aren't these just knockoff Final Fantasy

Dragon Quest is literally older and more influential than Final Fantasy. The Japanese used to essentially have national holidays on DQ game releases.

Final Fantasy got made because Dragon Quest I and II broke sales records and made RPGs popular in Japan. And Sakaguchi openly said he used Dragon Quest as a template for Final Fantasy. Which can be seen by not only how many FF games tried to imitate them, but Sakaguchi's obsession with Toriyama.

Because DQ2 has a completely different worldmap and 1+2 share minimal gameplay and progression similarities with 3.

DQ2 is aids. Its a guidecore game and the final overworld/dungeon is horseshit designed to waste your fricking time.

DQ 1 and 2 are so fricking bad archaic trash. This series started with DQ3.

DQ1 is cool, it's quick to beat and it's a "Oh neat JRPGs started here" kinda thing. It's actually got some cool detective-tier quests too, like the flute and the golem.

Anyone who says this doesn't know what makes for good game design.
Dragon Quest 1 is objectively a good game. For a third generation game, and hell, even for a fourth/fifth generation game, it has near perfect pacing and exploration. Really its only issue is the leveling and how much you do have to grind, which is fixed in literally every remakes.

DQ1 is pretty plonky. It's not terrible, but it's not Chrono Trigger or FFVI.

you just answered your question now with these remakes they can expand and evolve those games.

        >with these remakes they can expand and evolve those games.
Not really much to "expand" or "evolve".
Seriously, what could you add to 1?
        >Expanded party
Doesn't work with the game design.
        >More dungeons/areas
Doesn't work unless you change the maps for 2 and 3, in addition to adjusting the difficulty scaling across the game.
        >More story
It's a fairly one note "Defeat the dragonlord, maybe save the princess" narrative.
Really, all you could add to 1 is maybe one additional dungeon with one superboss. Anything else would make the final dungeon a cakewalk (having your Hero levelled at 20+ does this already in most versions of the game).

As for DQ2, you could expand it a bit, but it would still only be minor expansions.
        >Tone down the mazelike elements
Removed like 30% of the game part.
        >Add more dungeons/areas
Feasible, and unlike DQ1, DQ2 is entirely open so it wouldn't mess up the difficulty scaling.
        >Expand the party
Again, feasible. Ryu is literally right there and could work as a hidden party member, but you still have the issue of only one meleeGOD on your team and a bunch of magicgays around him.
        >Expand the story
It really isn't that different from 1, it just doesn't have much narrative.

People also say "DQ2 but good", but they have remake DQ2 three times now. I think Horii is fine with it as it is.

          >Seriously, what could you add to 1?

Like an open world like breath of the wild and action combat like elden ring and base building like minecraft and sex scenes.

That's the fricking point moron. Why have a remake if you aren't going to fix shit? There's two objectives when REMAKING; Accesibility and fixing the weird shit. If you only want accesibility you don't waste anyone's time and either do a basic Zelda like remaster or just a port

It is. It's fun to see people getting mad about it though. Though, apparently the original Japanese version was moreso unbalanced.
The puzzles are all pretty okay though. That's more than people do not read what npcs say.

I will forever LARP he is the physically strongest Hero of all time. Now if you're talking about after you get a boat... Yeah, no one gonna look forward to that atrocity.

I'm actually interested if Horii will change the game. He's openly admitted the original one was rushed and unbalanced. But for some reason he didn't change it with the SFC remake. They rebalanced the EXP rates and some enemy skills/damage. But they didn't change the events and pacing of the game, which was the bigger problem with DQII. This remake could do that.

And unlike other series which don't fix this kind of stuff in remakes (Final Fantasy), Dragon Quest remakes have in the past. Like Dragon Quest IV and VII getting major changes to the story and events. And Dragon Quest V, VIII and XI getting major additions. They just didn't do this for the earlier remakes of II and VI for some reason.

Absolutely awful take. It's already going to be lackluster with this quazi 2D/3D thing. Because the first three DQ games are grid based.
