If I’m going to start playing MP should I find a build order I like and copy it, or should I play like a moron until I get a better idea of how I’m going to play?
>should I play like a moron until I get a better idea of how I’m going to play?
This. Don't just be a stupid monkey following a build order someone else figured out for you.
Both are good options. Not following a build order and doing what you want will keep you in the lower Elo, but it's easier to use the wheel instead of trying to reinvent it
Don't do a build order. It will help you rise in elo a bit and then you will be stuck. Practice and build up different basic skills in each game but let it unfold naturally.
- have a basic plan of what unit and tech to make in the game
- always fully utilize all economy workers
- always fully utilize production buildings (otherwise why did you build it)?
- walling with your buildings
- defending/repairng attacks behind walls
- defending with TC
- hunting efficiently
If you just have an efficient eco and make a lot of units, that's probably 750 ELO.
>and then you will be stuck
That will happens regardless because there is always things to polish. All the things you listed are covered in build orders and the general theory of how to play this game
>Learn the theory of the game
So build orders
That's where you start
Then you focus on what you want
Not having your TC idle?
Unit use?
booming?
age up timing?
eco balance for certain units?
Not having your TC idle?
More build orders?
Seriously you want to play good? learn build orders and ask around the community when you have more specific questions. Don't want to play build orders? That's ok, you will stay at the low Elo were build orders doesn't matter and that it's ok, nothing wrong with that but since you are asking things that are answered in the build orders...
>- always fully utilize production buildings (otherwise why did you build it)?
I'd like to add to this. A common mistake in low elo is that people don't make enough military production buildings, which means they won't be able to respond quickly to what the enemy does because your production is bottlenecked. Also, gathering lots of resources is good, but you should not keep them in the bank. Spend them. You're not gonna survive an attack if you have no soldiers and you only have two or three buildings to make them from.
>and then you will be stuck
That will happens regardless because there is always things to polish. All the things you listed are covered in build orders and the general theory of how to play this game
I haven’t been using a set build order but the main thing that trips me up (imo) is timing. I tend to get techs early (loom, eco upgrades) so I don’t forget them even if I’m not using them atm and also the timing on moving up in Ages, I feel like I either get stuck not making vills so I can save up or I make too many vills and get left behind
the idea of only one region for dlc sucks. frick regional dlc outside of anything like Europe where people were interested for East Slavs and Dukes.
Next dlc should be: 1 south american civ, maybe Chanka or another Mesoamerican Civ. whatever asian civ or another if they have the resources. I'd rather not have the game diluted like reddit supposes with 3x new African and Asian civs each expansion that make you go huh, that's far too much.
A regional DLC is the only type that makes sense, because it groups campaigns and architecture together. The idea that the game is pushing the limits on civs is preposterous, it could add another 30 civs comfortably.
A regional DLC is the only type that makes sense, because it groups campaigns and architecture together. The idea that the game is pushing the limits on civs is preposterous, it could add another 30 civs comfortably.
That's why we need thematic DLCs, like the OG Conquerors expansion, e.g: "Keepers of the Passes", themed around people living in/ around mountains. Off the top of my head, you have 6 civs you could add in this: >Swiss, Vlachs, Georgians, Armenians, Tocharians, Tibetans
Varied architecture, different playstyles, vast geographical representation.
If they add nations from a region I'm not interested in and only nations from that region, I'm not gonna buy the DLC, simple as.
If they pull from more regions, they can add multiple regional powers or whatever instead of scrounging up every little tribe because they NEED at least 2-4 civs.
>That's why we need thematic DLCs, like the OG Conquerors expansion
Good idea. >e.g: "Keepers of the Passes", themed around people living in/ around mountains
Not this. This is a shit idea. have a nice day.
>So what new content would you like to see that isn't civs?
I want to see the water gameplay completely reworked. It's been shit for 20 years and it's about time they tried to address it. If you've played the Rome at War mod I'm hoping it'd look something like that. I also want the matchmaking/ranked system overhauled. 1v1s are fine for the most part but the team game system is fricking horrid.
Additionally I'd like to have a rotating set of maps that replace the Empire Wars 1v1/TG tabs. >Tournament 1v1 map pool
Can feature past tournaments or feature maps from the whatever big tournament is currently happening and will last until the next big one gets announced >Team Game Tournament Map Pool
Bit smaller, but Battle of Africa maps and maybe permanent editions from Nation's Cup that never see the light of day in the map pool vote.
>I want to see the water gameplay completely reworked.
That's somehow even worse than spleetposting.
How is that worse? It's one of the biggest complaints in the game. Nobody fricking plays water maps in the map pool. They have some of the lowest play rates.

This one makes sense. Mali is functionally a West Africa amalgamation, and the Fon would make for a shit civ. What are they going to do? Lie down and put up signs saying "A Yoruba horseman should be killing me rn lol"? "Gunpowder from China and guns from Iberia couldn't save me from the cavalry of a Tsetse-infested Rainforest state because I'm hopelessly inept in everything I do?"
Perhaps even a, "Everything I do amounts to impotent devil worship at best, and betrayal of kin at worst. At no point has my existence been a boon to any human on Earth, and the whole of humanity should cast me off the face of it"?
Fon are shit.

I'm just talking about the misuse of terms like split and umbrella, which don't apply to most of the civs he mentioned and broke down. Celts, Dravidians etc are umbrellas because they are literal umbrella terms for related ethnic groups. The Fon Gbeto is not related to Malians but is still in the civ, so this is an umbrella civ.
A civ that is named after ONE ethnic group, and that is designed after ONE ethnic group, is not an umbrella civ that can be split.
Vietnamese is not an umbrella civ just because the related Mons exist, that would be like saying AOC split Franks to add Spanish, that's bullshit. Chinese is not an umbrella civ just because they interacted with Jurchen, that would be like saying RoR split Huns when they added Romans.
The idiot who made that stupid poll doesn't know shit about ethnography and it shows. >Mali is functionally a West Africa amalgamation

The infantry pierce armor bonus, which comes from infantry dodging projectiles, but that's a feature of open-formation fighting, which was much more common in the tropics. Also, it can be argued that, as Timbuktu wasn't fully-realized as a madrassa until the Askias enlarged it, the TB would be either Songhai or Hausa.

