New pokemon games have a vast majority of their cast be shit designs, whereas old games only had a handful of shitters at worst.
Its not just the concept of the designs that has gotten worse, its the execution of them as well.
You could take a lot of the "shitty concepts" from newer gens and draw them in a gen 1 style and suddenly they don't look bad anymore. Its not just the concepts but the way they execute those concepts, even to the point where old designs get worse and worse as they get adapted to the new style.

Graveler looked better with the different colored Fingers and the Arms llooking a bit more menacing, more powerful.
Golem should had keept the rocky arms and the three claws, but honestly Golem is a bit lame compared to Graveler, I didn't need something fleshy under the rock

I didn't even notice the digits changed with Golem, with his hands losing thumbs but his feet gaining one.
I think Golem was pretty misinterpreted from his original sprite. Graveler gains an extra pair of arms because those arms would become Golem's feet. It's more apparent in the original sprite where they look like another pair of arms. If they were going to draw how his feet ended up in the official anime/card designs they would have made them larger.

Yeah I feel there has historically been a mass miscommunication of pokemon designs between GF, their artists and the artists of the anime.
Things get lost or pop up all the time. Hitmon lee had spring legs at some point, Poliwhirl/Wrath had mouths but the anime never understood the design and so they shoot water out of their spiral when using water jet attacks.
I'm surprised that they even occasionally remember the "not so apparent" gimmicks of certain mon, like how Burmy or Krustle look without their "clothing", or that Dusknoir's stomach mouth opens up.

Yeah, about that. All of that artwork was made AFTER their original designs Japanese designs to be used in the West.
In other words, the old art in those images is inaccurate while the new ones are based more on the originals.
It took something like 20 years for people to discover that the original sugimori art was improperly scanned before it was sent out everywhere. It's far more desaturated.

The newer generation Pokemon definitely are going for a simpler art style, probably to be easier to make merch of and for kids to draw. Armarouge and Ceruledge are such odd exceptions though, they don't look like newer gen mons... hell, they don't even look like any gen mon.
They could have given the shiny battle damage like chips and cracks since they're all possessing the same suit of armor but instead went with the laziest option they could.
The best way to do a shiny would be to simply invert the palette, turn blues to reds and such, it would make the shiny instantly recognizable and completely distinct from the original by being the exact opposite palette.

Basic Pokemon like Pidgey and ratata make sense without having to think about them, but others like grimer needed an idea behind them. But now the Pokemon have no reason to them. Why does fuecoco evolve to have a sombrero made from ugly red polyps? Just because, idk. There's no need to explain how this Pokemon would rationally exist in the wild or what niche it's evolutionary line fills/fights for.

Three things happened.
Genwunners shat on gen 5 which was meant to be their magnum opus and an adventure designed to be wholly new for everyone.
They realised that Genwunners will always buy pokemon products if they can just use their favorites which is why legends and gen 1 starters never get get for long.
And finally, they realised they were putting in so much more effort than other monster tamers which just had a select set of monsters each game and a ton of recolors so they started doing that although I wouldn't say they committed fully to that since regional variants aren't exactly Kuzuhamon style recolors but Toedscool is painting a bad future.

The best way to do a shiny would be to simply invert the palette, turn blues to reds and such, it would make the shiny instantly recognizable and completely distinct from the original by being the exact opposite palette.

I feel like Pokemon designs used to not just recreate animals, but ask why does the Pokemon exist? Basic Pokemon like Pidgey and ratata make sense without having to think about them, but others like grimer needed an idea behind them. "Why not make a pokemon that is a direct result of human pollution?" Great.
But now the Pokemon have no reason to them. Why does fuecoco evolve to have a sombrero made from ugly red polyps? Just because, idk. There's no need to explain how this Pokemon would rationally exist in the wild or what niche it's evolutionary line fills/fights for.
I understand there have been pokemon like Blastoise who don't really have a good explanation for their designs, but in the last few gens it stopped being a few outliers to the majority of designs.
What survivability does Cetitan gain from having a curved mouth with big spikes in the way of whatever I wants to eat? Truly, does a Pokemon evolving to have a giant axe blade on it's back make sense in the wild? Does it make sense that an animate combustion engine isn't ghost type? What benefit does a human centipede have against a Spearow trying to eat it?

I think the point anon is making, is while its fine to have some weird or quirky things about a pokemon, more and more of them seem like they just kinda don't belong anywhere.
Like inceniroar looks like it wouldn't exist in the wild period. I'd compare it to say, something like infernape, who still looks really busy, still looks wild or natural enough to exist in the wild.

Three things happened.
Genwunners shat on gen 5 which was meant to be their magnum opus and an adventure designed to be wholly new for everyone.
They realised that Genwunners will always buy pokemon products if they can just use their favorites which is why legends and gen 1 starters never get get for long.
And finally, they realised they were putting in so much more effort than other monster tamers which just had a select set of monsters each game and a ton of recolors so they started doing that although I wouldn't say they committed fully to that since regional variants aren't exactly Kuzuhamon style recolors but Toedscool is painting a bad future.
