don't even want to get into how one tear with Ganondorf overpowered all the other tears for absolutely no logical reason.
        >Ganondorf is evil magic man
Only magic he showed was larping as Zelda which for some reason he really liked to do.

As previously mentioned, the Stones draw out one's latent powers. In Zeldas case, hers are Light and Time (Because descendant of Sonia/Rauru). The stronger the latent power, the greater the amount drawn out. Ganon outright states Rauru could be a God with his powers. Assuming Dorf is still an incarnation of Demise, it would explain the massive power boost

Literally every Zelda takes place after Skyward Sword. And Ganon/dorf isn't an incarnation of Demise, he's basically just an empowered frick spawned by Demise's hatred. Demise's will is long gone, it's just lingering malice.

Possible, but I'm broadly going with the vague notion that BotW is basically just untold eons after any of other games and Hyrule Warriors is why all the timelines seemed to converge. Rauru and Sonia didn't found the very first Hyrule, they founded 'this' Hyrule.

        Anonymous

The problem is that they're a huge part of the setting. The main reason for Zelda's mental block that was keeping her from accessing the power of the goddess is because she was focused on learning about the tools of the Sheikah and technology. The main purpose of Robbie and Purah is that both were trying to figure out the secrets of their Sheikah ancestors. The primary hope of the Kingdom of Hyrule was the Sheikah Guardians. And the primary instrument of Hyrule's fall was the Guardians. Breath of the Wild is wrapped around the Sheikah being the hope of the Kingdom and then that hope being turned against them by the Calamity. You can't just pretend they don't exist now. It's like discussing WW2 and completely ignoring the atomic bomb.

They didn't have to sacrifice gameplay to keep them around you twit. Okay so smash then up then with some of them being entrances to the underground. There. The shrines still exist but are inaccessible because they're no longer relevant to this game. If someone asks, Ganondorf used the Gloom to target Shiekah technology since he was still salty about losing to them in the past. Similar can apply to the Divine Beasts. There. Now TotK doesn't sound like it was written by someone with dementia. Well it does but at least the disappearance of the shrines and beasts now have an explanation

Maybe if the plot of TotK didn't itself create an alternate timeline via literal time travel in a move similar to Ocarina of Time, which is the catalyst for Zelda's timeline shenanigans in the first place, it wouldn't be the easiest explanation for all the discrepancies.

It didn't change anything. Botw and totk are in the same timeline. Botw was happening as Zelda had already visited the past and become a dragon. If you WANT it to be an alternate timeline, then these 2 games are in the timeline where Zelda went back, since those previous events obviously still happened.

She didn't change anything though. In ocarina of time, things were changed. A world where link physically left the timeline and left a ruined future without a hero, a fresh past where he arrested ganondorf, and a ruined past that let Ganon run rampant for more than just 7 years (downfall).

She was part of her own history, and didn't leave a timeline to live in another one. It's a closed loop, unlike oot

so does the story contradict OoT and its sequels? TotK's imprisoning war is totally different than what was depicted earlier. Same with Ganondorf's beginning.

The flavor text means nothing and I think those are just broadly "legends" of heroes past, cause there was older heroes, but overall this is a totally different universe.

Hey, maybe there's some sort of ocarina style story to be told in the far past of this universe, since this is a combination of ganondorfs rise to power and the imprisoning war

Very easily. A version of that story happened in the past, but obviously NOT the one we know since ganondorf was born and defeated in a completely different way in a Hyrule ruled by a goat

That's not "very easily", that's pointing to events that are impossibly far in the past from Breath's perspective but still ahead of Ocarina. For some reason you're deliberately not parsing that it's a different Hyrule and Ganon.

Botw and totk are in a different universe. Ganondorf was born in a time when Hyrule was first founded, founded by a goat. He was imprisoned.

Some time later a hero fricked a zora and it became legend and you see it in botw. Oot as it is did not and could not happen in these games.

Not in the least. See, this is why I was trying to make sure you understood, because you obviously don't.

I'm saying he's NOT the same ganondorf. I'm saying he's the ORIGINAL ganondorf of this reality. He's NOT a reincarnation of demise, he does NOT have the triforce of power. I'm saying NONE OF THE OLD GAMES HAPPENED IN THIS REALITY and they take place in an alternate universe.

I'm also saying he can't be the old ganondorf because he is, in every single instance, the SAME man. Every time he dies, he is resurrected. He is not ever reborn. So I'm saying this isn't him, and not him reborn either.

Now, it's not like it can't be him reborn finally and without the triforce of power (since that wasn't part of the cycle), but it definitely isn't and nothing says it is

It depends, the armors for example I think are references because of their former existence as amiibo exclusive drops, but I find it harder to to believe that monuments in the game world to these characters are nothing but a reference.

It's just that overtly they don't fit and actively, with totk, retcon older games.