"Relevance" is a shit statistic.
The best pick is still Hausa/Yoruba for gameplay reasons.
would be funny to watch an entire economy of armenian vills getting cornered and killed one by one by a group of jannies in a finals game of a major tourney です
You didn't answer my question.
What prevents maphacking in tournaments? In Age of Empires 4, one player was banned from tournaments after several top players and tournament judges came to the conclusion that he was most likely maphacking a lot, but it took hours of discussion and investigation and looking at replays. If maphacking is a serious yet difficult to detect issue for tournament games in Age of Empires 4, why wouldn't the same be the case for Age of Empires 2?
They literally sit in a discord channel with an admin sharing their screen. Please tell me how they fricking avoid getting caught? Not to mention you can clearly see how they move their units. But nah frick me. It's all easily circumvented and the players who have been at the top for the past 10-15 years are all maphackers and nobody cares because there's a giant conspiracy.
Anonymous
Screensharing isn't foolproof at all. I won't go into details, but it's perfectly possible to have data sent to a different machine, and communicate some way with that.
And when Age of Empires 4 can end up banning a player from tournaments after extensive investigation of whether maphacking occurred, it stands to reason that the same is possible for Age of Empires 2.
And how would their movement of units necessarily reveal maphacking?
Also, nice strawmen.
Fundamentally, it doesn't seem possible to really effectively defend against maphacking in a game like Age of Empires, even in tournaments. For all information is available to all players' computers. Either you remove fog of war, or basically only prevent maphacking-cheating in LAN tournaments.

As long as the maphacking player is not obvious about using maphacking, but more subtle, how would it reveal it? Why would it take hours of review for top players and judges in Age of Empires 4 for them to determine that a tournament player was maphacking before banning him?

There's no point in this shit. Game is bloated enough as it is.
Any other civ will undoubtely be either the same shit as we already have or just flat out weird and OP like release sicilians/burgundians.
There's also no more architecture styles left to add new civs unless they somehow SPLEET existing architecture sets which is a dumb idea regardless. I just want unique Monasteries / Monks / Castle skins for existing civs instead of new shit.
So what new content would you like to see that isn't civs? I agree that there are enough civs and for a new player learning the game takes weeks right now with all the unique units, techs, civ bonuses, etc
I like new civs but there's a point when you have to stop

>I want to see the water gameplay completely reworked
They had the chance in aoe4 and they missed in a moronic way by making a stupid game that is worst than aoe2. You are not going to see dev work being spent on that because is expensive and it needs to be accompanied by a DLC to justify the cost
>I want to see the water gameplay completely reworked. >Rome at War
I haven't played Rome at War, but I did see Spirit of the Law's video on it. I have to say, that's a lot of ships. It's a lot harder to distinguish between ships than land military.
For me it's new game modes / datasets like RoR.
Even if it's just random ass autistic shit like the old Age of Chivalry mods while still using mostly AoE2 graphics or completely absurd stuff like a port of that star wars rts or similar other stuff made on aoe2 engine that benefits from all QOL stuff it already has.
As for exclusively AoE2 shit, each civ should get a campaign and that's it.
Are crossbows bugged too? Every time I click on an unit and they kill it they start to move around and reposition until they finish and then start to shoot again, doesn't matter if you have offensive position or stand ground enabled. I'm not sure if it has always been like this but I have the feeling that it wasn't
The implied descriptions seem pretty simple >What if a civ could get endless gold in 1v1s? >What if a civ could counter all unit types from a distance?
So RoR is just AoE1 ported to AoE2? Doesn't that kind of defeat the entire point of playing AoE1? I mean specially at this point AoE2DE isn't even te same game at AoE2 at launch. Doesn't just porting all of 1 frick up the entire game?
AoE1 DE is shit
RoR and AoE2 are essentially separate game mods >Explain?
No, frick you. I've been doing that for weeks and that was when there were multiple posts explaining it in the threads at the time of the update.
That's dumb, just talk whatever dumb thing you want to discuss here, the bulk of the posters (that watch tourneys, actually play and discuss the game) are on the other thread so you can make this one whatever you want to talk
Until the other thread dies and this one gets occupied
They already patch these out, but for the first release of the PUP, these revolution flag were found. Now keep in mind that every civ in the game has a revolution flag version like this, since I guess they can also be used for the Embassy or to make your own on the editor. Also while they play around with history accuracy, Denmark revolution with Sweden would be too weird since it was the other way around. Since they went out of their way to remove this, I guess we know what's the next DLC is gonna be.
Also picrel, RIP Brazil Empire civ. I blame the political bullshit down here, but who knows the real cause, maybe they couldn't figure out on how to make it unique enough without touching on slavery. I was betting on it centering around Imperial provinces, since we did had exactly 20 of those, not even counting Uruguay. Maybe it was the lack of flags...
>I blame the political bullshit down here, but who knows the real cause, maybe they couldn't figure out on how to make it unique enough without touching on slavery.
Three reasons: >Game devs live in perpetual fear of becoming the "Toy chattel" guys who make simulating slave abuse the optimal strategy for winning >Game devs don't want to become the "Slavery erasure" guys who whitewashed something as damned as Brazil >Brazil has no real military history. Fricking up Paraguay gets you no credits.
has no real military history. Fricking up Paraguay gets you no credits.
I mean, I don't think Brazil ever tried to make it seems Argentina and Uruguay didn't do anything on that 3v1...
>Brazil has no real military history. Fricking up Paraguay gets you no credits.

Anon is baiting hard, of course a country of that size had to had a strong military to not facture like it's neighbors did, it's just that for most of it's history as an independent nation, Brazil doesn't have an obvious 'enemy nation' to war with, and it maintains this stance to this day. Exam it's history of INTERNAL conflicts (the Regency between Pedro I and II were full of insurgency, for instance) and one can see why.

Yes it is, having a military history does not means only warring with other nations, it also means maintaining it's own territory.
And to loop back to the topic, it was an big sized monarchy nation among a bunch of smaller, formerly spanish colonies federal states. An sizable, actual Empire. In a Age of Empires.

A large state surrounded by smaller states which makes no attempt at expanding its influence? And no one ever cared about it.

welp guess theres not much left they could add tbh that isnt already covered in revolution flags , italy and malta was already kind of stretching it out when it came to adding relevant civs of the time

Non-elite arambai benefit from chemistry, so you don't need to upgrade them to elite anymore.

