It’s great, honestly. Just utterly charming. My only complaints are that the Dampe thing sucks and because it’s got seashells/hearts tied to it, you can’t 100% unless you’re willing to put up with that giant slog. At least it’s still easy to get enough seashells for the Sword even without it.

It's better because there's way less bugs, the combat is more balanced, the Pokémon are actually on-model, there's post-game content, you can rebattle trainers etc etc. I have no particularly strong opinions on the changed art style or the music, although I did prefer the old character designs to the new ones. I also did like the setting more in the original games, but everything else is honestly better imo ngl

It genuinely is though. It's absolutely not perfect, but it's a lot better than RBY. Those games were terribly balanced.

I never really understood the hate the links awakening remake got. Especially for it's art style. It clearly had a lot of time and effort put into making it look like a cute little diorama and it captures the unique cutsey look of the old sprites well. Is it really that different from say, wind waker? If people wanna see true low effort "chibi shit" the diamond and pearl remakes make much better examples. All that said frick the depth of field effect.

It looks beautiful when you emulate it and fix the small graphical hiccups too. All it neds to be perfect is for someone to drop in some of the original sound effects since the new ones don't really hit as hard. Wonderful remake

        True. Games such as:
        Deus Ex: Infinity War
        Devil May Cry 2
        Blood 2: The Chosen
        Daikatana
        Two Worlds etc.
could use remakes, since they had interesting ideas or were sequels to critically acclaimed titles, but their development was troublesome and it showed in the final product.

You made me realize that's probably the fear of whoever did the HD remake of Heroes of Might & Magic 3.
Literally all they did was add some resolution fixes and polished the spritework somewhat. Didn't even dare touch anything else.
I would be extatic if a homm2 remake could show up with a few nudges of balance here and there

            Anonymous

I sort of lived through it and I am biased to HoMM2 as it introduced me to the gameplay style.
In hindsight, I'd say a beginner should avoid 'Armageddons Blade' with a tenfoot pole. Conflux is hot garbage and shouldn't even be a thing. Take a look at all the other parts of homm3 and I'd say you'll have a good time.

HoMM3 is one of those games everyone says they love but never really played much of.
Anyone that has ever been at a LAN and having people wanting to play this knows it all too well.
            >Everyone is excited and starts up a game
            >30min in and everyone is already bored and novelty has died off
            >everyone just fricks off waiting for their turn and the game turns into a chore.

During my university days we didn't really have a deck of cards, so HoMM3 was always on the agenda. I still have about 30 saves of different games that were never finished, since we only played during lunch or social classes..
Then again, house rules turned more and more tyranical after a year or two.
            >diplomacy is unfair, unless your hero gets it by random, no leveling it up
            >logistics is no fun, you can walk half the map while i can't, remove it.
            >air magic should be banned because teleport and fly ruin any strategy
            >necropolis c**t, frick off
            >tower bastard, eat a dick
            >dungeon prostitute, sit on a wiener
In the end, most games turned almost violent haha.

I'd say got for either choronological order if you enjoy start games and can stomach older graphics.
Otherwise, 2 and 3 are great starting spots.
In 3, do the Erathia campaign first, not the shadow one, because it's much harder.

The problem with this idea is that if a game was mediocre or bad, the majority of people aren't going to be very interested in a remake.

This is exactly why were getting a massively dumbed down RE4 Remilk. Some games have stood the test of time and don't need remakes.

It doesn't even look bad. I started it this Wednesday, I'm SO fricking hooked... and the graphics look awesome too.
I like how Leon looks and moves. The village, the church & cemetery, the lake. It looks awesome with the updated ports.

It's about as good as Dark Souls or Skyrim, so it definitely doesn't need a remake.
However that's still no reason to complain, it just means we're getting an extra good game from source material we already loved.
But I'm 90% positive it won't be nearly as good as the original in this case. I liked Leon being RE's Dante, if that's absent I won't enjoy it as much...
on the other hand, even while loving the original I'm constantly thinking
        >What if this same setting and story had instead been a classic game, taking itself more seriously and with less action?
and the remake will deliver on that front.

