Dragon Quest is literally older and more influential than Final Fantasy. The Japanese used to essentially have national holidays on DQ game releases.

Final Fantasy got made because Dragon Quest I and II broke sales records and made RPGs popular in Japan. And Sakaguchi openly said he used Dragon Quest as a template for Final Fantasy. Which can be seen by not only how many FF games tried to imitate them, but Sakaguchi's obsession with Toriyama.

Because DQ2 has a completely different worldmap and 1+2 share minimal gameplay and progression similarities with 3.
DQ2 is aids. Its a guidecore game and the final overworld/dungeon is horseshit designed to waste your fricking time.

DQ1 is cool, it's quick to beat and it's a "Oh neat JRPGs started here" kinda thing. It's actually got some cool detective-tier quests too, like the flute and the golem.

Dragon Quest 1 is objectively a good game. For a third generation game, and hell, even for a fourth/fifth generation game, it has near perfect pacing and exploration. Really its only issue is the leveling and how much you do have to grind, which is fixed in literally every remakes.
DQ1 is pretty plonky. It's not terrible, but it's not Chrono Trigger or FFVI.

Really, all you could add to 1 is maybe one additional dungeon with one superboss. Anything else would make the final dungeon a cakewalk (having your Hero levelled at 20+ does this already in most versions of the game).
As for DQ2, you could expand it a bit, but it would still only be minor expansions.

I have been playing the port they did on the switch recently, I just got the boat, entered this one castle surrounded by poison and some demon inside told me to go find five seals in different places , game is comfy
If they give this game the FF3 Pixel Remaster deal on it, then DQ2 could be a contender for top 5 DQ games.

Actually I am excited for it, DQII is very underrated. The problem is that DQIII is coming first and that's just one of the best games ever made so it's stiff competition.
I am because this remake trend will make every single game available on Steam. 4 is the one that needs a proper remake since only the fricking phone version has the party chatter.

Frick you zoomer, I am excited for II. Literally the only Hero to have no MP all cause they couldn't code RUN and SPELL as it couldn't be done on NES. I will forever LARP he is the physically strongest Hero of all time. Now if you're talking about after you get a boat... Yeah, no one gonna look forward to that atrocity.
I'm actually interested if Horii will change the game. He's openly admitted the original one was rushed and unbalanced. But for some reason he didn't change it with the SFC remake. They rebalanced the EXP rates and some enemy skills/damage. But they didn't change the events and pacing of the game, which was the bigger problem with DQII. This remake could do that.
And unlike other series which don't fix this kind of stuff in remakes (Final Fantasy), Dragon Quest remakes have in the past. Like Dragon Quest IV and VII getting major changes to the story and events. And Dragon Quest V, VIII and XI getting major additions. They just didn't do this for the earlier remakes of II and VI for some reason.
