Why do people hate on Dual Destinies again? I'm playing it for the first time (nearly done with Turnabout Academy) and while it sucks it's no worse than Turnabout Big Top or some of the worst cases in the original trilogy
I'm guessing it's because the game is too handholdy? I consistently feel like I want to make an argument 30 minutes before the defense team does, but that could also be because I'm a college graduate now and I played the originals back in early high school
That's my main reason, but it's not enough to totally kill the game for me.
But a lot of people find the plot stupid and too preachy. Athena's traumatic experience is like a tumor to them and the "Dark Age of the Law" is more about just espousing how bad it is than actually showing everyone the consequences of it.
I honestly think the "Dark Age of the Law" stuff is more funny than anything. After the antagonists that were the Von Karmas, the series suddenly shifting into an attempted "grimdark" tone is charming in a way I haven't seen since Shadow the Hedgehog. There's also the promise that things will actually go somewhere, as the later cases in TGAA 2 were kind of dark? Barely?
I don't like Athena. Le quirky genki girl MC is the last thing AA ever needed.
Athena and Apollo can be a bit annoying, but they're tolerable enough (I guess I got used to that archetype with Kay Faraday in Investigations)
5-1 was meh for an initial case, specially after how great 4-1 was, but it was okay
5-2 and 5-3 are the worst cases in the whole franchise
And what comes after 5-3 in DD I didn't enjoy that much. Honestly the only good case in that game is the DLC.
I did enjoy the DLC case, I fricking hated having to sit through the songs and the case didn't need the twist that there were two orcas but it was pretty quality
Unrelated, but am I the only guy that actually liked PLvAA? It's not the best game in either franchise, but I appreciate that they actually put the effort into making a Professor Layton game with Phoenix Wright trials in them (and the multi witness system was a neat concept)
Nah thought it was cool too, it's more of a layton game with phoenix in it but I thought it was an enjoyable game.
The models are kind of bad when compared to the new ones used in AA5 but when I played it for the first time I didn't even notice.
I liked it. I like the Layton games though, it seems like a lot of hate comes from a lack of crossover between the fanbases in the west and AA fans being mad Phoenix took a back seat to Layton.

i've also replayed 1-6 recently, and the real question is why there was a need to introduce athena after apollo just got introduced in 4
characters didn't really get fleshed out because you have phoenix, apollo and athena
also, the 3d animation was just bad because there was no "reset" from one animation to another, making the models jump
It feels like they wanted to make athena the mc, but not willing to let apollo go, AND they aren't willing to let phoenix go either. It just doesn't feel as immersive when you're constantly switching main characters.
Also they beat the final villain with the power of friendship. I know AA was always a wacky detective story with magic powers but even they never went that way until DD.
Oh shit, I didn't even fricking think about that. It was enough of a struggle adapting to GAA names and it didn't have nearly as long to gestate in my brain

Kay is like the epitome of everything wrong with some of the assistants. No personality beyond her gimmick, shoehorned into story and characters backstory, and bad chemistry with other characters.

It's not unheard of for VN publishers to either use material from fan translations in the official translation or purchase the translation outright. For example, I'm pretty sure the english term "Noble Phantasm" in Fate is grandfathered into official material from the old Mirror Moon patch to this day. I wasn't expecting it from Capcom for one second, but it's been done before.
No, Noble Phantasm was in the Japanese version. Type-moon just does this weird thing where Kanji will have official English spellings, but they're never actually used anywhere. I believe there was one line in the entire vn where the character explain "Noble Phantasm" is how those kanji are supposed to be spelled in english letters.
Investigations 2 finally making its way state side. Maybe now that more eyes are on it people will realize it's actual fricking garbage. Hopefully the translations is better or they fix the game being brain dead easy and telling you the solution to all puzzles at all times.
I played the first game on my 3DS emulated with NDS-Bootstrap and it just stopped working a quarter into the final case. I was so mad that I just ended up reading what happened.

