The scenes are good when they are just doing melee combat but it's totally immersion breaking when they show 50 guys with guns and all they can do is occasionally shoot at the ground near your feet.

The final dance scene was because the game was supposed to just end without the epilogue. He wanted a super happy ending probably because he didn't think he was going to get a sequel so the final dance scene got added. That coupled with the amount of times the average player had to redo Iris's somnium, especially when it would crash often, made the dance stuff a prominent part of the series which they embraced in the second game.
Well... the first one was heavily based on Iris and therefore in idol culture, so there's that.
You can also tell that with AI1 they were experimenting with doing a fully 3d game, with the dancing and the action sequences.
Also, since a choreography is reusable as opposed to random actions which would be jarring if repeated too much.

beat the game last night, was very underwhelmed by the twist.
i'm not really sure what's the point in all this frayer stuff. i was pretty excited initially in the diverge ending since that's what the big frayer stuff lead to, then it ended up being very short and unsatisfying on purpose, kinda like a joke ending.
it left me feeling really awkward since i wanted to play as ryuki again for a while after he got sidelined.
i liked the first game a lot more. ryuki and the mizukis are just not as good as date. i'll probably buy the third game if it happens though.

I only just finished the game recently so I'm still processing a lot of stuff, I might start a replay soon so I can absorb everything in context.

I think my problem is just that all the actual perserverance happens offscreen. Lien and Kizuna's plot in the present is just Kizuna feeling like Lien is only there with her out of guilt (and then her dad forcing her to break things off), so there's no time really dedicated to demonstrating any real development in their romance or how/why they care for each other.
yeah, we just saw how they met (which was weird) and then how they got hitched, so we missed about 95% of their relationship. Just comes off as incomplete, really

I thought the culprit's name question in Ryuki's Somnium was going to be part of a quiz like the one in the prologue, and the correct answer for branching into the other route would start with answering "Mizuki Date".
I thought Gen was going to be part of it because of the tape he gave Amame. The first two times Ryuki has an episode when watching the videos they both play that weird spooky note at the end so I thought the video was irrelevant and it was actually the sound driving people crazy and Gen was the one that engineered it.
I had that thought for a second and believed it was possible since Uchikoshi is that much of a hack. I was relieved the twist wasn't anywhere near that bad.

You could argue Saito was motivated by a twisted sort of love. He loved his body with his brain that let him feel great when he murdered people.
That reminds me, the only person Date ever manages to kill while in that body is So(Saito) only to go into a coma afterward. I wonder if he would have gotten addicted to that rush too if he killed, say, So at the Kumakura office like he almost does. Aiba doses him with Dopamine to keep things level but Saito describes it like the greatest feeling in the world so it might still be a lot.
Everyone is suspicious of Boss just cause she sent a SAT team after a human tank in the throwaway ending, but she just wants to ogle Date, go to host clubs, and listen to boy bands...

I do like how well DC Douglas and Greg Chun both sold Date. It was surprisingly good at making it sound like the same guy with a different voice.

Date-as-Boss didn't get much lines so I didn't quite get that, but Saito-as-Boss was solid, yeah. Shame we never really saw as much of Saito-as-others because he was too busy blending in. Even when he's in So's body in Mizuki's route he just kinda acts like So. Saito-as-Falco was solid, though.
Speaking of VAs switching characters, you could tell Iris's VA was having a lot of fun being Moma with the voice changer

Saito Date is just a better design and better voice, Uchi wrote himself into a corner by making the true ending replace a lot about the character people ended up loving. Maybe he didn't expect people to get so attached to that design or maybe he didn't expect a sequel, but it's still preferable to have the stupid explanation over Falco.
I don't believe a sequel was thought of with the first game, at least. It was standalone to begin with.

Gen did know Tokiko, this is established by him being a Chikara product, him being in her Somnium, and him getting the Liberty island question from her.

I felt like there was a bit of lacking on the personalisation of the lyrics, honestly. Shoma and Gen's are just the most baseline character traits about them, Ryuki just... Says he's taking a break and the Mizukis lament their datelessness.
Yeah Half to Whole is a better song but Invincible Rainbow Arrow was a better finale for all the characters. Especially with Date joining and and Aiba's "I'm home". Meanwhile Half to Whole focuses on Kizzy/Lien which doesn't have the weight to carry a finale.
Well there wasn't really an emotional stake to the finale as a whole, because it was just clean-up. If it involved Amame in some way, maybe it'd be nicer, but nah, nothing. Even Ryuki coming back like Aiba did wasn't given as much weight, nobody even seemed to really care that he 'died'.
I still think that the climax should have been more low key. Not "everyone fights a horde of faceless goons".
I might have taken Ryuki getting shot up if it weren't followed shortly after with Kizuna pulling out a minigun and screaming her head off after being calm and prim and proper the entire story.
Yeah, that's sort of the issue with a murder mystery plot where the murderer's already dead. You're just dealing with the aftermath. Tearer in general was a less interesting villain than Saito because Saito actually got personal and involved, whereas Tearer was just "BUT HAVE YOU CONSIDERED MY PLAN THOUGH". I honestly wish we saw more of the crazed cultist that was locked-up instead of the calm, collected planner guy. We saw a bit when Amame merc'd him but still.

The nurse was always a bit of a fourth wall poker. In the first game she was the same, commenting how she's an actor that plays nurses and got a bit part early on but got to show up at the end.

It's still funny to me how the potential family of Date, Hitomi, Iris and Mizuki is a four-person family with absolutely no blood relatives.
No matter how much they try to force it I just cannot see Date getting back with Hitomi and being Uncle to Iris again. Date/Aiba/Mizuki found family is the best.
I would have been less annoyed if they added some extra spoiler dialogue from Hitomi mentioning that she didn't mind.

Falco Date is the inferior one though. It was a mistake to replace the better version, that and Iris stealing the daughter role are why Mizuki route was better than True route in AI1 character wise.
I liked Falco Date. I do wish Mizuki had more to do on the true role.
Also originally, Hitomi was going to be the focus character for the main route, but for whatever reason they changed their mind and made Iris the focus instead.

Iris has made it pretty clear more than once she's not interested in him like that at all.
Eventually Iris will begin to age out of the net idol scene. Her videos will get fewer and fewer views and her fanbase will plummet. Mizuki will keep her signed to Lemisgate because she's a softie, but Iris will start to feel bad about leeching from the company. Only then will the man with the boyish charms and the stable restaurant income become an attractive prospect for her.
