For me it's the opposite, I had the Miyoo Mini before I got the Steam Deck but since I own the Steam Deck I forgot about the Miyoo, Miyoo Mini is really neat for how small it is but if I had to carry one around to work or play at home I would go with the Steam Deck simply because I have more games available on it both in emulation and PC games
Miyoo Mini's pretty cool for what it is but yeah it's a wee bit "gimmicky" for a daily-carry device. It gets a bit better at it if you pop in some custom L/R buttons that you can get off of Etsy though.
If all I wanted was emulating games from SNES/Genesis and below then I would go with a Miyoo Mini, it cannot be beaten in terms of portability, but after getting the Deck I just couldn't find myself in any situations where I would rather pull up the Miyoo Mini than the Deck to play games, the Miyoo Mini seems better for GB/GBC games and such but even with those systems I kind of prefer the Steam Deck ergonomics on the long run plus being able to switch to a more powerful system without needing to boot up another console
Steam Deck is not nearly as portable but is hard to be beaten as a all in one portable console and I would rather just carry one thing around than multiple consoles

it's not the most complex game but it's a fairly recent 3D title
had to play with the core clock and put it at 900 and limit the power draw but it ran at 40 fps with no dips

Yeah and Steam Deck lasts for over 6 hours if you set limits, what's your point? In the same conditions (both laptop and Steam Deck running under max load with no restrictions), most laptops have less than 2 hours battery life.
Even then, the top gaming laptops have only about 90-100 Wh batteries in them. The average mobile GPU in those laptops consumes 80-160W of power, and CPUs up to half of that. So even if you turn down everything so much that your entire system, including the screen, GPU, CPU and everything else consumes only 40W of power, you are barely getting over 2 hours of battery life.
And on top of that, gaming laptop running at 40W is gonna run games drastically worse than the Deck, you'd be lucky to hit 30fps in something like Witcher 3.

I'm playing the MGS games and DT2 on my Vita now, the OLED screen is far from being as good as the Switch's, the blacks are still grayish.

I can't think of any kind of use-case where detachable controllers would be appropriate that isn't just "local multiplayer with break-off controllers" a la Switch. It's already about as big as a decent laptop, closed, in its carrying case.
A lenovo idea pad 3 gaming is an inch thick compared to a steam deck's case of 3.5 inches.
C'mon anon it's a bit bulky when you consider the whole package. Laptops slip easily into the laptop portion and if you have a separate controller you have more storage options.
Steam deck's neat but I think it'd really benefit from copying the switch in that regard. Maybe they had to stuff some components into the controller housing.

I'm about to go take a shit while playing Monster Hunter: Rise at max settings at 60fps. I've been playing for 2 hours already and my battery indicator literally says 1 hour left. I'll report back after I take a shit and hunting some monsters how much battery is left. I usually take about 30 minutes while taking a shit. sometimes more if i bring my deck.
I had weird issues with frametimes on Rise at 60fps, it would frequently start going up and down at random moments even though the fps counter never dipped below 60. Tried various settings, especially vsync and other shit, as well as different Proton versions (except GE), and nothing helped. Then I tried locking it to 59fps instead of 60, and it solved the issue, frametime graph is suddenly a flat line for 99% of the time.

I just finished shitting. It was sloppy and wet, but quick. I have 45 minutes left, according to my Deck. I am guessing I'll get closer to an hour. I'll lower my brightness to half and continue playing, and I bet I can get another half hour. I'll drop my refresh rate to 40fps too and i bet that'll get me yet another half an hour. So I fully anticipate getting another 2 hours without charging.

I haven't heard anything personally about the Deck being bricked by a charger or dock (I'd assume it would just refuse connection or announce a slow charge) but yeah Windows won't recognize EXT4 formats and partitions natively. You'll need some kind of Linux plugin for that, or ideally you just make a network Sharing folder and access it with Samba (smb:// in Dolphin or whatever other file explorer you have).
Set up Emudeck and you can just dump ROMs into each emulator's appropriate folder.
You can also use VirtualBox or some other VM solution and run a Linux distro on it to access EXT4 and other Linux partitions.