Also from the leaks, we are getting expanded story on all the characters.

      Anonymous

Sure. They can be as good as, or even arguably superior to the original (RE1 Remake, XCOM EU (purists aside)). This is because of a greater understanding of how the original worked and succeeded. I hear Firaxis played the original XCOM games all the time, and created a board game prototype.

The main issues people have is that often a remake isn't needed, since the original is perfectly fine as is (The Last Of Us Remake, Dead Space remake).

      Depends.

This may sound moronic, but I think games that are mediocre or bad, but are interesting should get remakes over good games. Remakes of good games can frick over what was good about the original game, feel unnecessary or add problems.

This guy has a point, why remake a masterpiece, when you could remake a flawed game with brilliant ideas too lofty for the time?

This is exactly why were getting a massively dumbed down RE4 Remilk. Some games have stood the test of time and don't need remakes.

This. RE4 is absolutely perfect, and a remake already exists. HD Project.

Enjoy losing your "friends" when they decide to cancel you or cause random drama due to their own extreme mental illness lmao. God damn, how does someone with this little self awareness even exist?

                >Dad died before I was born.
                >Mom used me as the daughter she never had, would send me to school with my hair in a sleek ponytail, or a braid.
                >Used to switch clothes from nice shirts and slacks she'd send me in to jean and a hoodie when I got to school.
                >Guys would hit on me if they didn't know me, had to explain I was a dude.
                >Went through a year of high school like this.
                >Finally said frick it and shaved my head
                >Mom had a freak attack and wouldn't talk to me directly for 2 weeks.

Alright, I went through that shit as a kid, and managed to shrug it off as I got older. Explain to me why trans folk can't just shrug off being accidentally misgendered when they meet someone the first time? You can't expect everyone to know your gender at first glance, and expecting them to ask your "pronouns" when you first meet is about as fricking obnoxious and narcissistic as it gets.

Same reason why they decry zoom calls. Their physical traits do not match their self-appointed identity. They obsess over said identity to an unhealthy degree. Therefore, anything that doesn't match said identity causes medium to severe mental trauma, including having to tell people what their pronouns are, as that implies that an explanation is necessary and not self-evident.
I am so glad that all my lgbtq+ friends willingly isolate from any larger lgbtq+ community. Echo chambers filled with toxic positivity that aren't just okay with being shoved in a box and labelled, they outright seek it out and demand it.

There's two kind of trans people, from my experience(i've met a bunch irl, i work at a quite liberal place)
There's the online vocal homosexuals, who wants the world to burn and kneel before them. They're not bad people because they're trans, they're just a bunch of degenrates who jumped on what they perceived as the "easy" ship.
Then there's the one you meet in real life( as in they actually go to work and stuff, they don't just wander around looking like monsters and screaming, they literally just maybe crossdress, maybe a guy got breasts)
Those ones tend to be much more understanding, because they're really just people who are uncomfortable in their bodies and don't know how to cope with that.

I think the big thing I've noticed is that being trans or not doesn't matter, a shitty person stays a shitty person. My best friend is FtM and I like him because he's down to Earth, respectful and yet completely irreverent. Also insanely good at vidya; that homosexual completed the Hollow Knight pantheon shit while I was stuck on Nightmare King Grimm.

says. Insecurity in their identity and feelings of inferiority and powerlessness so large leads to so much fragility that they absolutely must spew vitriol at any who don't play to the desires of themselves or others they themselves perceive as inferior and identify with. The mind of these individuals is not one that seeks improvement, confidence, self-development and they must attack those who have or seek them. This is not a purely sexual issue, but a self-realization one.