They buffed rams because they have always been useless in castle age, they will still be pretty bad in ranked but better in the campaigns where you can't make trebs
Anon please, it was a joke, you can clearly see the difference in background colour between the elephant command card and the garrison number background The joke was that infantry can enter the elephant thru it's ass to make fight better, ala Ace Ventura coming out of the rhino's ass You genuinally falling for it made me extremely guilty, you ruined the joke and am sorry you got baited

This achievement is honestly not that hard, just by hard walling friendly TCs, hoplite rushing orange asap and then by spamming towers and have cavalry kite away teal's army it's pretty easy to get

Battering Rams are fantastic at destroying mangonels now since castle age. Siege is fun for the whole game.

But I don't really think is a good idea unless they specifically ask you for coaching.
+1 pierce armor per age from Feudal to all Barracks units, so if they're upgraded the best they can be for their time:
>Malian MAA 1/3 >Malian Long Swordsman 3/5 >Malian Champion 4/8
That's about taking 2 damage per shot from equivalent upgraded Archer line units in their respective ages. If Gambesons were to be on top of all this, shit's probably too close to Huskarls while being better melee fighters.
>opponents is Khmer >walls everything >doesn't make army >gets first to castle >booms >le me just make knights at a steady pace while booming >he reaches imperial with no army but always walled >just spam more stables >eventually breaches

>heavy scorpion hp from 50 to 55
Why are they so reluctant to give heavy scorps 8 range? The only thing this changes is that they are no longer oneshotted by mangos
Just getting back into the swing of the game after a year off, anybody got a build order for a Viking fast castle into infantry? I don't give a shit about archers.
Still looking for a build order, serious question. I'm playing with friends and having fun, we all spam the units that make us happy and Longswords / Champions are what make me happy.
It’s so strange to me how eager and confident people are about splitting up say Chinese or Persians, civs that have been in the game from the beginning and that comfortably represent adequately unified political/cultural entities through the entirety of the game’s targeted historical span. Indians were an ENTIRELY different situation, by God.
And all this while subsaharan Africa has only two civs in the game. I feel the most sensible remaining additions are a Nigerian-based civ (Benin/Yoruba), maybe a Kongolese civ, and perhaps a Zimbabwean and/or Swahili type.
Benin/Yoruba and Swahili would be good. Kanem, Nubians and Somalis would be fine too. The Kongolese would fit aoe3 better than aoe2. I'm not sure about Zimbabwe though.

