I can unironically see this happening - and publishers will be glad cause g get can sell your the hardware on top for an extra margin. Of course the SSDs will be hardlocked so you cannot use them for anything but the game. Oh and don't forget the 100gb day1 dl on top of it all
Are you stupid? How have you not realized SSD costs go down constantly, all computer parts do and always have b gone.
Just 15 years ago a 200 gb external hdd cost two hundred bucks. Now a 2 TB SSD is 80 bucks. By the time games are 1+ TB size and require to be sold in external SSDs, these 2 tb SSD will be worth like 20 bucks tops.
>is that mean game will be sold as physical copies again?
Yes. >is that also mean I can buy used game again?
No. You'll still need an internet connection to get past their DRM. Moreover it's very antisemitic to want to buy pre-owned.
Most "AAA" games are around 100gb now and if I remember correctly the projection puts AAA games at like 800gb in a decade from now, not counting the small numbers of outliers (like CoD already pushing 200gb). So 5 years is too short to reach that amount, maybe we'll see 400-500gb in 5 years though. Personally I think GTA6 will demand well above 200gb on release, considering RDR2 is like 150gb.. 2-3 years from now that number will be well above 300gb
tbh being poor is one thing but the issue with most 3rd world shitholes is that they vote in leftists to tax the shit out of everything in hopes that that will make them not poor and then are surprised that 50% import tax, for some completely mysterious reason, makes their imported stuff 50% more expensive
Nah they changed this when they separated the games, they haven't announced PoE 2's endgame other than it will still have a map system where you can roll the zones mods with currency items.
They're redoing the whole lore/atlas system with something brand new and unique.
What's the deal with this game? Apparently they're going to be releasing updates for 1 & 2. Why aren't they just committing to the newer game? It sounds like they're afraid it's going to flop and will fallback to the original.
1 is beloved and will be supported but 2 is new hotness, ppl will play and love both. no poe fan wants 1 to disappear. they have enough money to have 2 teams now
not really the greatest example but its kinda like what Blizzard is doing with Classic+ and Retail. It's basically just two separate games at this point but mostly using the same engine and mechanics.
>Why aren't they just committing to the newer game?
Too many drastic changes, it's basically a new game with how different the systems are in the sequel.
Also it's good thing they're splitting the game. I can think of many games that have ruined by massive patches like this. Whether PoE2 is shit remains to be seen, but at least the choice of going back is still there.
>hdd are just for storage these days
SSDs are better for storage too, the prices keep dropping. I replaced the HDDs in my PC and the lack of noise is amazing. Those things are really loud
I couldn't get into PoE1 because of the counterintuitive systems. How am I supposed to test builds when I gotta grind my ass off to actually put them into play. Everyone ends up using the same cookie cutter build made by the same guy who only plays PoE and nothing else.
Whats the issue? most modern games are larger than this. >Muh isometric view = low quality or something to zoomers
It's still a fully 3D rendered game.
They're not larger. Even the vast majority of modern open world games aren't bigger than 100GBs, despite how close they are to that threshold. For example Hogwarts is listed at 85GB and Elden Ring at 60GB. Not even the biggest MMOs like WoW and ESO are larger than 100GB, at least if you only look at the system spec notes. This is just the typical bloatware phenomenon that's been happening in gaming for years
Also, I really wish people learned what isometric actually means
Well normaly I would say lazy devs and shit. But knowing GGG and bald fricking moron, I believe uncompressed assets give 10-20x performance increase, considering how shit they are at writing engines
While technically being "first world" it is fricking hell to buy a pc in europe. Half of my salary is taken for tax, another quarter is for rent and everything has +20% to the price because of VAT. I also need to save for initial payment of mortgage, so I stop rentslaving.
I seriously doubt you are actually European because then you would know Europe is not a country, it's over 50 different countries, each with their own tax rates and laws. It may be difficult to own a pc in some Slavic shithole (which absolutely no one calls first world), but literally every person can afford a gaming pc in like 80% of European countries and afford to regularly upgrade it with new parts.
i just uninstall the games i dont play when im done with them for a while, then reinstall them later.
the only two games (aside from emulator shit which is like 10GB total for a bunch of stuff) i have permanently installed are dota and planetside 2.
i install poe in like 7 minutes, why is this a problem? do you have shit internet?
I have 2x 2TB of 8000 MB/S read/write SSDs and 16 TB WD Red.
This entire thing cost me 250$. And the best part is you can start with one 80$ 2TB SSD and work your way up as you get money.
Like why is storage ever an issue on a PC? Ever?
Since I remember I always had like 2x 4GB HDDs, then I had a mix of 240 GB, 80 GB and 40 GB, then I had 3x400 GB, then I had 2x256GB + 1x512 GB SSD + 2 TB HDD.
And now finally I'm at the above. Storage on PCs never costs more then 100$ and games were 50~100$ as long as I can remember. Just pirate 2 games and you can afford storage wow.
I get it if it's for a free camera first person or 3rd person view game where you will see stuff up close and see details
But for an isometric game it's absurd
Would be cool if they allowed for proper over the shoulder third person cam because why not?
I doubt it's gonna be practical, but it's really not difficult to enable just for the novelty factor. And who knows? Maybe the game is even more fun that way?
I played PoE two leagues ago on RX580 at 1440p it wasn't pretty but it was "playable"
This game has aggressive resolution scaling turned on by default, when I ran THICC maps game rendered at ~480p. I have new GPU now so I don't care about the requirements.

