Dead space was one of the bigger ones, there were a few others, one being manhunt that were just an over the top gorey mess of a game. Oh also condemned was really over hyped game from the same year in the spring.
That era of games started pushing the envelope of edgy nonsense with higher rez graphics to see what they could/couldn't get away with. Plus people really just hopped on the horror fad, shit like saw was trending and being hyped more often, slasher flicks and so on. Horror just took a large up tick of interest in the 00's and then petered out slowly at the start of 2010 or so.

Manhunt is absolutely nothing like DOOM 3 beyond having dim lighting and I'm not sure you've ever played it to suggest that. Dead Space came out four years after DOOM 3 so I don't see how that is DOOM riding a fad wave, Condemned came out a year after DOOM 3 as well.

It's unfortunate, if I ever did a run like this and had a dev on, I'd legit talk to them pre stream with a game plan on the conversation. Just because I don't want to make the dev do all the conversational leg work if they don't want to, but if they want to turn the game into a commentary session - I'd be fricking down and let them have free reign.
