Played like 5 hours so far >obligatory "here is your everyman hero and the scrappy life he lives with the orphans he takes care of" intro that quickly becomes predictably tragic but thankfully it doesn't last that long >MC already knows rudimentary magic so there's none of that Forspoken "whoa I can do magic" crap, it's more like when he taps into his chosen one powers it's like turning a regular GI into Captain America >MC is irreverent but knows when to focus so he's not just saying random bullshit all the time to seem like a "relatable hero" >game doesn't do a shitload of "Proper Noun" vomit that a lot of fantasy video games like to do, it tells you there's a war over control of magic resources, there's five kingdoms, here's two relevant factions to know about, and then there's a lore journal if you really give a shit >game quickly gives you your full arsenal of red shotgun magic, blue pistol/rifle magic and green homing submachine gun magic and then you get shit like a whip to pull enemies towards you/pull yourself towards enemies, a shield you have to manually trigger, bigger crowd control spells, time slowdown bomb, etc. >you have to manually heal yourself with medkits you keep your inventory and stronger enemies can fricking rip through that shit fast, second boss took out like 70% of the health bar with one hit but there's also like 2/3 medkits in every combat segment anyway >there's an equipment system but it doesn't seem to really do much since it's so incremental and you're just tweaking minor details on your red shotgun magic or whatever, the skill tree upgrades make way more of a fricking difference
