I'm not a zoomer, but I do it when I'm too tired to play anything myself. I don't watch games that I want to play though, it's either games I've already played or games I will never play. I dont want to be spoiled on anything I'm actually interested in.

I never liked it even during NEET life, I just play myself.

I'm 35. I RARELY stoop down to Twitch, but sometimes I'll check it out when drunk/bored for a chat, but it will only be niche games like old-school ones with 0-10 people playing so you can actually have a chat with people.

I watch completionist runs of games from people who knows what are they doing so i wont torture myself even trying and still see all of it.

As for watching a moron lets player getting lost for 20 minutes and doing cuts on their videos every 5 minutes because they need to watch a guide to do shit like the claw or skyrim puzzles... thats what i dont understand.

I wonder this a lot too. I'm 42 and matched with a chick my age on a dating app and I completely lost interest when she told me she was big into streaming on twitch. I'm not sure what exactly is wrong with that, but something is, and I wasn't going to find out.

Millenials, what’s the appeal of watching podcasts?
Boomers, what’s the appeal of listening to radio shows?
They are all the same thing. Background noise while you do something else.

      >They are all the same thing. Background noise while you do something else.
thats simply not true. If you dont listen to podcasts or radio shows which discuss and review products you will be uninformed and you also wont be able to talk to your buddy about what they mentioned on that show (assuming he listens or watches too)

You're right, but what about the people in the chat of streams spamming variations of:
      >W
      >L
      >Cringe
      >Based
      >POGGERS
For the people active in the chat and typing things based on what happening in the stream it's definitely not background noise anymore.

It is simple. I do not go to those streams.
Smaller streams are comfy af -- find a nice niche of 10-30 people, get to know everyone, and it's a nice place where everybody knows your name

I only watch LPs of either games I've already played, mainly cause I think it's interesting to see other people's reactions to certain segments, or games I'm on the fence on getting to see what someone who's not a journalist or deep enough into the game to do a walkthrough/guide thinks of it. Helps me decide on a purchase seeing a "normal" person play through the early stages.

It's cool to see people react to stuff you're familiar with and have your views either validated or challenged in unexpected ways.
Seeing someone get excited over something you got excited about once is a really good feeling cause it gives more legitimacy to your own feelings.

to the OP, not a zoomer but I can understand watching brief plays or summaries of games that might be interesting but which I wouldn't necessarily want to play myself. I watch very, very few game related videos, but I watched most of Ross's Game Dungeon because he played some genuinely neat games that just looked too painful to actually put myself through

Everything new is a forced meme

Memes were never meant to last forever. Holding on to frogs is a sign of immaturity, you only use it because it's comfortable. It's like eating chicken nuggets everyday because you like it. Scared to try anything new. Scared of change. Scared of stepping a little bit outside your comfort zone. You cling to a dead medium because it's all you know

Average middle class zoomer here, I don't own a computer and don't have tbe money or space for a console or TV. I watch a bunch of let's plays and live vicariously through the players. If I like a game enough I research wikis and imagine how I would play through the game.
If I could play Elden Ring, I'd probably try a dex/faith build with the scimitar. It doesn't have much reach or stagger from what I've seen but the moveset is really stylish.

It's not appeal, its their attention spans. They literally don't have the attention spans to actually play a game for themselves. They need that constant stimulation from someone talking and interacting.
