The subtext of this...it's a little hard to understand. Could it *mean* "something?"
Lol, Bob is a JRPG villain trapped in a WRPG world
>Bob's face when You're gonna burn, alright comes true
S'COOL
Good thing that hipster art director is gone for the sequel
so glad, there were so many areas with moronic art contrivances which made no sense whatsoever like a bunch of lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling for no reason
Lightbulbs on a ceiling? WHAT??? game fricking ruined
>so many areas with moronic art contrivances
those were my favorite parts
modern deus ex leans into design/interesting things to look at , it goes well with the exploran aspect
soulless gays. hope you enjoy the lifeless sequel
I will enjoy it once it will be purged from its weeb influences, style over substance kun
>art isn't art if its obvious
okay, morons.
lemme guess a minority/gay made this
white american, actually
the harbingers of cancer
Nope, white dude, but an alcoholic and serial adulterer that died drunk driving into a tree, and took a female passenger with him.
Agreed. He's pretty much the progenitor of those fricktards shoving spaghetti-os up the vegana and bleeding out their pussy onto canvases and calling it art. Why bother having standards or trying when you can just fart out a literal log of shit onto a plate, call it a piece about social stigmatization of some irrelevant minority, and potentially get millions for it? Sad state of affairs.
Pollock is shit, prime example of pretentiousness in art
Icarus wings dum dum
ah yes..too close to the sun....but also savior of mankind who are divided in this human revolution...the deus ex machina here.
It's a good shot ur just a bitter moron
while I am moronic you'll be plussed to learn I'm jubilant and quite fun
icarus wings, also lore connotations about Adam being JC prototype, moron
so how are candy bars sufficient to power augs?
They have electrolytes
>cool piece of vidya cinematography
>let me dumb it down so I can pretend to be smart to my moronic friends on a Chinese cartoon forum
miserable
I don't understand why Deus Ex gets shit for this yet MGS which takes a pretty obvious metaphor or symbolism and beats it over your head a couple hundred times is okay.
MGS doesn't get a pass. It kinda falls into the extreme end of the spectrum which gives it a campy charm. Nu Deus Ex on the other hand wants to be this overly serious conspiracy flick with social commentary
>Kinda falls on the extreme end
homie liquid is shooting down fighter jets with a helicoptor in the opening cutscene. A feat that is actually impossible no matter how much super soldier genes and nanomachine plot armor you give him.
The only thing Kojima beats people over the head with are that his games are fiction.
Why wouldn't it get a pass? Its supposed to be impossible
Because only you homosexuals take MGS seriously.
The fans love MGS because its a cartoony scifi anime that only looks serious on the surface.
You arent supposed to be taking the giant nuclear mech game seriously. NOTHING in MGS makes sense.
I swear people shitting on Kojima/MGS are the actual autists. Its not real life, you know that, right? He is just having fun
>The fans love MGS because its a cartoony scifi anime that only looks serious on the surface.
>You arent supposed to be taking the giant nuclear mech game seriously. NOTHING in MGS makes sense.
Yet I see constantly 3 hour long video essays analyzing how "deep" the games are and a ton of people proclaiming how MGS is "the apogee of storytelling" in videogames, including this very board. So what is it?
That guy your talking to is a moron. Mgs is a serious story with humor sprinkled around because its a wacky japanese game.
mgs has an entertaining story, the presentation is half the fun the other half is thinking about the ideas presented in it. What do you struggle with here? Are you too dumb to figure this out? Do you think there is shame in this?
Just because it's cartoony doesn't mean it doesn't have serious moments
>cartoony presentation can't have a serious subtext to it
autists love the military larp
this guy i knew used to do the snake voice all the time, took these games absolutely seriously and believed they were 100% god's gift to moronic gamers
he also made bad copies of the songs from Devil May Cry 1 and 3, and told me he was an actual dragon
he managed to have a kid and named her Remedy
man gamers are fricked lmao
>Because only you homosexuals take MGS seriously.
>The fans love MGS because its a cartoony scifi anime that only looks serious on the surface.
>You arent supposed to be taking the giant nuclear mech game seriously. NOTHING in MGS makes sense.
imagine being too dumb to understand MGS lol. imagine being a deus ex fan
"a bomb!"
-smart writing from a smart game lmoa
explain the problem, in detail.
The problem is youtuberss apparently. I'm not sure who he is even disagreeing with other than his own autism.
People have YT fantheory vids about Jojo too and that series doesn't have any consistency or realism either.
