There isn't a world out there where Outbreak isn't a niche game. It's a strategy survival horror four player multiplayer game where you do scenarios that can last anywhere from an hour to 10 minutes.
It's not newbie friendly because skilled players will inevitably be speedrunning scenarios while new players drop in wanting to explore, there's too many characters to sort from, a lot of its mechanics are only properly explained in the manual, it was never going to be anything more than niche.
It selling a million was a pure fluke- the sequel only sold 1/10th of that.

Outbreak games are one of the better RE games, you can absolutely play it singleplayer just fine ( after all the European version didn't have online at all kek ) but if you got PC you can emulate them through PS2 emu, it still has online servers being played on HOWEVER it is unfortunately filled with speedrun trannies who will kick anyone who doesn't speedrun the game.

NTA but Outbreak was great for Resi obsessives such as myself. The sheer attention to detail was incredible and rewarded fans of the series with loads of stuff to talk about. Still to this day there are things I had no idea about that pop up when I read about it or listen to podcasts.
It was also genuinely quite scary and really captured the whole shit falling apart feel that created an atmosphere I haven't experienced anywhere else.
I sucked at the game, though and never played it online.

The RE3 remake was not a major project internally. It was more or less training for the parties involved, and the primary focus in much of the marketing was Resistance, as Capcom wanted to have a live service RE title.
The RE3 Remake teams (yes, teams) were never involved with an RE4 remake. During the 2020 ransom ware leak as well, RE4 Remake assets (mainly early texture files) were leaked, in addition to a development timeline where the RE4 remake already had a set date for its eventual reveal, which lines up with when it actually happened.

I played a lot of RE5 when it came out and I really enjoyed it.
Was fun playing online with others, plus The Mercenaries was always a good time.
The only part of 5 I didn't play in the end was the DLC, I'll look forward to that when I eventually replay the game.
the 2 DLCs are kind of hit or miss, i do enjoy them both but the Desperate Escape DLC is still pretty fun and short one and the better one of the 2.

I was a teenager when I played 5 co-op, even then I could recognize how 4 completely derailed the franchise, cause I actually played the good ones first.
i just played this through for the first time (just got a new PC). i played like 10 games that i had trouble with on my old potato pc (RDR2, cyberpunk, some call of duty bullshit, elden ring, witcher 3 etc etc and RE8 was the only one i actually felt like finishing. currently playing through RE4 remake and it's holding my attention too.
