Any other youtubers encounter a roadblock and go "oh well looks like we can't beat this but let's continue and see the minimum number anyway" while pannenkoek spends years trying to find some sort glitch that fixes the problem

I actually enjoy those challenge run videos. It's interesting to see how viable a particularly niche build or weapon is. Sometimes they hit unexpected roadblocks and have to get very creative to pass them. Also, watching people suffer for entertainment is just timeless.

I enjoyed parts of my Dark Souls 3 SL1 run when I had to be more wary of chip damage. The ring that reduces the damage you take while you're at max HP makes it so most of the base game allows you to survive hits from attacks that normally oneshot you. So slower bosses were fine, but faster bosses or bosses that put small hazards everywhere were suddenly a lot more difficult and I had to plan around that and look for openings in those attacks. (Could've just stood back and wait for good move rng but that's only tedious)

I wrote a script on a game's characters and plot then scrapped it when I realized I needed to replay the game, record it, and then edit the video. Video essay guys must have giant fricking hard drives to be able to record that much shit.
I have a family member who teaches history at a university. Kids are just learning book reports through the 12th grade. We started on essay structure back in the 5th grade in DoDDs, which used the Fairfax, VA public school curriculum back in the 80s.

Why are video essays concerning art/vidya/philosophy mostly shit? It's so rare to come across a video that's over an hour long and conveys information in a proper and well-paced way. Instead, majority of the video essays either repeat the same information over and over or they use grandiose and flowery language. What could've been a 20-30 minute video is now over an hour.

The biggest dichotomy for me is how the Video Essay Creators think that they are making something super deep and insightful to the masses, and how the Video Essay Watchers just use it as background noise to half-watch
I want to make two videos.
One is about creative decisions in a Tower of God adaptation and another one is about castle implementations in CRPGs over the years.
It's certainly not deep and I'm not even sure it's gonna be good enough for the background half-watch.
My favorite part is when they decide to use dramatic pauses to really emphasize one of their points yet it only serves to make their whole video increasingly ludicrous.

I actually enjoy those challenge run videos. It's interesting to see how viable a particularly niche build or weapon is. Sometimes they hit unexpected roadblocks and have to get very creative to pass them. Also, watching people suffer for entertainment is just timeless.

I enjoyed parts of my Dark Souls 3 SL1 run when I had to be more wary of chip damage. The ring that reduces the damage you take while you're at max HP makes it so most of the base game allows you to survive hits from attacks that normally oneshot you. So slower bosses were fine, but faster bosses or bosses that put small hazards everywhere were suddenly a lot more difficult and I had to plan around that and look for openings in those attacks. (Could've just stood back and wait for good move rng but that's only tedious)
That Pannenkoek video is good because it is not normal gameplay, to put it lightly.

The thing is, as a new player, the late game is my second concern.
The first one would be about first 10-20 hours. If it's a pile of dogshit, I need a really, really, really good reason to endure it, and the game probably doesn't have it.
By the nature of MMOs you either keep playing, get bored, or get angry eventually. People who dislike an experience now will often retcon all previous experiences. If you told me I could play 500 hours of a game and have fun for 300 of them I would obviously do it but these guys will pretend it all sucked. If you played that much of a game and hated all of it you're mentally ill and moronic.

Why are video essays concerning art/vidya/philosophy mostly shit? It's so rare to come across a video that's over an hour long and conveys information in a proper and well-paced way. Instead, majority of the video essays either repeat the same information over and over or they use grandiose and flowery language. What could've been a 20-30 minute video is now over an hour.

One is about creative decisions in a Tower of God adaptation and another one is about castle implementations in CRPGs over the years.
It's certainly not deep and I'm not even sure it's gonna be good enough for the background half-watch.