Then there's the second kind, like

There's two kind of trans people, from my experience(i've met a bunch irl, i work at a quite liberal place)
There's the online vocal homosexuals, who wants the world to burn and kneel before them. They're not bad people because they're trans, they're just a bunch of degenrates who jumped on what they perceived as the "easy" ship.

describes, who recognize some individualistic apsirations and can remain more secure in themselves, and separate themselves from a collective identity they could find easy solace in. E.g. The media's depiction of what a homosexual or transexual should be.

Love the sinner hate the sin, anons. Do not hate the troony, pity and help them as your brothers they are.

Astro Boy had entire issues dedicated to anti-robot "racism", civil rights, and other heady topics. Osomatsu-kun did basically nothing but talk about current events between the absurd children's comedy parts. GeGeGe no Kitarou was written by a war veteran with the shameless social commentary of a Roald Dahl novel.

I felt it made sense. The original Flintstones cartoon was a cartoon for adults, being less about wacky yabba dabba doo hijinx and more about society viewed through the lens of prehistoric times. It only got the association of being for children later. The comic just took that and updated it for modern times.

The Flintstones is an adult cartoon, but the charm behind it was that children weren't able to understand the adult undertones until they grew up. Nowadays, gen xers and millennial make it so stupidly cartoony and dark to sound "deep". Comics like these aren't cleverly written, they are tremendously dumb screeds that miss the entire purpose.

Opinions are opinions, they're not objective truth. But I guess you have to think it's objective truth for it to be an authentic opinion? Still, that leaves two types of people: Those who respect opinions and those who actively assert their opinions as fact over everyone else's. The latter deserve a lifetime of nightmare and pain honestly, but that's just my opinion.

There is no contradiction between saying game developers and publishers should stop trying to milk past success and new games are bad. By definition remakes and remasters are new, and lo and behold, just like original titles they end up sucking because so many developers and publishers can't make good games.

Yeah, the jokes are more varied than the original batch's "he is autistic and dont get girls advances" schtick

I personally really liked the Crash trilogy remake. I personally didn't notice anything wrong with the physics and proceeded to 100% all 3 games with no problems. having the time time trials added to 1&2 was worth any minor downgrade to me.

One thing that annoyed me is that IIRC the Crash 2 remake doesn't tell you about the long jump and high jump

I understand hating remakes on a laziness principle, but these people that hate remakes because they replace or displace the originals are delusional fanboys. I'd rather have AAA churn out endless remakes than new shit considering the absolute fricking state of the industry, at least the foundations will be solid, leave the new IPs to indies.

Spider-Man was not "always" a mantle and it arguably wasn't even during the Clone Saga. Miles was the first instance of trying to push it as a mantle.

                Anonymous

Those clones weren't Peter though. TONS of people have been Spider Man. The whole point of spider man is that anyone can be him, he's an average guy given powers and tasked to use them responsibly. He'll, Octavious has been Spider Man. And Miguel wasn't white either.

Otto Octavius became Spider-Man by LITERALLY killing Peter and replacing him. And he came after Miles, who established the trend in modern comics.

Having a super-villain hijack your body, steal your life, and take over your superhero role to satisfy his superiority complex (which the title makes a point of emphasizing) isn't exactly your standard "passing the mantle" script.

          Batgirl (

          >American comics
          >have to inject real life politics and happenings
          wow never seen this before

) introduced this character in 2011 (and used her for the first transgender wedding in comics in 2015)
          This comic

          Best one

          started in 2015
As previously stated, Miles Morales, who started the "minority character replaces white character trend" in the modern era, was introduced in 2011
Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel started in 2012
Jane Foster became Thor in 2014
Nick Fury was written out and replaced with his black son also named Nick Fury in 2014
The Question was killed and replaced with a Latina lesbian in fricking 2007

          etc

Flintstones was a niche humor comic that didn't sell all that well despite critical praise.