So I'm more comfortable saying it's an alternate universe and any and all references are to old heroes (that came after rauru seals ganondorf) but NOT old games. So if mipha tells link that in the past a hylian hero fertilized the eggs of a zora queen, that's NOT oot link. It might be a link, but not an event from oot

                Anonymous

That can't be, because in BotW
                >Fi's voice can be heard in the master sword by Zelda
                >The stone slabs around Zora's domain details events of Ocarina of Time involving Princess Ruto

the rito existing (be that as it may) and holding medli in a high light + hyrule having rock salt in every single ore vein all the way up to death mountain points towards wind waker having happened and the great sea fully drained over time too

iirc there's a reference to twlight princess during the knighting ceremony for link in a botw flashback

really what you're seeing are posters that are adamant about one of two possibilities
                >1) it's an alternate universe or reboot, which requires ignoring every single other overt zelda reference, including voiced lines
                >2) it's a retcon, which we know it's not because of the counterargument of point 1

the easiest explanation is just that it's at the ass end of the timeline, none of the hyrule historia's timelines were heavily considered in making either botw or totk, and it features a new reincarnation of ganondorf, which for some reason is an impossible outcome to these kinds of posters despite link and zelda always reincarnating no i don't give a frick that it's "the spirit of the hero" or whatever, there is always a link and always a zelda and they always have the same features and roughly the same station in life

i really don't get what the point is of these posters trying to overcomplicate the story to avoid the easiest and most likely outcome, but if i understood why they were so intent on making things harder on themselves and others, i probably wouldn't be on an anime imageboard on a sunday afternoon

                Anonymous

New reincarnation of Ganon(dorf) isn't even impossible. It's happened before. He fricking dies in Twilight Princess for good, and then another Ganon, a new reincarnation, shows up in Four Swords Adventures. He just doesn't usually die so it's usually the same guy. Turns out 'Master Sword through the vital organ' is enough to actually put him down for good.

                Anonymous

yeah the adamantly thick-headed posters are hovering in an odd periphery where they're trying to defend hyrule historia to the death but they're also ignoring a lot of key points to it

i think they're being moronic on purpose since they've been at it for weeks with these very specific interpretations of the game's story, and this thread alone already had one Black person pull the "oh, well, this is my first post here, so i guess somebody came to the same conclusion :)" song and dance

Like, everything to explain it being at the end of the timeline has precedent. Creating a Champion outright says "hey these old stories have faded into myth it's been so long", there's precedent for a new Ganon and a precedent for a new Hyrule, etc.

It's more like BotW and thus TotK seem to be WAY off in the future from any other Zelda game. It's so far in the future that it had a whole-ass ancient civilisation that rose and fell between it and any other latest one. The Zonai ONLY exist in BotW/TotK, there's zero reference to them at all in any other game, so either there's somehow an absurdly massive timegap between OOT's Downfall timeline and LttP happening (which doesn't make sense because that'd mean there were two Ganondorfs because TotK Dorf is so clearly not the same as OOT's, and having two doesn't seem to be a 'thing' that can happen with how Demise's curse works, the Downfall timeline even already has a new Ganon showing up in Four Swords Adventures after he dies in Twilight Princess). You could just shrug and say "eh it's just another universe/continuity" or whatever, and that's fine, but Creating a Champion outright says basically all of the prior Zelda games have 'faded to myth' which I think lends more credence to the notion that the Wild duology is just FAR after everything else.

            Anonymous

It could be like in the remake of The Time Machine (movie) from like 2005 or whenever it was. So much time has past that a new civilisation is built literally on top of the old one. So, maybe the Hylians evolved into goat people and then back into humans again?

              Anonymous

I'm gonna assume the Zonai were basically just chilling way back when, or arose somewhere else. Frick it, they evolved from the weird bird things in Twilight Princess, I dunno, they seem to be just as weird a chimeric mishmash of animals as the birds were. Zonai didn't come from Hylians, they just kind of happened independently I guess.

You know, the idea that the Zonai are just ancient Hylians isn't a bad heacanon. We've already had fish people evolve into bird people and now the two just sort of co-exist. Zonai being some Yakub bullshit somehow makes them a bit more palatable.

I'm more surprised they didn't turn into crabs

I think it's a cop out to say, "rook itsu justu SUPA fa inu futuru". I think maybe that was the explanation for botw but totk is absolutely in a totally different continuity. As you said, that's a totally different dorf. I think NOW it's solidly a different continuity where the old games are myths ONLY and not actual past events that have been forgotten. I think any references are to unrelated (to old game) events that are just similar. I think this is the end point of a NEW universe and now we have a blank slate of untolds amount of time before totk where heroes definitely existed at different points but did NOT fight ganondorf, who would have been sealed by rauru far far far far far under the castle

              Anonymous

Totally different Dorf doesn't mean it's a new continuity. Four Swords Adventures shows a new Ganon CAN just show up. It's not unreasonable it happened again. Triforce's absence outside of Zelda's royalty powers I can't explain, but maybe it's just a broad "frick it, the Triforce doesn't work like it did anymore because the Goddesses got fed up".

