been thinking about grabbing it. heard that the open world itself sucks for exploration though and that combat with more than two people is janky as hell. any mods that would address either of those two problems?
I couldn't get past the two characters talking about fried meat. To this day I have never heard anyone say this phrase in real life. It's like something from a Mark Zuckerberg meme
WTF THERE'S A DOG COMPANION
ok but it's DLC
how early in the game can I obtain a dog?
is he a permanent companion as long as he isn't killed?
I want to go on medieval adventure with dog
he is a permanent companion and can't be killed. if the heat is too much then he fricks off for the rest of the day and comes back later with a lower 'obedience score'.
its so fricking boring. the combat definitely sucks in more than 2v1, not worth buying, let alone pirating. the story is shit, voice acting is shit. the castle interiors were cool to look at it, but look at photos of them on google images. rest of the game is just a forest and copy pasted villages.
it's worth it if the exploration element is really intriguing and memorable
a real honest sense of wonder and curiosity at strange unknowable ancient monoliths and stuff is something that generally only an open world can offer because it was the player's choice of travel that got them to this thing
otherwise you are completely correct and the games shouldn't be completely open
It's more enjoyable to have multiple viable options than a single obviously superior solution that you need to consciously avoid. Having to constantly think of self imposed rules takes away from the experience.
also as the other anon said in addition to cool locations, i think having survival and i mean REAL hardcore survival should play a key role. whether thats the elements fighting you or dangerous world populated by enemies, traveling should be fun and challenging, not empty and boring as frick.
Open world people have brian problems man. They don't even want things to do. Botw daggerfall. Might as well just stop playing games and go play legos.
It's an MMO, but try Ryzom. It doesn't play like an MMO because there are no formal dungeon instances (so far as I can remember) and apart from the optional tutorial island there aren't a bunch of quest tracks to follow. You pretty much just kill or forage as you like for the materials you want, and then have a lot of freedom in how to use them for making gear or spells. It's the only game I know of where you can accidentally have a nice day while foraging and I think while crafting. (At one time you could die in EQ2 from being a shitty cook, but that's gone.) It's a game for people who like to hunt monsters and/or do crafting at their own pace, and the monster behavior is especially interesting because they migrate and there are some dangerous ones that roam freely around the world in packs.
Note that this is a true MMO with everyone in the same giant map together, not a 100 player survival game broken up into many shards or instances. But that is the only thing that makes it an MMO. Frankly I can't even remember why I played it or what my goal was, except that for a long time I did follow a series of undocumented quests so that I could be flagged for PvP. This is not an easy task and there is no pressure to do it. In fact for a long time I thought PvP was simply not allowed.
I will add that so far as I can remember, the game has no fast travel whatsoever, and your only bank is a pack animal that can be killed. It is extremely difficult for low level or weak players to move between the four large regions of the world. There is a pay gate for leveling beyond 100, but I never made it close to 100 so I never considered this.
Fraid not

The open world is more about history tourism than see-that-mountain exploration.
I think it's one of the dlc's that updates the game with a dog companion. The dog is invaluable in drawing aggro and harassment.
aight just bought it
gothic was cool elex was eehhh didnt even finish it. i know they released elex 2 though.
Jesus Christ be praised
>gothic was cool elex was eehhh
Try Risen, the first one is decent.

right after you get through the one million hour tutorial sequence + video introduction
he is a permanent companion and can't be killed. if the heat is too much then he fricks off for the rest of the day and comes back later with a lower 'obedience score'.
that's good to hear

Amazing how someone can be so thoroughly wrong
People who complain about combat are just getting filtered. Game is good
New Vegas.
already played it
Fricking every shitty game that gets released now is 'open world' for autists that has less interesting shit than fricking outcast
any game by Piranha Bytes is worth a shot. they are incredibly janky but fun
Having open world as a requirement means ur a low story seeking degenerate
Conan!
have that too. never played it but waiting for the sorcery update to release before i give it a proper playthrough.
Subnautica
Open world is fundamentally bad game design because it means the balance is shit.
it's worth it if the exploration element is really intriguing and memorable

Wrong.
>single-player game
>balance
irrelevant. you simply can't lose at a single player game or any pve experience whatsoever
It's more enjoyable to have multiple viable options than a single obviously superior solution that you need to consciously avoid. Having to constantly think of self imposed rules takes away from the experience.
>Having to constantly think of self imposed rules takes away
maybe if youre fricking autistic lmao who does that shit
In Morrowind there's 100 things you can do to make the game play itself. It's not fun after the first time. The game without all that is fun.
>It's not fun after the first time
yes it is youre just autistic

>any good open world RPGs?
>no bethesda
doesn't exist
Might and Magic 6
Witcher 3
Xenoblade X. 100% worth getting the Wii U emulator and booting it up.
Witcher 3
Elden Ring
Xenoblade X
Elder scrolls has been trash since morrowind, although oblivion is salavgeable with mods, skyrin is trash, wide as a ocean but deep as a puddle.
Open world people have brian problems man. They don't even want things to do. Botw daggerfall. Might as well just stop playing games and go play legos.
Brian's problems are now your problems
>install conan exiles
>can't find anything to do
>no little hearts to collect, no turtles to jump on, what the frick
>die of boredom
Good one dude
