13 months later... I am forgotten

Remember how we thought "man, BotW was in development for six years and the devs had to come up with the game's vision and the engine and the whole map and this and that, IMAGINE how good TotK will be now that it was in development for the same amount of years but all of the above already solved? Just how fricking good will the game be, how much content will it have?" But the game came out and all it had was a couple sky islands and some caves. The fanfare surrounding BotW was gone, all the lore theorists abandoned the game. What the FRICK happened?

Totk is better. Lore theorists are gay losers and contribute nothing to a game. Botw was a beta test and only people that overhyped it and got burnt out were disappointed by totk.

how are people supposed to talk about it for 6 months

It legit was a glorified expansion, so repetitive and "been there done that" that normies that were enamored with BOTW forgot about TOTK a month after release, and hardcore fans that liked the breadcrumb lore of BOTW hated TOTK for throwing all that shit away and writing probably the single worst story in Zelda history

What the frick does "sequel price" mean? Elden Ring's DLC is 50 dollars which is the same price they sold TotK at via the voucher program.

Correction, ER DLC is 40, still only 10 dollars off TotK. I don't think 50 dollars for a massive expansion is the unreasonable cost you imply it is. And if you paid 70 dollars for TotK you're moronic.

Hey remember how all the Sheikah tech straight up vanishes between games including the Divine Beasts, with zero fricking explanation, and when Aonuma had to come up with a moronic reason during an interview outisde of the game he somehow added even more holes to the plot. I do.

Sometimes less is more. BOTW felt fresh as frick and revived enthusiasm for Zelda like RE7 did for Resident Evil. TOTK was as hyped as Shadow of the Erdtree but delivered a Garry's Mod DLC as a 70 bucks sequel + a story that not only didn't take advantage of being a direct sequel to the game everyone played and loved but also poked holes into it. Like frick, you go to Hateno and NOBODY recognizes Link, as if BOTW wasn't canon. Or . It was bad, and it's been memory holed for a reason.

Don't forget how they filled the caves with fricking Amiibo items that already existed in BotW. God what a disappointment this game was.

Both have great level design so I don't see your point. The moment-to-moment gameplay in TotK surpasses almost every adventure game out there.

It's weird how they account for new locations like the caves and islands but act as if nothing else has changed. NPC's, main and side quests, shrines and whatever else don't match the old game, simply the topology of the map.
There are games where they take place in New York or similar cities that make little to no actual changes between game other than interiors for select missions which never received the same level of flack

Its a popular Nintendo game and that would require you to actually play the game instead of shitposting on Ganker thinking you're making strangers upset (which has never been the case).

Word didn't begin immediately for the sequel, there was the DLC for the first one which accounts for the first year.
The tease for sequel was shown in 2019, so production probably started either that same year or one previous.
It's also known that the game was "finished" a year before release but wasn't released for polish. Anything else on production is from the GDC presentation which is actually an interesting watch.

Overall the actual time spent on this game is nearer 4 or 5 years instead of the 7 people keep saying.

        >is nearer 4 or 5 years instead of the 7 people keep saying
People say 6, not 7. And there's not that much of a difference between 5 and 6. We're talking about Nintendo not some indie dev.

          >Update
It did not have 5 years
They said themselves they finished a year earlier and then had a presumably small chunk of the team fixing bugs. 4 years for such a huge expasion is reasonable ad the next game will be late 28 to early 29.

Unironically too much to do and not enough reason to do it. Every puzzle rewards you with the same shit, some weapon that will break in 5 minutes. SOMETIMES the reward is armor but that’s pretty few and far between. Takes forever to upgrade your battery to be able to do any of the truly crazy shit. In the end I got bored after clearing the wind and water temples and never went back. I should finish it one of these days. Maybe I’ll try to roll credits before EoW comes out

The game lets you finish it at any point after reaching the ground, if you're done with it then why not go straight to the final boss?
