yeah no shit, game's art is obviously subject to hardware quirks, and is made with them in mind
that's why you post portraits or intros, the (relatively) highest resolution images in most games
so long as you aren't claiming that cave story is designed for crts, or that harmony of dissonance was meant to have that eye-searing #ff0000 red
They're pretty cool, and they hold up really well if they're in good shape. They're self emissive and they have very good motion. They don't have a native resolution either. Just a minimum and maximum resolution. People really over hype every other aspect of them. A modern LCD will have much better brightness, clarity, and colors. Modern displays can also support higher resolutions at higher refresh rates. I love my crts and I wouldn't give them up for anything, but I still use other displays. >but cringe for anything 360 and above
There are CRTs that can do HD resolutions. The 360 does VGA and looks quite nice on a PC CRT monitor. Especially for games like Halo 3 that weren't quite HD.
Those aren't TVs, and they don't provide the same levels of luminosity and pixel blending that you would get from a TV, so at that point you might as well use a flat screen digital monitor.
Unless you get one of the high end monitor ones like the OP pic, cringe. The average CRT you get is going to be showing a faded, ugly picture because most CRTs, especially CRT TVs were fricking garbage. It's like using a top of the line monitor for displaying how great flat screen is but most monitors you can actually get are low quality junk.
CRTs were never good and I'm tired of zoomers shilling them all over this site because they think they'll get le retro cred. People who were actually around for CRTs know how shit they are, with pitiful screen resolution and that whiny EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE noise.
If you own a 8/16/32 bits console or a ps2(due to interlacing) then yes, is based to have a CRT.
But if you don't own any of those consoles and you emulate instead then don't bother with that shit. CRTs are a pain in the ass due to the maintenance they need.
LCD/LED/OLED is fine for emulation. Don't worry about the display you have and just enjoy the fricking games! Jesus, people waste so much time thinking about how games should be viewed. Is like they don't even play the games anymore.
I think the supposed benefits are overexaggerated and people are stupid for spending so much money on them, but if you can get one for cheap or have one laying around it's nice. Those old Sony studio monitors are cool looking aesthetically. I have an old 30 inch TV, but I rarely use it.
I find it fricking hilarious when retro autists go on and on about "authenticity" of "retro experience" and then they buy a pvm crt they would never ever own back then.
I would get one but everytime I see one on ebay or craigs list they are 500 or more.
No way am I paying more than 50 bucks for that. I'll just use CRT filters
i think i agree
theyre complete waste of money and you are paying for worse picture. just moronic.
Older games look best on a CRT. They look like straight ass on native hardware with a modern display and emulation hasn't caught up to it yet.
>CRTroon cope
every game looks amazing on my 4k oled monitor. morons with the e-waste monitors like to cope though.
ok
Zoomers think pixel art is supposed to look sharpened for some reason. I think it's because of modern indie games.
Left hurts my eyes

nta but this is like picking between a sharp granulated mess and blurry globs of shit. Both are shit btw
he's me 🙂

What is the right photo?
Left is LCD, middle is filter, right is on a crt.
What set is it? Looks like a tri dot, but really low TVL. Is it some kind of vintage set?
Enjoy the unintended look of retro games.
show me a picture of an N64 or ps1 game on your 4k oled monitor
>worse picture

CRTs are fine, the homosexuals circlejerking over them and buying PVMs are cringe
PVMs are just the high end monitors of the era.
PVMs were like OLEDs are today. Not the norm but enthusiasts always went for them.
Just admit you cant afford one
I own 2 and a Trinitroon consumer CRT
Based if NA or JP.
Cringe if EU. 50hz is cancer and you are better served playing on an emulator.
360 outputs 480i though
it's meant for CRT
Yeah it makes alot of games look better imo may frick up some games text boxes though
Is the average Ganker user now too young to remember Dead Rising? That game was literally unplayable on CRTs
Yup

>it's another CRTroon thread where morons take zoomed in pictures of sprites and complain about how you can see the pixels
zoomer romanticizing of the past they didn't experience as adults, many such cases!
Best NDS setup I've seen was Soulsilver on an NTR capture with two of these big ones stacked.
>CRTs are good for games designed for CRTs and bad for games not designed for CRTs

Based enough that you should probably at least be emulating a CRT for playing retro games.
EmuVR exists and can be used on flat displays as well.

Use craigslist or fb marketplace. Theres prob thousands of unused crts in your county and like 20 autists who would actually want one.
These are the kino CRT
I remember emulated games looked so sharp on PC monitors back in the day. Not scanlines at all.
