I believe there's a fan patch or launcher for it, don't remember if you need Alien Crossfire for it.
the UI is awful, but so is the AI so don't worry too much about it

Here, grab a (You), you've got my pity over being so starved for human interaction, you'd make a SMAC bait thread
>looks like excel sheet with windows 98 interface
Which Excel version are you using?
How do I turn on voxel graphics in excel?

People keep praising this game but I could never get into it, the UI is just terrible. It seems that if you played Civ2 back in the day you'll feel quite at home but I never played it so I find it hard to adapt.
subhuman post
Same
I wouldn't call it terrible but I can believe that it seems unintuitive. It's mainly about memorizing hotkeys. Once you know where everything is, you can get a pretty crazy amount of detailed information on everything that's going on, all of it only a couple keys away. The real question is, why haven't you played Civ 2 yet?
Here is a (You) you are after
It's only unintuitive to people that started with Civ 4 or later, as those kept changing key binds non-stop. But 1-3 and SMAC use the same binds, so go figure.
does windows offer an alpha centauri ui theme?
perhaps it would be easier to rice out on a linux distro.
now that i think about it blizzard and paradox are sleeping on desktop themes.
a warcraft 3 starcraft 2 themed window or linux ui would be pimpin'
a command and conquer e.v.a ui theme would be so fricking cool too.
>a command and conquer e.v.a ui theme would be so fricking cool too.
I think Westwood actually made some computer themes for their games but it's for XP and back as far as I know.

Haven't downloaded yet, maybe someone can modify them for newer systems if they want to and have the know how; could just extract the sounds from the various EVA units and CABAL to make custom notifications etc.
i read somewhere theres relative small .exe change which makes it look much better on modern systems with fluid graphics but cant find it anymore
nvm i found it apparently it was PRACX

fair enough, we know the youth like streamlined games that are easily accessible, and can be played in 5 minutes
No I'm not a fan of Civ5