I played 3 leagues on my Steam Deck and have no regrets. In fact full controller support for poe made me buy the steam deck in the first place.
This is why I used "Quotes", by the time you will need those tabs you will already get through campaign. Acts alone will filter nearly everyone and for the first playthrough it will take them, I don't know 30-40 hours?
So in that aspect it's free, but that is just a tip of the iceberg. I don't know how much € I've burned on tabs, I don't care about any other MTX.
Honestly when I first started playing PoE, when there were only 3 acts, I would have never been able to finish the campaign difficulty that we have now.
I won't be surprised at all if some players never reach yellow maps.

You can check the steam achievements to see how many people finish the tutorial aka campaign.
Acts in current state are so much more difficult than when I started back in Beta without even knowing how to link my skills. I've stopped in dried lake because my buddies got bored. I came back in Talisman league and got quite far with Sunder Juggy. I don't play every league but when I do I try to get ~30/40 done.

"Free" is more correct, you can't really play the full game without getting stashes map and currency tabs are must have even if you don't trade.
If you make it past act10 and into maps for free and still aren't sure if you're willing to throw down $20 for permanent storage, I dunno man.
At that point you'd either have dropped the game because you didn't like it, or you're hooked and that's still way cheaper than Grim Dawn and its DLCs.

The game is made with streamers in mind
Most of their test rigs are streamer tier machines
It's the new normal. In 5 years games will be sold on their own dedicated ssds. Every game 1-3TB.
I can unironically see this happening - and publishers will be glad cause g get can sell your the hardware on top for an extra margin. Of course the SSDs will be hardlocked so you cannot use them for anything but the game. Oh and don't forget the 100gb day1 dl on top of it all
is that mean game will be sold as physical copies again?
is that also mean I can buy used game again?
remember the part about 2tb SSD costing 100$? profit margin for publisher - 50$
game cost - 70$
nice 220$ physical copy bro. sure beats digital.
Are you stupid? How have you not realized SSD costs go down constantly, all computer parts do and always have b gone.

Yes.