dravidians are pretty good in open maps in 1v1 matches, the discount to barracks research(one of the main factors why infantry are slow to build up, now partially gone), the bonus 200 wood everytime you age up(a guaranteed 2 archery ranges+2bit axe if you had 8-10 wood vills in dark ages), and the food saved from upgrading the militia could go either to vills or fletching/inf armor, whichever youre doing best atm. in castle age, you got another 200, which could guarantee a TC and a siege workshop, or a siege workshop and a wood discounted mango/scorp(since at early castle, wood are pretty scarce), by late game, theres wootz steel that makes armoured units no issue, and you got fully upgraded arbs as well if you managed to keep your archers, and similar to malians siege workshop(siege onager and cannons but no siege engine)
but i could see this civ struggle in larger maps with more players since their mobility sucks, with the stables limited only to light cavs and non elite elephants with no bloodlines and husbandry, also im a mid ELO(1100) so it may wont work well in higher lvls of play
Even then it's also specifically about a shitty spin-off game when they're probably best going with the original if they had to insert funny mods. And Notch hasn't had anything to do with the game in a longass time; in fact Microsoft and Mojang alike would rather bury anything involving him within the IP if they can.
Where are the strengths of the Romans primarily would you say? Like should they attack in Feudal with MAA and then go Castle or rush straight to castle, or what?
Open question for anybody who thinks they know best.
In dark, feudal and early castle age, there's no real grand strategy but just to outplay your opponent, good rushing civs with good eco will usually outphase the romans, while they are good with infantry most people will open with archers regardless because archers are stupidly OP and are braindead easy to use.
With that in mind, being a good archer civ will give you a leg up, good scout rushing civ does it too tho scouts will get mauled by very tanky roman MAAs, and infantry can force an engament by razing your base
In late castle age, so far people like to open with centurions, they are extremely strong despite their price, then in imperial finish you with legionnaries. There's an odd chance the roman will do longswords in castle age but more often than not the roman will opt for a knight rush instead.
Being a good archer or cavalry archer civ will most likely do well vs romans. Also hope you get SOs or bombards to handle scorps.
I don't think archers will be that amazing against Romans, they can still pump out skirmishers, if your opponent goes archer + scout you also have the good spears to add in. And in castle age the Romans have insane scorps which should deal with crossbows
If were not making G xbows or xbows in castle age, a bad thing because you're using wood on an upgrade instead of units
If you're not making archers and rushing condos, it's a buff
Considering you usually only get the first archer armor it is good, when you fast imp you need food for chemistry and bracer, having a combat upgrade that doesn't cost food is good
Playing through Joan 6, this is the remainder of my troops after sacking the Burgundian base. Is it safe to continue or did I lose too many to recover quickly enough?
>Spawn them closer
No. This means you waste more time, get food in slower, and spent less time scouting than your opponent who can now take advantage of it.
From what I've seen this only motivates people to lame more. I've gotten 3 people to lame me since the patch dropped. They just get the sheep, find the boar and go straight for yours as fast as possible since they know they won't be pushing deer
Proposed change: >Archers no longer gain range from blacksmith upgrades >New archery range tech to give them +2 range (imperial age) >Ballistics made more expensive, gives archers +1 range
The problem is its clunkiness (also the fact that aoe2 armies do not fight like irl medieval armies did).
I think it could see some use if it >moved faster (so it can position itself more quickly >had 1 less range and a bigger hitbox for projectiles >dealt melee damage instead of pierce and got rid of the meme secondary projectiles. The secondary projectiles only make microing it less smooth and melee damage would give support to archers agains high pa targets
>Petard in >Valas just quickwalls everything >Counter attack is now completely useless
Building foundations should have negative armor holy frick it's so cancer
i thought one tit wasn't covered
Built to be gangraped by old Japanese Ashigaru
some based imperial jap actually fought with the VietMinh against globohomos.
A Japanese man actually governed Vietnam as an officer of the Tang back in the 8th century.
Copy a build order until you settle on a civ you like, then adjust that build order to do whatever you need it to.
That's what I'm saying. Learn the theory of the game
The build order will artificially raise you because weaker players don't know how to defend against it.
It will be harder to learn the other skills because the better player will punish experimentation.
Also it will be a crutch. You will feel like you have to use it or get beat badly.
>That's what I'm saying. Learn the theory of the game
Why would you skip practical experience to learn theory? Learn both.
Is it over for this game? Now when Hera dominates, nobody cares about it anymore. Aoe was only big because of Viper. People liked to watch him play.
Viper hasn't stopped playing.
Maybe biper shouldn't have sold his soul to Facebook then
newbie
perhaps Memb should have gotten a pro caster like Dave for the final.
Dave was co-casting with T90.
But Viper still plays. So does Daut. So does MBL. All of them are fun to watch.
>Is it over for this game?
You can also play the game yourself, you know.
>b-but if nobody plays why should I
The fact that this game recovered from being literally dead means nothing to tourney trannies
next civ pack ?
Easy.
next bullet? On your heads would be ideal
Australian Abbos
>not mapuche or charrua
Hopefully Tibetans/Tanguts/Jurchens and a chinese campaign.
the idea of only one region for dlc sucks. frick regional dlc outside of anything like Europe where people were interested for East Slavs and Dukes.
>I'd rather not have the game diluted
thats why the worst fricking case scenario would be another splitting
A regional DLC is the only type that makes sense, because it groups campaigns and architecture together. The idea that the game is pushing the limits on civs is preposterous, it could add another 30 civs comfortably.
That's why we need thematic DLCs, like the OG Conquerors expansion, e.g: "Keepers of the Passes", themed around people living in/ around mountains. Off the top of my head, you have 6 civs you could add in this:
>Swiss, Vlachs, Georgians, Armenians, Tocharians, Tibetans
Varied architecture, different playstyles, vast geographical representation.
If they add nations from a region I'm not interested in and only nations from that region, I'm not gonna buy the DLC, simple as.
If they pull from more regions, they can add multiple regional powers or whatever instead of scrounging up every little tribe because they NEED at least 2-4 civs.
>That's why we need thematic DLCs, like the OG Conquerors expansion
Good idea.
>e.g: "Keepers of the Passes", themed around people living in/ around mountains
Not this. This is a shit idea. have a nice day.
>I want to see the water gameplay completely reworked.
That's somehow even worse than spleetposting.
How is that worse? It's one of the biggest complaints in the game. Nobody fricking plays water maps in the map pool. They have some of the lowest play rates.
There's a reason Arabia is considered standard and not Islands.
Ok so we won't work on any problems plaguing the game and we'll just keep making more Arabia-like tournaments. Worthless Black person.
This is only a problem to forumtrannies like you.
>forumtrannies
?????
>Swiss
They're Teutons. Stop suggesting Swiss.
What the hell is wrong with whoever made this poll? The overwhelming majority of these civs listed are not umbrella civs. He's just listing subgroups or random neighboring civs that are mostly not even related. It's like this guy has zero understanding of history, ethnography and aoe2's design.
>Chinese/Koreans
Why the hell would you even list Chinese and Koreans together? Sino-Tibetans, Koreans and Jurchens are not related to each other. Chinese is not an umbrella that includes Tibetans and Tanguts
>Slavs
Slavs is an umbrella civ in name only
>Malians
Mossi and Songhai are not related to Malians. If anything he could have listed Fon/Dahomey, but he didn't.
>Ethiopians
Nubians and Swahilis are not related to Ethiopians. Exactly how are Somalis represented in Ethiopians?
>Aztecs/Mayans
NONE of these five listed groups are related to each other at all. How are we even talking about umbrella civs here?
>Incas
Chimus and Muiscas are not related to Incas
>Italians/Sicilians
These are all the same civilisation
>Saracens
These are all the same civilisation
>Goths
Lombards and Saxons are not Eastern Germanic
>Teutons
Same civ, and we already have Saxons
>Britons
You already mentioned both Saxons and Welsh
>Khmers/Vietnamese
Chams are not related to these peoples. Khmers and Vietnamese don't include Mons in their design. How is this an umbrella split?
>Persians
Alans and Kurds are not represented by Persians. Khwarzms literally are Persians. Are we making dynasties now?
STOP TALKING ABOUT ETHNOGRAPHY IF YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT
STOP PUTTING CIVS TOGETHER THAT ARE NOT RELATED
STOP SEEING UMBRELLAS IF THEY'RE NOT THERE
STOP CALLING NEW CIVS SPLITS
>Mossi and Songhai are not related to Malians. If anything he could have listed Fon/Dahomey, but he didn't.
Besides the Gbeto being Fon, what exactly about Malians is not Malian?
>Besides the Gbeto being Fon, what exactly about Malians is not Malian?
The infantry pierce armor bonus, which comes from infantry dodging projectiles, but that's a feature of open-formation fighting, which was much more common in the tropics. Also, it can be argued that, as Timbuktu wasn't fully-realized as a madrassa until the Askias enlarged it, the TB would be either Songhai or Hausa.
I see, interesting.
What's your point?
>Benin above Mossi & Yoruba
>Ghana being treated as fundamentally different than Mali
"Relevance" is a shit statistic.
The best pick is still Hausa/Yoruba for gameplay reasons.
I make elephant archers.
Your map is incredibly cluttered. Do we really need 4 French flags and 5 Chinese ones? Do we really need all the aoe3 revolutions?
>watching pros play competitively
>not watching Ornlu play single player
Armenians should be a must imho. I dont know how they are not in the game yet we have sicilians and burgundians
would be funny to watch an entire economy of armenian vills getting cornered and killed one by one by a group of jannies in a finals game of a major tourney です
I can already here memb screaming "AY AY AY ITS A GENOCIDE AAYY MIERDA!"
>Hera still hasn't figured out Bengalis.