Carol Danvers was the star of a billion dollar movie, Jane Foster as Thor JUST got a movie, Nick Fury was essentially made into a villain so they could replace him with Samuel L. Jackson

                >Ultimate Spider-Man
                >Thor was made unworthy
                >Captain Marvel (but that was in the 80s so we'll give it a pass)
                >Nova
                >Nick Fury (I don't think he's dead but he's been written out almost entirely)
                >The Question
                >Doctor Fate
                >Green Lantern (Forma Original) was made into a homo
                >also I think Hal Jordan was dead when they introduced Simon Baz
                >Captain America (was only made old but then was made into a literal Nazi)
                >Ghost Rider
                >Hulk
                >Wolverine
                >Hawkeye
                inb4
                >b-but most of the originals came back
it still happened, and in some cases the legacies have completely supplanted the originals regardless

How are any of those subversive? Are you going to argue that edgy comics like Swamp Thing was not a thing?

Do you even know what extreme subversive is?
Replacing a character that has been done since the dawn of comics is nothing subversive.
Having the power puff girls grow up to become prostitutes and drug addicts is, making a comic about flintstones where they are in the "Vietnam war" and dealing with dark stuff is subversive.
Replacing a comic character with another comic character has always been done and nearly is expected.

You two are talking about different types of subversion, that is why your argument is going nowhere.

Is talking about 'cultural subversion' or subverting cultural or societal expectations.

Because Flintstones was literally just "generic '60s sitcom but stone age". It was made as a subversion of the typical Full House shows, a genre so old hat that nowadays "the '60s sitcom being subverted" is itself being DOUBLE dubverted and even THAT is old hat.

I neved undertood this "everyone feels alone so people just find purpose to their life". Like, trying to encompass every though in an answer so it can be interpreted as that belief.

I like to think people are bored all the time, so life is valued as how bored you aren't and that makes your value more. Which most poeple think "yeah, thats what i meant to find a purpose."... So i guess they are the same as the new testament, were anything can be morphed into what God said.

But I guess that belief works because not everyone is convinced as I am that living is fun, i guess.

        Anonymous

Specifically for humans the purpose of life is to seek their own happiness, the life long road with infinite bifurcations unique to every one of us but one same goal for everyone, everything we do and everything we are and strive for is for that sensation, happiness.

Since this wound up turning into an image thread of one of my favorite comics of the last decade, I think I'll contribute.

If you're curious about whether you'll like the comic or not, check it out on readcomiconline.li and, if you like it, I encourage you to purchase the recently-released hardcover – https://www.amazon.com/Flintstones-Deluxe-Mark-Russell/dp/1779514972/ref=sr_1_1?tag=ganker-20&crid=3PFV9ONBUYWZ2&keywords=russell+flintstones&qid=1659110188&sprefix=russell+flintstone%2Caps%2C104&sr=8-1

Just a wonderful satire that is also fairly heartwarming.

Thats the point, the whole reason it got made was to push industry censors limits and where they seem to draw the line, and so far it seems to be simply depicting nudity, the horrific gore rape is fine, but lord forbid depicting sex and nudity in the same story.

It's the point of authoritarianism. Everyone needs to be told what to do except me, because I know what's good for everyone and shouldn't be held back from pursuing that. And what everyone especially needs is for me to have even more money and authority.

He dismantled a lot of government jobs and screwed up a lot of agencies, which are still dealing with vacancies and backlogs. Not in a way to help anyone - things like fricking with the weather service, or supporting school scams because Trump ran a school scam. It benefitted his donors.

His foreign policy was also a fricking mess. He was the first president to ever meet with North Korea's leadership, and he did it immediately after their first successful nuke test. He told them they were awesome and basically informed the whole nation nukes were the right path. He got nothing out of it at all, North Korea played him like a fiddle.

That's just some of the stuff he did. On a practical level he was a total disaster, but most of his supporters focus only on the stuff he said at rallies.

No thanks. I like roleplaying but Persona makes me want to kill myself. I've read VNs that were less of a railroading slog. Probably just me. Just do not find the social stuff interesting whatsoever, since you are both forced to do it and it's on a scheduling constraint. There's games with systems like that who can integrate it into the game in a far more compelling way while also keeping it completely optional so you only do the things you actually like.