2 is the best Ace Attorney game because there are no filler cases. Every single case feels like the final case of other games in terms of quality and importance to the overall plot, and the final FINAL case is like the crowning achievement of the whole franchise. They could never surpass it.

Okay so here's the thing.
This game is clearly re-built from the ground up instead of just being the DS game x5 times the resolution or whatever.
Due to that I feel like the pixelart has suffered a little bit on the retro mode.
On the original game it's all pixels. Here it's obvious to me that the game has been rebuilt with the modern visuals in mind and then they created an option to swap to the older sprites. But the older sprites are unevenly cut and pixels are not properly traced. Notice how there are uneven squares on edge's caveat compared to the DS.
The "retro" style looks a little bit off. Of course there's 0 chance they're fixing this but I wish they did a little bit of a better job here.
I will still buy this because I like the new drawn sprites and I want to support the series, it's a good excuse to replay 1 and 2 again and I want more Ace Attorney.

AAI-3 I don't even remember much, I wouldn't call it bad per se but I found it forgettable which honestly could be worse. Worst one in the game I guess.
It was bad because it had a horrible cast and plot. Mike Meekins and Oldbag coming back was grating. Ema just showing up for a few moments then disappearing for the rest of the game was moronic. Lauren Pops and Ernest Amano are awful witnesses and Lance Amano is one of the worst killers in the franchise.
The only thing I remember from when I played it is getting bored and disliking the witnesses in general, specially the actual perpetrator so I'd probably agree with your points if I replayed it. Worth pushing through that though, I will keep saying AAI-5 was really fun.

In my experience the best auctions are set as cheap as possible like literally $1 and then you rope in a bunch of interest and a bidding war kicks off on the final hour of the auction.
Also schedule your auction start time so ot finishes at a time when people are home from work, ideally Saturday or Sunday evening. You can also enable offers and see if someone offers you a price you're willing to take before the auction ends

For example, I'm pretty sure the english term "Noble Phantasm" in Fate is grandfathered into official material from the old Mirror Moon patch to this day. No, Noble Phantasm was in the Japanese version. Type-moon just does this weird thing where Kanji will have official English spellings, but they're never actually used anywhere. I believe there was one line in the entire vn where the character explain "Noble Phantasm" is how those kanji are supposed to be spelled in english letters.

Okay so here's the thing.
This game is clearly re-built from the ground up instead of just being the DS game x5 times the resolution or whatever.
Due to that I feel like the pixelart has suffered a little bit on the retro mode.
On the original game it's all pixels. Here it's obvious to me that the game has been rebuilt with the modern visuals in mind and then they created an option to swap to the older sprites. But the older sprites are unevenly cut and pixels are not properly traced. Notice how there are uneven squares on edge's caveat compared to the DS.
The "retro" style looks a little bit off. Of course there's 0 chance they're fixing this but I wish they did a little bit of a better job here.
I will still buy this because I like the new drawn sprites and I want to support the series, it's a good excuse to replay 1 and 2 again and I want more Ace Attorney.
Edgeworth looks like he wants to sell me 100 crystals for 99 cents.

It was bad because it had a horrible cast and plot. Mike Meekins and Oldbag coming back was grating. Ema just showing up for a few moments then disappearing for the rest of the game was moronic. Lauren Pops and Ernest Amano are awful witnesses and Lance Amano is one of the worst killers in the franchise.
The only thing I remember from when I played it is getting bored and disliking the witnesses in general, specially the actual perpetrator so I'd probably agree with your points if I replayed it. Worth pushing through that though, I will keep saying AAI-5 was really fun.

You can set a minimum price if you want so it won't sell unless it goes above $50 for example. But I think 50 is unrealistic. In my experience the best auctions are set as cheap as possible like literally $1 and then you rope in a bunch of interest and a bidding war kicks off on the final hour of the auction.
Also schedule your auction start time so ot finishes at a time when people are home from work, ideally Saturday or Sunday evening. You can also enable offers and see if someone offers you a price you're willing to take before the auction ends