Get your shitty ass gimmicks out of my face
I play Berbers.
Berbers is fine
But none of that protects against maphacking in tournaments. Easy to bypass.
What do you mean?
Are there really no protection against maphacking in tournaments?
You're right, Anon. Every pro is actually a map hacking cheater. Congratulations.
>You didn't answer my question
People already answered your question multiple times and lowered themselves to talk to you enough.
Why do you lie?
They literally sit in a discord channel with an admin sharing their screen. Please tell me how they fricking avoid getting caught? Not to mention you can clearly see how they move their units. But nah frick me. It's all easily circumvented and the players who have been at the top for the past 10-15 years are all maphackers and nobody cares because there's a giant conspiracy.
Why not be kinder to yourself?
>And how would their movement of units necessarily reveal maphacking?
Good bye.
As long as the maphacking player is not obvious about using maphacking, but more subtle, how would it reveal it? Why would it take hours of review for top players and judges in Age of Empires 4 for them to determine that a tournament player was maphacking before banning him?
But how would that be proven?
I am hera, I won thanks to maphacking. Keep crying

Hera is fricking unwatchable

What's the appeal of watching the perspective of only one player and they're quiet most of the time anyways?
I watch pro team games for the rage in discord.
Viper and MbL screaming at each other never gets old.
>What's the appeal of watching the perspective of only one player
Some players are entertaining personalities and its interesting to get their perspective as they walk through their thought process (Daut, Viper, MBL)
>and they're quiet most of the time anyways?
These players are shit to watch. (Hera, Memb)
>These players are shit to watch. Hera
Motherfricker refuses to comment his games and one literally only listen to his keyboard/mouse. Quite sad considering that he is capable of excellent content to learn
It's even made worse by how loud his mouse and keyboard are. homie, we can see your APM we don't have to hear it too. His scripted content isn't bad but him live is just rough...
IM GONNA SPLEEEEEEEET
We should split sumerians into akkadians, sumerians and elamites
They're all unrelated to each other though.
i was just joking, i have exactly 0 clue about ancient history

Arena clowns are such fricking pussies.
why was this iteration of King of the Desert of soulless and without any hype?
are people finally fed up with Arabia?
Will arena save the game??
Nobody cares about Hera winning.
most series were one-sided, no matter what happens throughout these weeks of play you know that its going to be some combination of yo/viper/vinch/hera/larry playing out the last few games. so nothing before these matches creates much suspense. sitaux v larry was pretty crazy but you know sitaux will get knocked out by hera or viper eventually
>20/21 pop feudal is now considered pretty late

What do we think about this? Honestly I feel like dark age is boring as shit so the faster it's over the better but I'm not sure
>18/19pop
Woah dude are you a michi player or something lmao we 11 pop feudal now

I don't consider Hra to be a real player when he can abrely get through the first campaign mission of single player.
Viper is called silver boy for a reason you know
What? Really? Please post a link.
>forgetting Celts
Bruh, imagine a full length Star Wars campaign for the Mayans. Dos Pilas is not enough.
That anon is wrong, Hera doesn't play single player at all on Stream
It's Viper who sucks at SP
Oh okay, thanks.
Just out of curiosity, are there pros who have said they never play campaigns at all?
William Wallace exists
Come on, it's not a real campaign any of us, at this point, can play for fun.
Do we have an explanation to what happened to larry in the last kotd?
Not one that you want to believe, so no.
Not even your mother wants to hear about your map hacking theory crafting
I think you meant that for the guy I was responding to, although I could've worded my own response better.
I guess the players that actually went ahead just did their homework and payed off... maybe even mbl

i love how always when the master of arena is announced all these so-called arena pros are so excited and dream about winning and then comes good old RM players who play arena once in a while and kick their clown asses. bunch of clowns on clown map. its like ln or bf, they are good/high rate cause its clown map and no one good actually play that map regularly but when they do, they kick those clowns back to HD.

Nobody gives a shit about chinks
not before the vlach, serbian, armenian and georgian DLC
There's absolutely no reason we'd get any of those.
There's a case to be made for Vlachs because the Vlad campaign uses placeholder civs.
Nobody cares for any of those
Forgot the Swiss.
Halbs
>literally the only thing it made them relevant
>every civ can use them hence emulating the swiss mercenary
They'd obviously get +1 range on spear units as a civ bonus plus Imperial Halberdier or something to upgrade them to deal +96 dmg to elephants.
The swiss would be nice but they would have to work around pikes probably and there are so many civs that have something pikemen related already
The Swiss are Teutons.
Hearing Jurchens and Tibetans will be added, and there will be a campaign set during Tang dynasty era China. Expected late 2023.

Where?
Gentlemen it is with great distress that i inform you i have no idea how to play arena TG. Every game just seems a booming contest
Go gothic flank
Have a mate going cuman pocket
MAA + Ram push
Have fun every game
Just boom then. If nobody attacks you then enjoy life, if they do the frick you because the chances of your teammate helping are really low unless you play with friends
I hate how monks are so useless against meso civs. Sometimes I just wanna monk rush somebody but doing it against one is asking to lose
Bring villagers and wall them up, checkmate meso cucks.
I just learned that you can convert towers with monks after 2000 hours of playtime
>looked at monastery techs for the first time
you can heal farms with monks
woah....... so this is the power...... of religion.............
For me it's Khmae
I just missclick deleted like 30 Coustilliers in the middle of a ranked match while trying to delete a palisade wall and lost the game
You'd have lost it anyways
Nah, that fight would have probably won me the game
Too bad you fricked it up
The new Return of Rome DLC is great, and the best thing about it is how it has filtered so many plebs. gays seething because they can't spam infinite cav archers and rams like in the base game lmao
>Le we need more civs!
100% homosexuals and Black folk
>proving the point is right
Alright then.
I just want unique Monasteries / Monks / Castle skins for existing civs instead of new shit.
luv me some SPLEET posting
Dynasties of India and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
How do you misclick and delete 30 coustillier in one button instead of a single palisade wall? Did your face slip and smash into the keyboard?
I was trying to select those palisade walls behind the arbs with a double click and instead clicked on the coustillier, simple as
So what new content would you like to see that isn't civs? I agree that there are enough civs and for a new player learning the game takes weeks right now with all the unique units, techs, civ bonuses, etc
I like new civs but there's a point when you have to stop
>So what new content would you like to see that isn't civs?
I want to see the water gameplay completely reworked. It's been shit for 20 years and it's about time they tried to address it. If you've played the Rome at War mod I'm hoping it'd look something like that. I also want the matchmaking/ranked system overhauled. 1v1s are fine for the most part but the team game system is fricking horrid.
Additionally I'd like to have a rotating set of maps that replace the Empire Wars 1v1/TG tabs.
>Tournament 1v1 map pool
Can feature past tournaments or feature maps from the whatever big tournament is currently happening and will last until the next big one gets announced
>Team Game Tournament Map Pool
Bit smaller, but Battle of Africa maps and maybe permanent editions from Nation's Cup that never see the light of day in the map pool vote.
Civs, balance patches, maps, and game modes, in that order..
More coop campaigns
this is an example of aoe2 driving itself into a corner with how it did civs, aoe4 did it right

I'm not sure if it has always been like this but I have the feeling that it wasn't
Yes, happens with HC's too. Everything is fricked
As Macedonians what do you even do when the enemy goes chariots into horse archers? Just die?
Splitting for the sake of it or "muh historical accuracy " is how you end up with bland civs like italians and Portuguese

>What if a civ could get endless gold in 1v1s?
>What if a civ could counter all unit types from a distance?
>>What if a civ could counter all unit types from a distance?

