Do you think there is something built into your PC that prevents this unless you click on the yes button inside the steam client?

No but wireshark proves that this isn't the case. They could always update it to do so but that hasn't happened and probably won't. Wouldn't be good for business.

Same here. Crazy shitty tbh.

Okay so what's built into steam that says "scan user's PC anyway even if they literally say no to the yearly hardware survey"?
You are literally tech illiterate.
You latch onto some moronic idea of "7 was le best" even tho you have no idea about the inner workings of the system. You just parrot what other morons on a video game board (not even the tech board) say. Win 8.1 has mogged Win 7 since the day it came out. Not that you'd know though, you don't actually care about what's better. You just parrot the shitty opinions of people as moronic as you on here.
>china gets added >all china users are running on Windows 10 due to the deal the CCP has been running with Microsoft >Steam share of Windows 7 drops from 10-20% to sub 5% over night after the chinese got added
Same with AMD. You couldn't even buy their hardware in China most of the time. So when China invaded the marketshare on Steam there dropped from around 30% to 10% or less over night.

I run a website which mostly "westerners", including Japanese visit and my Windows 7 market share is even lower than Steam. Has been on a steady decline for years now.
Because it's infinitely easier to pirate for PC. Didn't they also make piracy legal when the globohomosexual payment system did the pettiest shit possible and kicked them out?
Consoles (other than NES clones) were not even widely available in some Eastern European countries until well into the 2000s. Those places have historically been PC central.

NEEDHAM, Mass., October 9, 2023 – The downward spiral for PC shipments continued during the third quarter of 2023 (3Q23) as global volumes declined 7.6% year over year with 68.2 million PCs shipped, according to preliminary results from the International Data Corporation (IDC)
Chinese don't play on consoles. They banned them for a long time so everyone just uses pcs. Not surprising at all and it's the only reason games come to PC as much as they do.
Don't worry, in a few days time valve will release the "corrected figures" just like they always do. Can't let the gaijin know china is slowly buying up the world.

But Steam has no Chinese gacha. That's why steam has advantage on Japanese game, while Japan is weak in mobile game. Which platform is Western game vulnerable on?
Steam has shitton of mobile gacha games nowadays. A lot of them not even new, mobage devs just decided to port to steam so addicts can play even on their home PCs without bluestacks.
Why the hell are more people buying 6 core CPUs over 8-12 cores? Every gaming latency guide says 6 cores are now obsolete for modern games since DX12 and Vulkan use all your cores.
>people buying 6 core CPUs over 8-12 cores
Those are probably old PCs that have been bought years and years ago. People tend to use parts till they break down and they're forced to buy another one. And they probably don't care about graphics and play their same comfort games like CSGO and Dota at 1080p.
Probably because theyre not the same as the redditors who upgrade every single part the moment they have enough money to. My current pc is several years old. Im only finally replacing it. I wonder if intel cpus only have their p cores counted. The e cores seem like a joke solely dont to act like they have more cores than amd. They dont count when theyre not as good as the p cores which are bigger and better.
>since DX12 and Vulkan use all your cores.
protip: they don't. multicore programming is extremely difficult and even harder to do efficiently. buying CPUs based on their single threaded performance will give you better performance in 99% of games out there
>use all your cores
Frick off
Games can't even properly handle dual core
Many of them are stuck single threaded and no update is coming to fix games that had soul during their prime
So in the IT world
People claiming that their application or website >Uses your Data just like Steam does
Is actually recognized as shorthand that they both intend on collecting data that you would not approve of AND using that data malevolently.
Mostly under the misunderstanding that Valve's business model as a tech company (like most tech companies) isn't financially viable and that they have both a compulsion to share holders, and fiscal necessity to illicitly trade user data.
They actually sell games, and aren't deliberately buttholes to their customers for no reason, and being literally the only software company that does, they are exceedingly well off from doing it.
I just thought this was an interesting fact to share with you. Also when dealing with User data with major companies it does come with the asterisk that their collected data does technically have the flaw that it relies on the end user volunteering this information, and certain platforms such as Linux, which many users have moved to over privacy concerns, and other platforms such as MacOS may be oversampled as Mac products are generally seen as a vanity item to show off
That only really helps emphasize how ridiculously big China is considering that English combines every country where english is the primary language, a popular second language (like in India or the Philippines) and the fact that it's the language of aviation. On the other hand mandarin chinese, not even a "combined" Chinese language census that involves the other dialects like cantonese, pinyin, hakka, etc. comes in at a very close second.

Consoles (other than NES clones) were not even widely available in some Eastern European countries until well into the 2000s. Those places have historically been PC central.
Console gaming (especially Nintendo) is dead in Russia and Eastern European
Eastern Europe is like 95% PC only gamers, check the stats. That's why they love actual video games like might&magic and gothic
Piracy, much cheaper than consoles in third world countries.
It's unfortunate that they exist and have such a high population count.
Guess what, Half of those chinese users are just bots and alts
I though they couldn't access steam?
Are they not also sequestered to their own version of Steam? China has Chinese Steam, and the rest of the world has regular Steam?
Or am I just mis-remembering shit and/or mixing up what Blizz did with WoW? I thought other big companies did that, too.