I'm an old frick been PC gaming since '93 and while I love my desktop I spend less time playing games on it because I don't want to be sequestered in the gaming room so much. But as an adult, I spend more time just mutually hanging out with my spouse and the Deck fits into that use case. All that time people spend zoned out with their phones? That could be PC gaming.

Jesus frick, why!? I dont even know much about the steam deck but that's way to big for a handheld. It's as wide as or wider than an iPad tablet. That cant be comfortable to play on for more than an hour. Ever had gamers thumb? Your last bone on your thumbs pop out of its socket. I had it on both thumbs when I was (14yo?) playing Mercenaries and Castlevania:CoD on PS2 because I just played nonstop for days. Sony has mastered the most comfortable controller, Xbox gets a close second and I put Gamecube 3rd cuz the button configuration is a bit awkward but still pretty standard. I work in a warehouse all day and I dont want my vidya to hurt my hands more than my job does. In addition to being a lifelong gamer I'm also a guitarist (among other musical putsuits). I contort my hands on a daily basis in so many ways that I want a controller to feel atleast somewhat relaxing in my hands but this looks like a nightmare for me. Even the N64 controller looks more comfortable to my hands than this brick. Gameboy SP, DS and PSP/Vita all have better design as a portable controller than this clunky colossus. I'm doubting many here will agree with me as I seem to be atleast a slightly more oldschool than most of the crowd on this board (looking at you zoomers) but I absolutely think think this design just isn't that good. I can feel my biceps and palms hurting trying to hold that thing to my face after an hour, not because its heavy but because it makes the hand placement awkward. The analog sticks being so high up seems like the most counter intuitive part to me. It makes more sense to have it slightly lower than the other buttons because of how the human thumb functions. I'm sure the steam deck will be cool for PC players who want games on the go, I really tried to consider it as a viable new platform but the design is just way too flawed for me. You do you Ganker, get one if it brings you joy, that's what games are all about!

I wrapped up my platinum god playthrough of binding of isaac on deck last week. I reached the Elden Beast in Elden Ring, so it's only a matter of time. I've beaten every level in spelunky 2. Yet to do a complete run-through without the shortcuts tho, which is the "true" ending. I don't know what you're talking about. I've beaten plenty on this thing, and I've only had it for a month.
Off the top of my head sekiro, w3, botw which sucked a couple hours in but I powered through it, a slew of roguelites, some vns, gurumin, one of the bamhams, and I play smash, mh and modded skyrim and sims 3.
I've noticed that nobody ever really mentions games that Ganker likes. The kind of games that anyone here would actually play first and foremost to 'christen' the device. it's always indie shit or flavour of the month reddit titles of coomer crap

I finished Celeste, Valheim (90% of my 290 hour playtime on the deck), Regions of Ruin and some other shorter games like The Search, and many genesis and gameboy games, (gargoyle's quest, streets of rage multiple times etc) and I have posted about them in other threads, I don't need to spam it in every thread.

If it wasn't for gyro, and remapping keys on the back buttons/trackpads I would consider it unplayable. Other than that, even though I wasn't a gamepad person before the deck I got used to it.

Ideally have a friend or two to play with, it gets quite grindy solo I had my girlfriend help with some tasks.
Also there was a bug where opening the virtual keyboard would crash the device, easily the worst bug I've had, even though it was pretty rare, I hope they (have) fix(ed) it.

People are literally buying a Steam Deck for $400+ when it only lasts an hour and a half, is uncomfortable as frick to hold, impossible to carry around conveniently, and has a tiny library of games that actually work

I travel a lot and sometimes I want to play shit that isn't a Switch game. My flights aren't any longer than 1 hour and even if I take a ferry thats only 2 hours, and they have outlets. Its more than enough for me. I don't want a laptop because thats gay and my PC has a 3060ti. Deck makes sense to complement my other handhelds

I love what the Steam Deck is doing for Linux gaming but it's not the device for me. I am waiting for the Steam console where they can go all in and load it up for $499 without regard for keeping wattages low.
