The Dungeons in Daggerfall are awful, I had more fun playing even older games like Eye of the Beholder or Ultima Underworld because those games featured actual level design and not computer generared shit.
My bros were all up into Morrowind and none of us had ever heard of Gothic so when I found it at the store on the cheap one day and picked it up it was a excellent distraction from the hours we were sinking into Morrowind at the time.
it's a decent game but Morrowind's better. I would probably enjoy Daggerfall too if I was born when games like it was the norm.
I liek Morrowind too but Gothic is better for me because world feels a tad bit more real, and combat system is better. but both are great games tbh.

I was 3yo when G1 came out and first two Gothics always were my fav games

>not having ton of ui on your screen >no handholding, you have to be over 85iq to solve some quests >you arent turbo powerfull from the get go >no minimap >hurr durrr bad gamellay
It's eurojank. It was only ever appreciated by europeans and it will never have a glorious return. They were good times while they lasted but we should all move forward and stop worrying about old games.
fighting in Risen 1 is the best one PB ever designed tbh. also when you compare lores you will realize that Risen 1 is the*REAL* Gothic 4
explorantion is almost always good in PB games because everything is handcrafted
I found the exploration and quests in Risen 2 a bit disappointing, maybe because the world wasn't interconnected like in the previous games and only consisting of small and smallish islands. Also, everyone running around with firearms all of the sudden was weird too.
Risen 1 is fine to play on its own, they completely changed the world lore and redesigned the main characters with each game. Actually the lack of continuity was one of Risen's problems. Was nothing like going to Gothic 2 from 1 where you recognised all the old characters and places in the colony.

Rise 2 turns the game world into a lame version of the Caribbean full of colonialists with muskets, vodoo magic, and native tribes. It's bizarre.
What the frick even happened to the lizardmen from the previous game?
This, PB is running on fumes since more than a decade. I don't understand how they managed to unlearn on how to make their games after almost getting everything right with R1.
no. the events before Risen 1 are the events at the ending of Gothic 3 >"unknown mage" and "unknown hero" ~~*totally not xardas and nameless*~~ btfo gods from existence >greg((arius)) the pirate capitan >lizard "Mayan" people from G2 are in R1
>Gets blow the frick out by a farmer and his fork >Bodyguard in front of a building beats the shit out of you barehandedly and makes you run for your life >NPC doesn't find you funny, beats the shit of you and takes your money
SOVL
love these german to eastern europe games where you re not the hero, with a long period at the start of the game where you can barely kill any animal and try to make it progressively
And then you do something kinda heroic at the end of 1 but he outcome is at least as negative as it is positive lol, Nameless never tells anyone that he is the reason the bandits are running free and frick everything up
Not even mentioning what you can (or have to?) do at the end of 2 to get off the island
I mean the pallies were kind of an butthole too and their mission to the valley was basically suicidal from the start. Also all of the island got overrun by orcs in gothic 3 as a tie up to multiple choice bullshit.
>Arrive at bridge guards >Ask them if that's the camp >they say no, the camp is under the bridge >dialogue ends, have a good laugh >act snarky to the actual camp guards >get beaten
lmao
If anyone's having trouble enjoying the parts of the game they actually like - or even seeing them - just see Gothic 1 as the pet project of some friends who actually hacked together an engine for their game
Like, I understand the combat is pretty shit but they made a game with stuff you rarely see otherwise >tfw you may genocide the guards in chapter 4
>mogs TES games
not great thing to boast because even Fable got more enjoyable combat. Kill cam in Skyrim was a neat addition though, does PB have that in it's later release?
I'd interpret the "limitations" of the Gothic 1 combat - targeting only one at a time, somewhat slow speed to change between weapons, inability to press a hotkey for potions etc - as a way to describe the Nameless Hero isn't exactly a combat machine and the game offers plenty of ledges to cheese fights from
Did any of you play Elex 2?
I was so mad at PB for releasing it on the same fricking week as Elden Ring, that I didn't even buy it and save it for later.
No, I gave Elex 1 two chances and dropped it both times and will never bother with these games again. I replayed Gothic 1 and 2 instead with some mods.
I'm a huge PB fan, but I was obsessed with Elden Ring for weeks after it came out. Gigantic releases of the same genre like that should impact the release dates of smaller titles imo. I don't understand how this isn't a well established science of marketing at this point. >Your fanbase is busy doing other things right now, let's wait with the release a bit.
It's more like 1 step ahead, one step back >Gothic 2 is an improvement over Gothic 1 >Gothic 3 has problems >Risen 1 is an improvement over Gothic 3 >Risen 2 has problems >Risen 3 is an improvement over Risen 2 (but still not that great)
And so on.
it not garbage, we just got introduced to better game. Like if you ate oatmeal for your entire life and only know about it and someone introduce you to a good chicken rotisserie you'd hardly RETVRN to your oatmeal no matter how many hacks you make for your oatmeal you'd still incline to try other dishes.
Allow me a rant here (which you may easily ignore). I confess that to this day I only finished Gothic 1 once, and that was during full daylight, because of the undead in Gothic.
The Undead in Gothic are terrifying due to a combination of the graphics and deliberate SOUNDS. >zombies
they gurgle and push stagnant air out of their lungs when they see you, like some vestigial desire to talk, then they fricking wobble and hitting them produces that sound effect of cutting hard, putrid flesh >skeleton
they don't fricking make a sound, apart from the light bone rubbing via running >mage
half a skeleton that just floats there and calls the gang
I distinctly remember running the FRICK out of the fog tower after nearly shitting my pants thanks to the skeletons there
Later if you do that book quest and open the last book in the Fog Tower that fricking laugh can make you shit your pants, summon your own skeletons in advance
>random ass morons managed to make Archolos and it's excellent >PB releases Elex 2 and it's even more of a disaster than Elex 1
put them out of their misery
Björn Pankratz is the only one left but he joined very late during Gothics development, was basically a glorified beta tester and somehow he owns the company now
Brüggemann is dead, Hoge, Nyul, and Putzki left. Dworczak and Pankratz are still there. I don't think any of the other members had a big influence over the design of G1.
I enjoyed Gothic 1 when I played it a few years ago but I dropped Gothic 2 after returning from the Valley of the Mines. It just felt like too much of the same, even if seeing the valley again was cool. The expansion area was pretty sweet at least.
played this on W7 before moving onto 10 after my previous PC crashed. The original discs work on W7, something tech-related is seriously fricking with your groove if your W7 isn't playing nice
The game is rough and tough but there is a reason people remember it
If Gothic 1 doesn't work you can try the sequel, lotta improvements and you won't miss too much.
it's a decent game but Morrowind's better. I would probably enjoy Daggerfall too if I was born when games like it was the norm.