So RoR is just AoE1 ported to AoE2? Doesn't that kind of defeat the entire point of playing AoE1? I mean specially at this point AoE2DE isn't even te same game at AoE2 at launch. Doesn't just porting all of 1 frick up the entire game?
AoE1 DE is shit
RoR and AoE2 are essentially separate game mods
>Explain?
No, frick you. I've been doing that for weeks and that was when there were multiple posts explaining it in the threads at the time of the update.

AoEII just feels boring in comparison.
ok
bump
There's another, more active AoE II thread you blind moron
We know but we keeping this thread shelved for when the other one dies
You knowing, keeping this thread in the fridge until then
Waste not
What the other guy said. We should make an AoE SP thread and an AoE MP thread, just to be fair.
That's dumb, just talk whatever dumb thing you want to discuss here, the bulk of the posters (that watch tourneys, actually play and discuss the game) are on the other thread so you can make this one whatever you want to talk
Until the other thread dies and this one gets occupied
>Win a match in Imp
>Ride the high for the rest of the day
This game feels so good.

The frick happened here?

Oh shit, they might actually do something with Denmark and Poland. Glad this game is not written-off due to AoM Retold.
whats that ? datamined flag icons ?
Three reasons:
>Game devs live in perpetual fear of becoming the "Toy chattel" guys who make simulating slave abuse the optimal strategy for winning
>Game devs don't want to become the "Slavery erasure" guys who whitewashed something as damned as Brazil
>Brazil has no real military history. Fricking up Paraguay gets you no credits.
has no real military history. Fricking up Paraguay gets you no credits.
I mean, I don't think Brazil ever tried to make it seems Argentina and Uruguay didn't do anything on that 3v1...
>Brazil has no real military history. Fricking up Paraguay gets you no credits.
Ackshually BR has an interesting military history in the 19th century, it just isn't as famous as Mexico. And the thing with slaves can be ignored completely, as it was done with the US civ.
>Ackshually BR has an interesting military history in the 19th century, it just isn't as famous as Mexico.
Name the conflicts and tell me why anyone outside of BR would give a shit.
>And the thing with slaves can be ignored completely
See issue no. 2. America can get away with it because there's other stuff to focus on. Brazil was just a coastline covered in slaves until the 19th century.
What's Brazil covered in now?
Trees?
Anon is baiting hard, of course a country of that size had to had a strong military to not facture like it's neighbors did, it's just that for most of it's history as an independent nation, Brazil doesn't have an obvious 'enemy nation' to war with, and it maintains this stance to this day. Exam it's history of INTERNAL conflicts (the Regency between Pedro I and II were full of insurgency, for instance) and one can see why.
>Anon is baiting hard, of course a country of that size had to had a strong military to not facture like it's neighbors did
Not what we're talking about. They have no military history.
>They have no military history
No kidding, a country with less than 300 years. What else would you expect
Seeing how America defeated the world's strongest Thalassocracy in its home waters, and fought pirates in the Mediterranean in just the first 50 years of its existence...
>Not what we're talking about.
>Yes it is, having a military history does not means only warring with other nations, it also means maintaining it's own territory.
Okay, add Hawaii.
>it was an big sized monarchy nation among a bunch of smaller, formerly spanish colonies federal states. An sizable, actual Empire.
A large state surrounded by smaller states which makes no attempt at expanding its influence? And no one ever cared about it.
>Dlc focused on poland Lithuania and Denmark
welp guess theres not much left they could add tbh that isnt already covered in revolution flags , italy and malta was already kind of stretching it out when it came to adding relevant civs of the time
I did wish they would do something outside of Europe first, there is some leftover data that points towards an unfinished Morocco/Barbary Coast civ, for instance.
hopefully the Thor skin will have a thunder animation when uses the skill

What about Arambai and Kipchaks?
>Arambai

Non-elite arambai benefit from chemistry, so you don't need to upgrade them to elite anymore.
Who the frick is ramgay?
They buffed rams because they have always been useless in castle age, they will still be pretty bad in ranked but better in the campaigns where you can't make trebs
>they will still be pretty bad in ranked
Rams are a good example of a team game unit along with elephants.
So...a unit so bad that it can't find itself a place in 1v1.
I don't think anyone will deny battering rams are shit, capped rams are fine, and Siege Ram are great.
magyar buffs?
let's fricking go
Here is your buffed ram bro
>8/8
Explain
You increase the speed and attack bonus vs buildings by garrisoning inside the elephant
I mean, is this the PUP? A mod? Right now, elephants aren't permitted a garrison.
It's the PUP, infantry now can enter the elephant to make it perform better
NICE. What changes? Speed? Damage? Anything else?
Anon please, it was a joke, you can clearly see the difference in background colour between the elephant command card and the garrison number background
The joke was that infantry can enter the elephant thru it's ass to make fight better, ala Ace Ventura coming out of the rhino's ass
You genuinally falling for it made me extremely guilty, you ruined the joke and am sorry you got baited
Anon, you edited it too well. I am a fool.
I'm sorry laddie
gujaras+briton+ magyars should be fun in team games.
I thought this was the AoE2 thread?
It's more of a "hand-me-down" now for our bottom-feeding little brothers.
These idiots need to make an aoe3 thread and frick off to there.
guess game with decent pathing get priority
For real, aside from this baiting dumbass anon, there is not much to talk about on III, it was just an medium sized update, usual balance changes and such, some new units and visual changes for many european units. If it were a actual DLC then maybe it would warrant a thread. I'm just glad the game dev is still ongoing.
where is her nose?
This achievement is honestly not that hard, just by hard walling friendly TCs, hoplite rushing orange asap and then by spamming towers and have cavalry kite away teal's army it's pretty easy to get
They nerfed the shit out of teal and made blue less moronic. It was a pain in the ass on hard for me.
>same range as HC
>same damage as HC

