Did you happen to attend PAX last week? The selection of retro games was insane.

      No, did you?
I didn't even know what it was until I googled it 5 minuted ago. Funny how that is seeing as how it's 20 minutes from me. Not that I would go anyway, I don't leave my basement

I did, but only because I was gifted a badge. One corner was dedicated to retro games. Pinball machines, arcade machines, row after row of retro computers and consoles... all available to play for free! There was another separate arcade area mixing some old stuff with some newer stuff, but it was a lot harder finding an unoccupied machine.
Overall, it was a completely unparalleled experience. It might be worth leaving your basement for it next year.

Cool, sounds like a good day...i wouldn't know where to begin there....
as a fellow Melbourne man, what's your perspective on the gaming scene? In particular the retro gaming scene? Are you a buygay or do you just emulate? I slurp new and old shit, for old shit I just use fb marketplace, gumtree and cash converters.

I believe there's only one retro game store in Melbourne in reservoir, been there a few times, overpriced but the owner has a disk resurfacing machine. I need a crt tho, don't have one. I'm 29 btw, not a zoomer.

What's your thought on pvms, they want about 1k for Sony one close by.... Should I slurp? Regular CRTs are 50 dollars

PVMs are a nice but for the money they're a meme. Get a post '99 crt with trinitron licensed display in a managable size, with your desired inputs and you'll be more than satisfied. I've got a 14' Teac CT-M3442H and its more than sufficient.

Will do, I don't mind paying 50 to 100 for a consumer sony crt.

whatever brand you buy make sure the display has a vertical line pattern and not a honeycomb pattern at the very least.

I'm guessing by honeycomb you mean horizontal. I've noticed most are horizontal, vertical is rare. I don't really see why one is better than the other

its splitting hairs but the vertical line/trinitron displays appear crisp and tighter

I think the scene is pretty abysmal, which is why I found the classic game area at PAX so surprising. I’ve seen plenty of retro game shops come and go. There was even an arcade fairly close to my house, which I only got to visit once before it closed.
Sometimes I buy, sometimes I emulate. Depends on how much the game is and if I already own the respective system.
Personally I don’t understand the appeal of PVMs, considering their cost and how long they are compared to consumer TVs. Any old CRT TV is good enough for me. But hey, I’m not you. Do you believe that’s a good investment? If you think you’ll like it and not regret it, then go for it.

CIB though. I agree 2000 seems a bit steep but it's complete. Depending on the condition of the box, I'd say it may be worth it. I'm autistic, as in clinical. Things like boxes matter to me. Pic related

The aud is worthless, its complete, clean, and ships domestically. But still, only tempted.

Fair enough, I'll buy it then just so I can post it on this board

I don't know if they'll get that much.

On an ebay BIN that sits around for months to wait for a buyer with money bags, maybe, but definitely not locally.

Yeah, you have to remember alot of people test the waters and high ball their listing's. I do the same because I'm in no rush to sell. Obviously I expect an offer considerably less. But hey, if an idiot comes along so be it

I think you'd need to get more out of it than just play games if you were to drop 2000 on it.

      Or idk that's my opinion.

This, OP, is the system that had the best version of Marble Madness purely because of it's soundtrack:

Unless it runs in 60fps and has mouse support, best version still goes to x68000. I'll have to download this to find out, as I'm sure no one here fricking knows. Great music, though, I'll give you that.

looks like it has everything the x68k version has. Neat, thanks.

One of the shittier Japanese computers, honestly. It has like a scant few barely-definitive versions of some western games and Alltynex. It's pretty redundant otherwise. Prove me wrong, anons.

Why are japanese computers so hard to find?

the Sharp X68000 and FM towns come up for sale pretty often whereas I've been looking for a picrel for like a year now and I have not seen *any* come up for sale at all.

But nobody seems to give a shit about them so I'd imagine they end up getting tossed anyways.

        Anonymous

They were expensive new, aren't held up by a western coomlector market, and the Japanese didn't really seem to care about keeping them.

I hope to find one some day 🙁

Unlike most japanese computers, they were sold on the European and North American markets, but finding one of those is almost impossible now. They didn't sell to well in those markets but the fact that there are almost no traces of them ever existing outside of japan is fascinating to me.

Most Unix workstations end up this way unless it was from a major vendor. Unobtanium.