Morrowind is your generic high fantasy setting, Gothic is more down to earth, matter of taste, but I like the Gothic games a lot more than TES.
Not everyone wants to play as Jacksepticeye.
>TOP A DA MORNIN, LADDIE!
who
I liek Morrowind too but Gothic is better for me because world feels a tad bit more real, and combat system is better. but both are great games tbh.
I was 3yo when G1 came out and first two Gothics always were my fav games
What the frick are you talking about
My bros were all up into Morrowind and none of us had ever heard of Gothic so when I found it at the store on the cheap one day and picked it up it was a excellent distraction from the hours we were sinking into Morrowind at the time.
id rather play even witcher 1 over gothic's bottom of the barrel combat
this, I think I've cut 1/5 of my mouse lifespan playing Gothic 1
I know what it sounds like, but play it with keyboard. its so much better
combat is good if you arent moronic. Im witcher 1 you just click, in Gothic you have to dodge, parry and use different attacks
or you could just back off and up click until the game wouldn't let you (by having a 2nd enemy from behind)
The gameplay is horrendous, you're just a contrarian trying to look unique
>not having ton of ui on your screen
>no handholding, you have to be over 85iq to solve some quests
>you arent turbo powerfull from the get go
>no minimap
>hurr durrr bad gamellay
Most of what you said isnt even gameplay you worthless contrarian
but those are the things that filter zoomer phoneposters like you
It's eurojank. It was only ever appreciated by europeans and it will never have a glorious return. They were good times while they lasted but we should all move forward and stop worrying about old games.
well I hope the remake will be good but I'm afraid they will dumb it down so zoomers can play it
It filtered the frick out of millenials as well
I wish the first Risen had a more interesting setting, I really like the exploration and fighting in that game for reasons I can't really explain.
fighting in Risen 1 is the best one PB ever designed tbh. also when you compare lores you will realize that Risen 1 is the*REAL* Gothic 4

yes Risen 2 is failed experiment.
>explorantion is almost always good in PB games because everything is handcrafted
Didn't that stop with Elex?
No but it's still shit. Any PB game after Risen 1 is.
Knowing that made me drop Risen 1 despite liking it because I didnt want to get invested in a series that becomes shit after the first game
Risen 3 is good
Risen 1 is fine to play on its own, they completely changed the world lore and redesigned the main characters with each game.
They got removed cause everybody hates Liggers.
This, PB is running on fumes since more than a decade. I don't understand how they managed to unlearn on how to make their games after almost getting everything right with R1.
>I don't understand how they managed to unlearn on how to make their games
It's not the old team anymore
Elex is handcrafted too
I liek elec
Risen is the real Gothic 2.
Gothic isn't even a real game and Risen 1 is the real Gothic 1
no. the events before Risen 1 are the events at the ending of Gothic 3
>"unknown mage" and "unknown hero" ~~*totally not xardas and nameless*~~ btfo gods from existence