No. You'll still need an internet connection to get past their DRM. Moreover it's very antisemitic to want to buy pre-owned.
That would be amazing though
It would make games physical property again
Most "AAA" games are around 100gb now and if I remember correctly the projection puts AAA games at like 800gb in a decade from now, not counting the small numbers of outliers (like CoD already pushing 200gb). This is insane and a horrible development for gaming
It can be, if technology doesn't catch up to the bloating gaming market. Hopefully by then a 10tb SSD will cost as much as a 1tb SSD does now
Not a problem. Compression is easy if they'd bother to, but they don't because tech runs ahead.
Denuvo-stripped pirated RDR2 is a lot smaller
this wont happen for a simple reason. it would bring the market back to physical media and they dont want it.
You can buy a 2TB NVME for $80
Lies
Stop being poor or from poor countries.
4tb had deals as low as $170 recently.
Firstoids don't suffer. In 3rd world shithole they jack up the price as high as 25-50%.
tbh being poor is one thing but the issue with most 3rd world shitholes is that they vote in leftists to tax the shit out of everything in hopes that that will make them not poor and then are surprised that 50% import tax, for some completely mysterious reason, makes their imported stuff 50% more expensive
>QLC
>qlc shit
Might as well just buy an hdd
Can I buy an extra NVME slot on my board? How many SATA ports do you have?
You can buy PCI-E -> NVMe adapters but I doubt that would help you if have shit motherboard to begin with.
>why an't I run this on dad's working lenovo?
It's cause they are just stapling an entire game's worth of assets to another game lol. Path of Exile 2 is literally two games.
>Path of Exile 2 is literally two games.
Except its not lmao
it is now, you are lite by like 6 months on the info.
>bro world of warcraft is literally 9 games
this is what you sound like
It is straight up not an expansion. They don't share any classes, campaign, or endgame. We don't even know if they have the same passive tree.
they've said its gonna be a seperate game now
They have the same Atlas endgame
Nah they changed this when they separated the games, they haven't announced PoE 2's endgame other than it will still have a map system where you can roll the zones mods with currency items.
They're redoing the whole lore/atlas system with something brand new and unique.
No.
They are outright keeping PoE going because 2 is so drastically different.
Yeah but Path of Exile 2 isn't a new client, you're downloading both games
lol, i remember PSO2NGS was 120GB and their excuse was PSO2 files needed to work with NGS
after i downloaded 30GB of NGS files with unofficial launcher i played just fine without any issues, lmao
lets hear which excuse Grinding Gear would use
Your example makes zero sense. The game is not sharing files with any other game. Try again, ESL chink.
Only third-worlders complain about storage size. You could give me games that are 1TB+ and I still wouldn't complain. What's the deal?
it's 2023

How are the loading times on this game? Worth installing on a HDD? I'm just finishing building my PC and went for a 2TB SDD and HDD
its like 30gb just install on ssd. every game released after like 2010 is better on ssd. hdd are just for storage these days

ESO is 126gb just fyi
BG3 is listed as 150gb
The game has 80gb size. You only need 150 for installation
It is 124.
Latest cowadoody and fifa are also over 100gb.

You either save for few years and buy an old used car or take a second mortgage on a new car.

Don’t all live service games get bloated because inevitably they need to make more shit so you don’t get bored from f2p dogshit?
The actual size is going to be around 50-75 Gigs. First Path of Exile is like 25 gigabytes and both games install and update from the same client.

the only two games (aside from emulator shit which is like 10GB total for a bunch of stuff) i have permanently installed are dota and planetside 2.

Because 2 TB of SSD costs less than 100$ or 100€ or whatever currency you want 15000 yen...
>not having multiple terabytes of flash storage in the year 2O23

I have 2x 2TB of 8000 MB/S read/write SSDs and 16 TB WD Red.

There are luddites on this board who refuse to get an SSD and get mad when a game barely works on a HDD.
If they actually announce they're adding WASD control in the reveal later today, they won, D4 is dead.

They're prob just future proofing for higher resolutions, something they failed to do with PoE 1.
PoE 2 models look amazing.
did they say that the 2d art will look the same as the equipped item on the model?
There is no 2D art anymore, they just use a capture of the 3D in game model.
Art lead shows the process here, doing the 2D art for a unique.

because that's like... a 30$ worth of hard drive by 2025?
Consolekids are literally 15 years late in tech it's embarassing
It's not. But there's nothing anyone can do about it. It's gonna keep getting worse so start saving up for a 6tb SSD or something idk
Let me guess, it also download all the DLC for the game and you just have to pay for a code to unlock it
It's a Free game sir, they have never once charged for an update.
"Free" is more correct, you can't really play the full game without getting stashes map and currency tabs are must have even if you don't trade.
Free is free, you don't need the tabs to play the game. I got to yellow maps with just 4 tabs.