what's the fricking point of janissaries now
>Comes out an age earlier
>More HP

>More damage
>More armor
>>More HP
>>More range
>>More damage
>>More armor
all verifiably false for the non-elite janny
Why are you comparing the Non-Elite Janissary to HCs?
no one ever makes elite janissaries so might as well
They don't because the normal Janissary is enough. With the range nerf, that should change.
Yeah true, why make Jannisaries when everybody else can make Hand Cannoners in Castle Age?
Can't believe Ram rushing onagers is no longer a meme.
After so much autistic discussion I cant believe Ramgay got that unit buffed, almost feels like the devs are reading these threads.
BOY I SURE DISLIKE ARCHERS I THINK THEY ARE TOO GOOD
I THINK INFANTRY NEEDS TO BE FURTHER BUFFED
REMOVE PALIDASE WALLS FROM THE GAME
>almost feels like the devs are reading these threads.
They have to be. I can't imagine members of an elevated modding team would just ignore Ganker.
Battering Rams are fantastic at destroying mangonels now since castle age. Siege is fun for the whole game.
I guess Celts will need a nerf after this.
What's the hotkey for changing the keyboard language. Lost a match because it changed to fricking chinese and couldn't find the way to change it

Speaking of which, would a 'ferry' option ala SupCom make them a lot more easier to manage?
are persians getting reworked?
what would be the rework you would do to persians ?
>inb4 civ splitting between different persian dynasties
I dunno i just asked because the pup notes seemed to imply a rework
Do people really have difficulties distinguishing between Unique Units?
The keshik and steppe lancer look like the same unit
No they dont
Agree, keshik should've had a big shield or a different colored horse.
You are blind.
Between civs definitely, which does not make sense
i legit saw peoples complaint and say that there should be a visual difference between Unique units and their Elite upgrade
>4 arena games in a row in the ladder

>get into a quick play game
>everyone either resigns immediately, or absolutely outplays me, finishing getting to Feudal by the time Im about to start it, sending in raids and raping me
The actual gameplay is really fun, but god, it feels like Im twenty years too late for trying to get into this
In the lower elos you're going to be matched against total newbs and smurf accounts with nothing in between. Keep playing until you break through the shit barrier and you'll start playing some proper decent matches.
Don't play quick play. Kinda tempted to make an alt account to help new Anons practice these days.
They wouldn't appreciate it
>t. projecting his unironical toxicity
But I don't really think is a good idea unless they specifically ask you for coaching.
Gentlemen how do i 24+2 fc on arena? I just never have enough food for going to castle after the 2 vills and i dont know where i am fricking up
How many farms are you putting down?
2 on dark age
Either add more farms or put a few more on gold for market tricks. Also make sure you are collecting every bit of hunt
You need 3-4 depending on the civ.
>Making farms in the dark age
Have you never done a fast castle build before?
Ah. I misread.
>Make elephant
>It gets caught in a wall
>Don't notice
>Malians get Gambesons
How good would they be now?
They get natural +1 pierce armor right?
If that's so doesn't change anything in a lot of matchups because the arrows were already doing 1.
+1 pierce armor per age from Feudal to all Barracks units, so if they're upgraded the best they can be for their time:
>Malian MAA 1/3
>Malian Long Swordsman 3/5
>Malian Champion 4/8
That's about taking 2 damage per shot from equivalent upgraded Archer line units in their respective ages. If Gambesons were to be on top of all this, shit's probably too close to Huskarls while being better melee fighters.
>opponents is Khmer
>walls everything
>doesn't make army
>gets first to castle
>booms
>le me just make knights at a steady pace while booming
>he reaches imperial with no army but always walled
>just spam more stables
>eventually breaches
oh surprise
>flood his base
>win
>spam 11 in chat
We need to fix the map pool voting system.
>heavy scorpion hp from 50 to 55
Why are they so reluctant to give heavy scorps 8 range? The only thing this changes is that they are no longer oneshotted by mangos
That's the point, they can fire back at least twice in a 1v1
Mangonels, onagers or siege onagers? It's a big improvement either way
>Unkillable pierce armor
>Blocks arrows
>Faster with full garrison
>220 hp(300+ as celt)
>Bypasses walls
Why they haven't nerfed this thing yet?
they die hard to elephants and petards. No need to nerf
>Lack of stances means it runs off whenever it's hit.
Whatever happened to the aoe2 /vst/ discord
There was an aoe2 /vst/ discord? Why? What's wrong with these threads?
Might as well. As a megaboomer I think it was ok

Why do Persians need a rework again?
Extrmely bland civ. Boom to Pala with trash anti-halb
>Pala
Why even bother posting if you're too lazy to type out the word paladin?
>Extremely bland civ
>Wahhhh it's not flashy enough
Poor Sicilians and Slavs.
Slavs have momentum and interesting support options. Sicilians are flashy with all of their bonuses.
Gambesons made their trashbows deal only 2 damage to FU champions
As if anyone makes champions anyway.
As if Persians would make crossbows against champions anyway.
>As if anyone makes champions anyway.
Anon, I play 80% of my games only making the Militia line + rams.
They have Hand Cannons for that.
Just getting back into the swing of the game after a year off, anybody got a build order for a Viking fast castle into infantry? I don't give a shit about archers.
>Viking fast castle into infantry?
So, a 27+2 into Resign? Sure.
It's 600-800 range, don't worry about it it works well enough if they think I'm actually going to get archers and try to pre-emptively counter that.
Still looking for a build order, serious question. I'm playing with friends and having fun, we all spam the units that make us happy and Longswords / Champions are what make me happy.
Just take a knight build order and swap out shit for infantry bro
Is there a Vikings specific Knight order you would recommend, then?
No because who the frick goes Vikings knights?

>There's still a minimum of 2 games after this
Holy frick
I'm not sure about Zimbabwe though.
>ignorant and proud!
Frick off
Black person

Doesn't change at all for vikings, it's ok to use them in castle age as you transition to the infantry you want to play like champions or berserk
Chinese don't need to be split. We just need more (non-Han) chinese civs.

