So you guys assume it was designed to resemble his hair+moles rather than his hair+moles being modeled after it? Why? There are plenty of examples of people in the Pokemon world having traits modeled after Pokemon (especially hair) for the sake of visual shorthand indicating a link between the two

Because it's implied in the video that the new pokémon got the old man's personality, as it was born from the man's regret? (A common theme in ghost type object mons)

It’s clearly just a legend to tell kids where Poltchageist comes from, if it was a completely true story there could only be one in existence.
As such, the guy’s face was designed after Poltchageist’s cup, not the other way around.

Types don’t mean anything if the Pokémon has a unique niche. The Poltchageist line should have the same species strengths as the Sinistea line, so they should still be special attackers. Every other Pokémon so far was physical.
Look at how many pure Grass and pure Ghost Pokémon we always get and nobody complains about that. But suddenly make a recurring type combination and now people are upset.
My only issue here is that this is the fifth time a soul fuses with plant material and becomes a Pokémon.

We only had 3 Pokémon with this type combination for almost 18 years.
Now over the past 3 years, we have 4 more, which is fine in this case as each represents different aspects of the type.
Zarude - Aggressive mammal who manipulates plants
Meowscarada - Con artist magician with a false flower
Brute Bonnet - Aggressive plant (falling in line with the original 3)
Wo-Chien - Negative emotions possessing a wooden tablet and forming a foliage body to protect itself and move around

The way they word Hosptiality makes it sound like other mons will be getting it. I think this, alongside it being likened to Sinistea and NOT Polteageist (despite the name) pretty solidly points to it evolving.

no no, I meant other Pokemon will HAVE the ability. They say "Poltchageist’s Ability, Hospitality, is being introduced in the DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet." They make no mention of it being exclusive, which they're quick to do on the website blurbs if that's the case.

Considering the comparison to another pre-evo I’d say this bolsters it having an evolution. A tea bowl evo, maybe with the whisk is likely I say.

That really doesn't mean anything one way or another. The Matcha could be it's true form, or simply a medium for channeling it's powers, and it wouldn't alter that tidbit at all. From a Japanese Mythological standpoint the jar itself being the monster fits better, A Tsukumogami is traditionally a tool brought to life rather than an inanimate object in the more general sense.

              Sinistea dex entries
              >Shield (Phony): The teacup in which this Pokémon makes its home is a famous piece of antique tableware. Many forgeries are in circulation.
              >Sword (Antique): The swirl pattern in this Pokémon's body is its weakness. If it gets stirred, the swirl loses its shape, and Sinistea gets dizzy.
              >Shield (Antique): It absorbs the life-force of those who drink it. It waits patiently, but opportunities are fleeting—it tastes so bad that it gets spat out immediately.
              >Violet (Phony): Sinistea gets into your body when you drink it, and then it steals your vitality from within. It also tastes awful.
              >Violet (Antique): This Sinistea lives in an antique teacup. As valuable as this Pokémon is, its awful taste remains unchanged.
              And Polteageist for good measure:
              >Scarlet (Phony): This species lives in antique teapots. Most pots are forgeries, but on rare occasions, an authentic work is found.
              >Violet (Phony): These Pokémon multiply by creeping into teapots and pouring themselves into leftover tea.
              >Scarlet (Antique): Apparently a Polteageist’s disposition is affected by the type of tea the Pokémon came from. What teapot it inhabits makes no difference.
The Pokémon possesses leftover or abandoned tea and multiples by pouring its body into other tea. The teapot/cup irrelevant; it’s just a carrier it holds itself in to move.
The cup or pot is like Dhelmise’s anchor.
If Poltchageist is anything like this, the matcha is its true form and its jar is just a host body.

                >If Poltchageist is anything like this
It's not. That's why it's a convergent pokemon and not a regional form.
Did you watch the video? Poltchageist is the tea caddy, not the tea.

                Anonymous

The man’s spirit combined with his grudge of being neglected over time possessed the matcha powder, which erupted from the jar, transforming the jar into an imitation of that man’s face.
“The tea master’s regret still dwells in this caddy.”
It dwells inside the caddy because the Pokémon is the matcha inside it.

                Anonymous

The story was very specifically based on a Tsukumogami, which is (traditionally) a Tool brought to life by force of age and/or a grudge, Matcha poweder is not really a tool. Also, the teamaster regretted his butthole nature in the end, but polchageist still carries the grudge because he's not the teamaster but a Yokai getting mad on his behalf.

Was I meant to get excited for this? This is, what, the sixth Grass/Ghost line? And not a single one of them is good? Frick me running.

Looking forward to Gen 10 in Italy and the wine version

tbh I'd be fine with that, one of these each gen. I just hope it doesn't take up dex slots, so I'd rather have regional forms than convergent ones, but it's fine.

Didn't some fricking youtuber do a video of Polteageist but for every type? And din't he actually have Matca/Green Tea down for the grass type?

Yeah. I just looked and re-found the video, though his was proper green tea leaves and not Matcha Powder.
Wine was the Poison type, incidentally

how have we never gotten a bug dragon

A dragonfly makes too much sense. Wr have to preserve dex space for 3 stage Pikaclone lines.

The reason there hasn’t been a bug dragon dragonfly is because Pokémon design is still predominantly completed in Japan, and they aren’t called dragonflies in Japanese, and hold no connection to dragons.

This isn't fricking it, right? There's got to be more Pokemon, right? So far all the new Pokemon overlap in some way so you can't really even use them on a team. Not including the legendaries.

I don't know where else to post this speculation so I'll post it here. What if the reason Paradox Entei and Terrakion haven't been revealed is because they'll be in the Teal Mask part instead of Indigo Disk?

Huh, I actually thought the ones they announced were for Teal Mask. I didn't check, so I assumed we were getting one pair in the base game, one pair in Teal Mask, and one pair in Indigo Disk.
I don't think they would announce the Indigo Disk ones first, so my guess is the other two are for Indigo Disk as well and are just going to be dripfed to us later.

      It's Indigo Disk.