Well it's either a reincarnated ganondorf that's somehow mirroring past events like imprisoning war and pretending fealty to the king of Hyrule to betray him to seize power, or an alternate universe.

It feels wrong for them to walk the same steps. They do ALL the time but the SAME story from oot? Feels like even they wouldn't do that if it was meant to be the same character and not a new one

I mean it's not really the same story as OOT. It follows the broadly same beginning, but he's completely seen through and only gets away with it because Rauru is stupid enough to believe in keeping your enemies close.

BotW fit the original timeline just fine. It was TotK that came along and said the formation of Hyrule and the Imprisoning War were actually part of the same generation and thus Ocarina of Time couldn't have happened in this version of Hyrule, despite BotW making direct reference to it.

BotW/TotK are just set an arbitrary number of cycles ahead from the previous games. Hyrule's been destroyed and re-founded multiple times and the current iteration was founded by goatfrickers. The details added in TotK awkward and a little retcon-y, but BotW was always supposed to be set way way ahead of the other games.
That said, I can't help but wonder if this is another instance of details getting butchered in translation and blowing up moderate retcons way bigger than they should be.

      Anonymous

It just seems odd for them to place an arbitrarily large number like 10k years between this kingdom's founding and the events of BotW, and still expect this to all happen an indescribably long time after the events of the previously established timeline, when certain events from that original timeline are still occasionally referenced.

Some shit just lingers throughout time because people realise it's important. That Hylia is a literal present force as a goddess means it's not that weird she continues to be worshiped, for example. Sometimes things are just references, sometimes they're just remnants of a long-lost history.

That's literally what the Zonai were in BotW before TotK decided to use that small bit of world building as the basis for the plot of a sequel.

Fair enough, but Skyward Sword didn't get a sequel and it's incredibly unlikely we'll get anything about how Demise was sealed away to begin with, because that's "outside" the scope of the series, so to speak. Skyward Sword is how Zelda, Link, the Master Sword and Ganon(dorf) came to be, functionally. Some games stray from that more or less, sure, but they rarely go completely outside of it.

/vg/ is full of trannies and mentally unstable morons, depending on the game, most of us avoid /vg/ and you'll often see both boards at odds with each other.

i like to think that now botw link takes the place of the "fallen hero". They make it clear that originally Zelda wasn't in the past before, so probably originally Link was unable to use the master sword ot stright up died with zelda in that cave

There's exactly one line from Rauru indicating that's the case and most of the plot revolves around Rauru being too arrogant to kill Ganondorf straight away, when he had Ganondorf pegged immediately and Zelda gave him numerous warnings

You SPECIFICALLY said she WASNT originally in the past and that link died without a master sword, and when pressed, you said rauru said one line proving it

So uhhhh what the frick did we accomplish in BotW if Ganondorf is still alive under the castle?

      Somehow Ganondorf returned

The Ganon we fought in BOTW is the physical manifestation of how fricking pissed Ganondorf is while being sealed away, mixed together with his magic in order to hold itself together, thus the name of his power, "Malice".

Zelda told the sages of each kingdom to be prepared to reawaken in the era from which she herself hailed so Link would have an army to fight Ganondorf, then made herself immortal to deliver an almighty version of the Master Sword that can survive Gloom back to us.

It astonishes me people care about Zelda lore.
There's no great plan, the games are absolutely NOT connected to each other in any meaningful way, it's all just after-the-fact justifications for whatever mythos they wanted to introduce this time, before having link kill ganon with the help of zelda's magic.
Stop wasting your time trying to rationalize the irrelevant. It's nonsense.

It's not just Zelda. Fans always care way more about autistic minutia than the people that make the products. Star Wars is a good example, they just make shit up constantly to sell more movies but the fan wiki has articles longer than the Bible on the lore of some background character with no lines. The passion can be endearing to a point but after that point it's just mental illness

    >Riju still reveres Urbosa
    >the Rito already forgot Revali
Did I miss some dialogue? Bird brains completely forgot the giant mecha bird, too.

Revali was an assbag and not actually held in high esteem beyond being "their greatest warrior + Vah Medoh's pilot"

Vah Medoh is still referenced, one woman points out the bird perch of their home village and refers to it as Vah Medoh's Perch

To be fair, isn't Urbosa Riju's mom or something? She would want to live up to her late mother as ruler. Revali had no descendants, had an abrasive personality, and never ruled over anyone. Teba and Tulin wouldn't care about living up to him specifically, they just want to help their village on principle

"Descendant" so Urbosa is probably her great-grandmother or great-great-grandmother

Urbosa is her ancestor, vaguely defined.