>be MGSfriend
>consume zero media besides anime and a small selection of Japanese video games
>don't pay attention in school
>don't pay attention to current events
>historically illiterate
>"wow these characters just fricking standing around for 10 minutes in front of the final boss and discussing abstract events they vaguely conform to my own confirmation bias in the 2010s is PROFOUND...the MOST PROFOUND moment in gayming"
Explain what any of this means
MGS isn't very good. The reason MGS fans think it is is because they don't really partake in anything else, whether its other media or real events in the world around. There's a decent amount of media that's more specific and biting than any MGS for which I still wouldn't say
>"wow this is so fricking deep and meaningful and better than everything else"
>MGS isn't very good
False, don't start a post off with a lie.
Don't get me wrong, it has its niche, but that niche basically extends as far as Kojima's wacky cartoon brain overlayed on top of what are otherwise seriously portrayed events. And I'll say Kojima has a decent eye for cinematography in cutscenes, which is highly lacking in the industry. Everything else MGS does is done better in other games that don't get (and shouldn't) a constant unending circlejerk like the MGS series.
>Everything else MGS does is done better in other games
No, this is also untrue.
>How is Adam "flying too close to to the sun"?
because he got new arms and found out the news lady is an AI
>No, this is also untrue.
Okay, what does it do better? Just going off the themes praised in MGS2, it doesn't have shit on Deus Ex or even the first 2 Splinter Cells. Deus Ex actually cites real people, speeches, concepts within the US government, and other much older concepts in governance from the Enlightenment onward. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUNTEKH-EC8&ab_channel=PapitoQinn Shit makes MGS2 look like Captain Planet.
>explain the problem, in detail.
MGS2 sucks.
needs more angel wings
deus ex has better memes, hence why it's a better game
Have you ever even played Deus Ex?
90% of these videos are just history lessons, he's padding this out for income.
because
>thing
>thing, japan
Whenever large groups get together, like on Ganker or reddit, the dumbest people make up the largest segment of the population and try to drag everyone down to their level and it works for a decent chunk of people. It's only going to get worse from here, they will act like they are actually hyper intelligent consumers of literature and kino with extremely subtle symbolism but truly they watch Shonen made for manchildren and preteens.
Eidos really loved their Icarus symbolism
Isn't it like Icarus or something?
why do things have to be subtle
not all design needs to be some slick consoomer product for you to over-analyze ten thousand times for inane details
sometimes a thing is just a thing
nihil sub sole novum
Obviously it wasn't trying to be subtle, they just wanted a cool image.
The art direction of the Jensen games has odd moments but it's fine overall and the amount of shear anal hemorrhaging over it for the last 11 years is simply disproportionate to even the most outlandish art choices.
I don't think they were trying to be subtle
MD has some pretty cool art pieces in game too.
What was Michelangelo thinking? Where's the subtlety?
>i am seraph...
wow... only true bible fans will know
>ICARUS!
>don't LEEEEAAAAVE me!
>not catching the constant Icarus allusions and symbolism through both nu-Deus Ex games
Yeah bro, “angel wings”. The nation-state of the education system these days, frick me sidways.
use your european education system (which teachers you air conditioners don't exist) to decipher this brain buster:
William Blake Auguries of Innocence allusion. Next.
this sentence is bugging me, i'm going to rewrite it
Use your European education (in which you're taught that air conditioners don't exist) to decipher this brain buster.
Who taught you English? How does a single person use an entire education system? Who is teachering things?
>evading this hard
deus ex is simply too smart for the average mgs fan.
you should teacher me big thinks so i can brain better
>still evading
this is why smart gamers play deus ex.
duhhhhhh
>use your european education system (which teachers you air conditioners don't exist)
What are you talking about?
The context of the wings doesn't matter, the execution of the symbolism is hammy, like something a 14 year old would come up with.
It kinda is, not that shot but for years I missed they do it again at the very end of the trailer, with the sunlight behind Adam amidst the Panchaea wreckage. Given his status as 'Patient X' and what his DNA accomplished for manking as a whole via augmentations, him being a walking representation of Icarus not only fits but it ties nicely with Denton being the other side of the coin so to speak as Jesus Christ.
BRAVO JEAN-FRANCOIS DUGAS
based posters itt
You should watch the art director's interviews if you haven't. He really doesn't know what he's doing as far as themes go. He's clearly putting visual metaphors everywhere because he's learned visual metaphors are deep and not because he wants to communicate something. There are visual metaphors linking Adam to Icarus everywhere, except there's nothing in the story suggesting Adam is suffering from hubris that will lead to his downfall. On the contrary, he's constantly telling us how he "didn't ask for this" and how he wants to be careful with his powers.
Icarus didn't ask for wings to fly to the sun, he got them though, and that's what the metaphor is for.
He clearly wanted them to escape the labyrinth with his father.
How is Adam "flying too close to to the sun"?
Enlighten me, JF
>How is Adam "flying too close to to the sun"?
