At least part 1 had a goal. Part 2 has just been treading water with no overarching goal other than 'Denji wants people to know he's Chainsaw Man'. Everyone is just waiting for the Death Devil to be revealed as the big bad.
Part 1 and Part 2 are both using the same subversion technique. Denji in Part 1 wants sex and seems desperate but he turns Himeno down, doesn't proposition Power to pay him in sex for saving her after the boob touch, doesn't guilt trip Kobeni into sex, nor does he pursue Makima when Power is in need of physical therapy from her best buddy. He wants people to want him emotionally. Part 2 he still has an issue when a girl refuses to say his name instead calling him Chainsaw Man. If a girl can't see past his "fake persona" as CSM and come to like the real Denji he doesn't want her. Also friendship might prove to be the best solution to his issues at the moment until he can convince a girl to genuinely fall in love with DENJI not just her idealized version of CHAINSAW MAN.
I don't think it's even that complicated. I just think it's that "tfw no gf" is just really a cope for deeper issues of feeling alone with no one to connect with. Denji just needs one real friend and a family. Which he had with Aki and Power.
