It's incredible how detailed Kul Tiras was as an open world location, and just how little of it was used for any actual questing. The phased part used in Horde invasions was alright, but there's miles of streets and houses and NPCs, and like, none of them are used for anything. The amount of work put in for how far you can explore and there's nothing to do is just baffling.

The healing magic argument is one thing I never get, in any game. Many settings easily explain healing magic as something that can be used only on relatively fresh wounds, have limited use in case of fatal wounds, and sometimes critical hits might leave scars. If something rips your arm or leg off, there is so much healing magic can do about that in most settings. Diseases and curses can diminish healing effects. If your entire body is starting to break down because of age and other factors, even spamming healing magic on you wouldn't help much. Healing magic is also much more limited outside of playable casters/clerics/healers, as far as those worlds go you wouldn't have many people just going around and being able to cast a Greater Heal on you because you bonked your head while leaving a tavern.
Just something that really irks me whenever someone mentions "hurr healing magic", I get the point of the post.

WoW hasn't been purely medieval for a long ass time. Shadowlands recently gave us the apparent super afterlife where the creators of the gods and titans are just robots of some kind.
It's still medieval. They introduce all this cosmic shit then it turns out it can be beaten by knights and swords just like everything else.
The only "medieval" thing about WoW is that characters use swords. Everything else about the game is high fantasy with elements of steam punk and other genres thrown in.

I think this is a symptom of two issues. One, the pro representation camp always feel that they are in an uphill battle to "catch up" as far as pure numbers go. Human, Dwarf, Night Elf and Gnome for Alliance.
Orc, Troll, Blood Elf and Goblin for Horde.
For example Gnome only has access to Blue and Bronze specs, and Orc can be Red or Black.
You get some dragon features that you can add during character customization, and can whip out wings as skill, or turn into a drake during combat by using specific skills.

I played the game for an hour and it was just running to "random" events on the map and killing shit so bars filled up, rinse repeat.
If that's not what the game is they really fricked up the first hour of gameplay and are still at fault.

Did GW2 frick up WoW's trajectory? It was weird returning to WoW after playing GW2 alot from launch, seeing them announce world quests (lets just copy GW2 events but force players to return daily) and M+ (after seeing players run fractals of the mist endlessly). Everybody points out that dragonriding is a shitty GW2 mount copy, but it even makes me think those fricking awful BfA battlefronts were once their attempt at stealing WvWvW too.

An fps without a mechanical dexterity requirement would be an fps with a built-in aimbot invalidating the gameplay element of the videogame, a strategy game without cognitive burden is a game you wouldn't have to make decisions in which would turn an RTS or grand strategy into a passive simulation, and an rpg without immersion just fades into some other genre. Every traditional mmo falls into my shitpost description because that's what results from the foundation.

Old MMOs were ridden with engine/tech limits from that era so much so, that some of their "mechanics" were simply a way to workaround/cope for the lack of depth. This is clearly seen as some mechanics in those MMOs do not require much skills other than grinding for the right gear for it. As much as I dislike WoW, their normal-difficulty raids alone require more individual skills than any old MMO prior to it

Dragonflight did a lot right but playing dark and darker made me realize how little soul is left to be salvaged. The only non-boring parts are progressively harder end game content