He's trying to expose the global elite and their conspiracies. Moron dumbass motherfricker are you actually severely fricking handicapped you troony frick? Did you take moron pills instead of your estrogen bullshit you fricking barely human amalgamation of mental illnesses? Frick you.
>How is Adam "flying too close to to the sun"?
He's getting tangled up in conspiracies
>metaphor is the least subtle shit ever
>anon still misinterprets it
like pottery
Deus Ex fans: masters of interpretation
Yes adam will fall since his games are prequels and his story didn't come to an end, yet.
>Symbolism is upsetting now.
Is there anything you gays won't cry about?
>JC "jesus christ" denton
>giant hand statue in the MJ12 hq
>the box art
this series has never been subtle
BUT MGS!!!!
>IT'S GOOD CAUSE IT'S OLD OKAY?!
>It's bad because common literary techniques present in every single book and in most media make me feel stupid.
Actually it's bad because overuse of heavy-handed symbolism contributes to its badness.
At least Adam looks cool.
>when I like the symbolism it's genius but when I don't it's heavy-handed
Being an npc must be exhausting.
Tell me about it.
No one ever claimed Deus Ex was subtle. The game is praised for bringing sharper focus to real life concerns with a more specific image than most media in general.
i agree with you on that, but my point was that while HR has its issues, its lack of subtlety shouldnt be a sticking point when the original game had just as much if not more on the nose shit.
Oh yeah I'm not really one to get annoyed at visual symbolism, even if it's obvious by my standard. Even discarding any thematic meaning, the OP image is still visually interesting from the high contrast of the background lights against Adam's darkened appearance. As long as a composed image is still meaningful or it looks cool then I don't see a big deal.
I always wondered why JC looks like Duke Nukem in the boxart
ah, classic Square Enix
Tell me about transhumanism
I don't get it.
>game uses Icarus analogy
>it's weaved into everything from corporate logos and your boss' name to the literal level design and narrative structure of the game (in his reckless search for truth Jensen gradually ascends from the dark streets of Detroit to a sun-scorched penthouse in China to motherfricking low earth orbit before crashing into the ocean and soon dying)
holy fricking K I N O
mein Black person
Hiw does Adam being cloned fit into this symbology?
false prophet/savior maybe?
>low earth orbit before crashing into the ocean
well damn, good post
>Eidos was saved from Square too late for The Jensen sequel to fit properly with the other two, if it ever gets made.
Too many of the team have moved on
>MD had the chance to be better than HR but was cut in half and can never be made whole again
>trilogy will always be maligned
I was never largely turned off by the "techno Renaissance" aesthetic in the Jensen games, but I still prefer the grounded look of Deus Ex 1 relative to 2000. A fresh start means new people get to come in with their own ideas and I'm interested to see what they come up with.
It's a bit sad, but Deus Ex is a series that I think would benefit hugely from some kind of a reboot every couple games or so. In a franchise about global conspiracies and shit you can only do so many sequels before the story gets completely lost up it's ass trying to have everything both make sense and deliver new mysteries each game.
if they remade the original, I wonder if the biolab in China down the street from the animal market will still be the source of the virus
so this is a thread where you uneducated cultureless gamer swine pretend to be experts on smybolism. LMAO
>you will never experience Ganker during the HR "leak" threads again
>ADAAAAAAAAAM MY HIPS ARE MOVING IN THEIR OOOOOOOOOWN
what a shame it was the best part of the game, and it was only decent at best
>the HR "leak" threads
peak Ganker sperging
Subtlety is for fricking losers.
i came to this thread expecting people to post examples of other games failing at being subtle or symbolism, but is just people chimping out about MGS and Kojumbo.
once again you let me down Ganker
Indeed, more games should have meaningless vague zanzibart forgive me bullshit like from games have.
I've read this post so many times. Subtle as to what? nothing fricking happens in the game, even then last game it was just about the idea of him getting burned. Does he ever get burned by truth or his own augments in a way that isnt overly artsy? it just seems like a hapless metaphor to allude to some idea of being woke.
its subtle about the zombies you fight in the last level
>vega... we're the deus ex: mankind divided
what a kino moment, and it has yet to be topped by any other game to date
>Adam...You're the deus ex of this machine.
>Also I'm fricking your girlfriend now
I don't care how on the nose it is every time I see background wings and/or halo I onions
Real life is very subtle
Apparently it's about the omnipresent threat of Nuclear annihilation
I heard today, we're finally gonna get new Deus Ex
is that true?
>oh huh, a Deus Ex thread
>it's full of crying about MGS instead
What the frick are you Black folk doing?
The black/gold color scheme that literally every building seems to use in Human Revolution onwards is a subtle reference to ancarcho capitalism
no, it's a subtle reference to the riches of wakanda
really unfunny
