Combination of a few factors, like largely avoid the fallout from the GFC, our government at the time using it as an excuse any way to supercharge and inflate the economy, the mining sector still driving China's economic boom all leading to people seeing it as a safe place to store their money. Demand for AUD goes up, price goes up.

Economists at the time were warning it was going to be short lived and we're seeing the results of that now.

Was never going to happen in the first place, as regulations forbid any significant Australian investment into the sectors that crashed. Didn't stop them from pumping out the stimulus cheques any way and sending the government into insane amounts of debt to gdp.

    Shit's fricked

    Pros:
    - Warm all year round
    - Major population centres are along the coast
    - Government is legally committed via many international treaties to increase the population from 26 million to 30 million by 2030 (You'll have very little visa problems no matter how brown you are)
    - So utterly irrelevant, and out of the way, that no one would ever bother invading or bringing war to the country

    Cons:
    - Extremely expensive and inflation is skyrocketing, in a per capita depression (Increasing crime rates and so on included)
    - Education standards have dropped significantly in the past 10 years, way beyond tiktok generation bullshit (think Africa tier), far more pronounced competency crisis than rest of the world
    - Government is captured by mining interests, and now the economy is 99% rock exports, so there is very little opportunity beyond mining and facilitating the mining industry

I was making 45k a year teaching autistic high school children to read and do the basic mathematics that their primary teachers failed to get in to their heads.
Realistically I also spent an unreasonable amount of my time trying to teach them to not go to jail. Maybe I'm biased but it felt like a job that should pay better than being a barista.

Good on ya mate, teaching has been underpaid with terribly low standards for a long fricking time and it's a shame, it's completely fricked the country in the long run.

My teachers were absolute dropkicks and everyone I knew who went onto teach (not saying this is you) were absolute dropkicks as well who had no idea what they wanted to do so just went and did teaching and now phone it in. Although one of them didn't last long, got turfed for fricking a student and cops found his grow house at the same time.

It gets worse, because even if you are teaching, if your job title isn't "teacher" the union doesn't give a frick about you.
Came in one morning to find two thirds of my team fired. Teachers get paid ok, but not enough to deal with the kids who want to vape and play roblox instead of learn to read, so they bounce them to us, people who make less than half the money, and let it be our problem now that they've isolated the kid from their main source of social interaction.

              >Homeschool if you have the luxury, lads.
I'm still torn about this, from a purely academic standpoint there is no doubt it's the way to go, in fact if you consider that a 1 on 1 tutor costs the same as a mid-tier private school where your kid ends up in a pack of 30, from a purely economic standpoint home schooling make sense, but it's the lack of social shit that's hard to justify when it comes to home schooling.

                Anonymous

Fun fact: according to an intensive nationwide study by the productivity commission in to primary education, the more remote a student is, the better they perform, with extremely remote students outperforming urban students consistently.
Additionally, indigenous student performance scales up the more indigenous students are in their school, while children of every other ethnicity have their performance drop the more indigenous students are in their school.
The government proved that schools should be segregated by accident and then didn't do anything with that information.

                >but it's the lack of social shit that's hard to justify when it comes to home schooling.
I work at a bounce 1 day a week, it's fun/get paids to do cardio and mess with kids. Anyway two of the regulars are a pair of home school kids, primary school aged and very sharp already, how they socialise is obviously coming to a place like Bounce (it was actually their HPE/Sport class for the day if I remember right) but also their parents have connected with other home school kids and get them together. So the other kids sometimes join in their classes and vice versa depending on schedules and all that.

The kids were so detailed and convincing I went from never considering home schooling at all to at least viewing it as an option.

Yeah this is probably a good way to go, having to structure and organise a kids social life seems a little ridiculous, but it certainly seems like a much better alternative to rolling the dice and throwing them into public schooling at this point.

Might have to look at remote learning options as well because i'm getting dangerously close to just abandoning ship in the city and just fricking off to a nice block of land in the country to, the Aus I grew up in is just fricking gone and it's heart breaking to watch.

If I do hit it, am I allowed to legally take the kangaroo corpse, put it in the back of my ute, put the tarp on it, bring it home, butcher, preserve, and eventually eat the kangaroo corpse? Its more than enough because women will date crackheads happily, you need to find a way to put yourself out there regularly interacting with women
The women that want a man with wealth nowadays cannot look beyond surface level appearances, so they'll choose a man that has expensive clothing, accessories and cars (but in debt) over a guy that's actually in a good spot. But if you ever land a relationship with a girl they'd likely stay because of your stability unless you're boring as a brick to them