Can someone tell me which RoR civs are top tier so I can stop having fun with them?
Malay, but they're about to be nerfed. After that, Burmese, I suppose.
Return of Rome, not Rise of [the] Rajas, butthole the Malay nerf makes zero sense and that pisses me off
>Take gambesons away from Malay and give it to Britons
Britons getting skirmisher immune champions is a bad idea

JonSlow takes 50% off his prize money for his placement.
It's appropriate answer but john slow is a Arena homosexual israelite that can go suck a bag uncuted unwashed dicks. Why do we even have to pretend Arena is not an outdated shitty map
>Why do we even have to pretend Arena is not an outdated shitty map
This. I'd rather see Fortified clearing or Fortress(Regicide) played instead.
Nicov is a great player but he's such a whiny gay sometimes
In the judith campaign, there is an instance where somebody offers you to pay 6 million gold and they give you 4 rams, I paid and received nothing, is that a bug or a scripted scam?
>judith
uhhh. Who?
Yodith
You need to send more because of tribute fee I think
When's the new patch? Also I agree, nerfing the Malay was completely unnecesary
90% sure devs nerfed Malay infantry to reinforce the Infantry-elephant bromance
They are looking for a tester at Forgotten Empires (some of the devs of the Definitives Edition) in my country. Do you think I should I apply? I have no idea about being a tester but I have years of playing AoE2 and other AoE games so maybe I could give it a shot even if I look like an idiot
Literally all you do is play the game and report broken shit that's not working as intended.
I guess I could at least tell them to fix the transport ships before the other anon get a hernia
Okay I applied, I don't expect a response but whatever. Maybe they'll fix the vill pathfinding if I scream at them hard enough

Thank predditors and forumtrannies for that.
i have no words
I never bother with that shit anyway
I don't know why you're surprised. It's either some sort of battlepass/seasonal system or constantly DLCs to keep funding the game. You guys don't them to keep spitting civs and this is probably the next thing on the list to do.
i prefer civ dlcs personnaly than a fricking season pass
We can have both.
I'd pay for campaign packs, provided they're good and appropriately priced.
Good. Let them be some esthetic changes
Can someone tell me what this means?
It means forumtrannies won.

Which is better for doing a Douche; Persians for the obvious bonuses or Portuguese for faster wood collection to get it out earlier?
>Portuguese for more wood
Persians already start with +75w +75f
It's +50f, +50w.
I know, but my friend is convinced they're better for a douche than Persians because of the recent t90 video where he got fricked by it.
Wow, the professional player T90 lost to it, that means its a super good strategy.
You need more than some extra resources to pull off a douche, Berbers is a better douching civ than portuguese

good , holy shit defending the forums for the achievement was cancer because of that
>no skeleton feudal archer with the minecraft sound effect
Soulless as frick
defeated a same dude thrice for the last 3 days, 2 with dravidians, 1 with romans
dravidians are pretty good in open maps in 1v1 matches, the discount to barracks research(one of the main factors why infantry are slow to build up, now partially gone), the bonus 200 wood everytime you age up(a guaranteed 2 archery ranges+2bit axe if you had 8-10 wood vills in dark ages), and the food saved from upgrading the militia could go either to vills or fletching/inf armor, whichever youre doing best atm. in castle age, you got another 200, which could guarantee a TC and a siege workshop, or a siege workshop and a wood discounted mango/scorp(since at early castle, wood are pretty scarce), by late game, theres wootz steel that makes armoured units no issue, and you got fully upgraded arbs as well if you managed to keep your archers, and similar to malians siege workshop(siege onager and cannons but no siege engine)
but i could see this civ struggle in larger maps with more players since their mobility sucks, with the stables limited only to light cavs and non elite elephants with no bloodlines and husbandry, also im a mid ELO(1100) so it may wont work well in higher lvls of play
misclick a reply, meant for
>Minecraft
Either Notch paid MS a frickton of money to shill his shit game, or MS doesnt know it's audience.
Or both.
Even then it's also specifically about a shitty spin-off game when they're probably best going with the original if they had to insert funny mods. And Notch hasn't had anything to do with the game in a longass time; in fact Microsoft and Mojang alike would rather bury anything involving him within the IP if they can.
>the ghost is real
God eagles and archers are so hard to tackle
Also hi
The Legionnary powerspike is real
AD ARMA
PUGNAMUS!
>Pavise food cost changed to wood
Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
If were not making G xbows or xbows in castle age, a bad thing because you're using wood on an upgrade instead of units
If you're not making archers and rushing condos, it's a buff
Considering you usually only get the first archer armor it is good, when you fast imp you need food for chemistry and bracer, having a combat upgrade that doesn't cost food is good
Late Food = Wood turned into Farms
So Wood will always be higher if you're refreshing camps and have the same amount of vills on both resources.
>The roman's theme

Was this in the patch notes?
If they did do this it is about time, deer pushing is too profitable
>deer now spawn further away
Barely noticed it, still lure 2 deer
they should've made them spawn closer, it was already fricking annoying pushing them, also
>minecraft event
sovl tbh
>Spawn them closer
No. This means you waste more time, get food in slower, and spent less time scouting than your opponent who can now take advantage of it.
From what I've seen this only motivates people to lame more. I've gotten 3 people to lame me since the patch dropped. They just get the sheep, find the boar and go straight for yours as fast as possible since they know they won't be pushing deer
Find your res then, you can compensate for being lamed by pushing deer
How can someone find his sheep, his boar, cross the map, and find your sheep before you do, though?
>let's start Barbarossa, it's rated one sword, so it's gotta be easy

Is that easy
You can rush down 1 or even 2 enemies in the beginning to make things easier

its on michi
Still dies to FU champions and archers.
do you genuinely believe you won't get outproduced by 80+ profused barracks?
No, but husks die like little b***hes by FU champions and gothic champions die like little b***hes to arbalests.
Heavy scorpions.
Gentlemen, how do we fix this?
Unironically, by giving Bohemians gambeson.
The problem is its clunkiness (also the fact that aoe2 armies do not fight like irl medieval armies did).
I think it could see some use if it

>had 1 less range and a bigger hitbox for projectiles
>dealt melee damage instead of pierce and got rid of the meme secondary projectiles. The secondary projectiles only make microing it less smooth and melee damage would give support to archers agains high pa targets

He needed blast furnace earlier, sergeants have low damage and high tankiness, so Dravidian halbs have a chance with upgrades