Nameless can be kind of an butthole. Remember you can open the gate and doom the paladins just to get one guy onboard.
I mean the pallies were kind of an butthole too and their mission to the valley was basically suicidal from the start. Also all of the island got overrun by orcs in gothic 3 as a tie up to multiple choice bullshit.

combat system maybe not the greatest ever created but it still mogs TES games and first witcher
>mogs TES games
not great thing to boast because even Fable got more enjoyable combat. Kill cam in Skyrim was a neat addition though, does PB have that in it's later release?
>not great thing to boast
well I mean its one if not the most popular rpg series so mogging your rival is something
>most popular rpg series
yeah but TES was known for its lore, something Risen came too late to catch up on.
I'd interpret the "limitations" of the Gothic 1 combat - targeting only one at a time, somewhat slow speed to change between weapons, inability to press a hotkey for potions etc - as a way to describe the Nameless Hero isn't exactly a combat machine and the game offers plenty of ledges to cheese fights from

yeah your right
Its 6/10 to 7.5/10 if you are PB fan
If PB have been making the same game for 30 years and they never improve and the new games are shit does that mean Gothic was always garbage?
It's more like 1 step ahead, one step back
>Gothic 2 is an improvement over Gothic 1

Not at all, PB could never top Gothic 2. They can't even make a game without a minimap now because of zoomers.
Sad, those maps you have to pull out of your inventory are peak soul.
How do I get this slav shit running?
GOG copy or download and install the system pack on top of the OG version
I did used GOG copy & it still wouldn't run.
That is ... strange. I'm using W10 and it worked just like that after I installed it in D (so not the Windows partition).
https://www.gog.com/forum/gothic_series/gothic_wont_start
A general fix is that the shortgun the installer makes sometimes doesn't work. My apology for not assisting you further
Oh no worries, I'm already in the middle of Arcanum & Midgard. Thanks for trying anyhow.
>slav
It's still krautjank like Sacred or Spellforce.
>Spellforce
great game, wish it could improve the movement speed too. It was a decent game for Warlord Battlecry itch
run with compatibility to win xp. also I highly recommend dx11 for better graphics
>making a mod in 2021 for a game from 2001
Quite amazing how many zombie variations they made to keep things ... uh, fresh
I was spooked by the zombies in gothic more than any other games though, something so eerie about them.
Same lol and that scream, damn
>gives you nightmares
I didn't do the dumb video gamey approach of ... actually approaching them and instead just fricking nuked them as soon as I saw them
Years later I found on youtube what happens if you actually talk to them, and that apparently they were people from the sect camp
Allow me a rant here (which you may easily ignore). I confess that to this day I only finished Gothic 1 once, and that was during full daylight, because of the undead in Gothic.

Hello, pretty girl.
Hmm, just where did you escape from?
Finding a warg in one of those forests near Khorinis in chapter 1 made me almost jump out of my chair.
>random ass morons managed to make Archolos and it's excellent
>PB releases Elex 2 and it's even more of a disaster than Elex 1
put them out of their misery
Aren't everyone involved in the creation of the original gothic dead?
Björn Pankratz is the only one left but he joined very late during Gothics development, was basically a glorified beta tester and somehow he owns the company now
Brüggemann is dead, Hoge, Nyul, and Putzki left. Dworczak and Pankratz are still there. I don't think any of the other members had a big influence over the design of G1.
Stupid fricking game won't even run, This gonna be just like Chrono Trigger sum shit game that's been overhyped.
I uninstalled G1 twice before I played through as the fps was ass and the controls was anal
Then I played start to finish
I'm working on it.
I gotta reinstall in a different spot.
I enjoyed Gothic 1 when I played it a few years ago but I dropped Gothic 2 after returning from the Valley of the Mines. It just felt like too much of the same, even if seeing the valley again was cool. The expansion area was pretty sweet at least.
My Windows 7 won't let me run the game.
It's for the best, The game looks like trying to squeeze blood from a stone.
Anon, I ...
