Sequence break still exist and are more creative than just finding the hidden techs.
Bosses are easier but still fun, probably a game that's best played in the locked difficulty setting.
Got out of the starting area. I wish I could up the difficulty, but I'm really enjoying it. I wish I could still reverse walljump and I feel very paranoid not having found any hidden moves yet.
I'm also still very paranoid not every breakable wall is marked by cracks and waste so much time bombing/charge shotting everything. But I enjoy the dagger a lot more than the hammer, especially the backflip slash.
Aside from the general difficulty of marketing indie games, bullet hell is a genuinely niche genre that filters many people. You rarely see them discussed on Ganker, aside from the occasional 2hu thread (which isn't about the games anyways).
Undertale was able to sort of sidestep that issue by heavily downplaying the bullet hell aspect and making the actual gameplay segments of it trivially easy.
Last Command meanwhile goes full bore into it and is fairly difficult unless you die repeatedly in journo mode. And personally, I'd say the games story doesn't pick up until around halfway through. Also, the fact that the last act is so heavily derivative of Undertale makes it somewhat hard to discuss in a serious way.

I'm not great at Japanese but I'm not a beginner either. I've played a pretty decent amount of vinnies and JRPGs and when I played through Rabi-Ribi I understood 99% without looking up any words.
For some reason, I'm having more trouble with Tevi than anything else I've played before (beyond when I was a complete beginner). Like every other sentence has multiple words that I've never even seen before.
Is this the fabled "chuunibyou writing" I was warned about?

I'm so far(really early, chapter 1) enjoying it a lot but I have a couple of complaints >map markers not being done through the map and instead needing you to be on a specific tile, go into the "tactical pause" menu and then spam the pin marker button until you scroll to the marker you want is utterly fricking stupid and I don't remember Rabi Ribi having it. >it's so far a lot easier, boss wise.Again, I might be misremembering Rabi Ribi's bosses. >lack of hidden movement tech(beyond just goomba stomping enemies when they're jumping, which I admit I really enjoy doing and seems to be more common than Rabi Ribi's) means so far I can't really sequence break much. The voice acting is shit but it's not for the reasons you are thinking about. The VAs are solid, many of them have done great work before. It's the bland characters, the shitty script and the complete lack of directing that are making the lines awful to listen to. The game would be 1000% improved if all the portrait air was deleted and the voices muted.

So far it's fun and better than Rabi Ribi in terms of combat but it suffers when it comes to exploration since it feels like I am restricted in where I am allowed to go to first. But I am still early in game.

How the actual frick did this happen
RbRb's story didn't get in the way, and when it did you could just stare at the nice looking portraits, CGs and listen to the good music. Moreover Ribbon and Erina were naturally endearing so regardless if you didn't give a shit about the story the dialogue was serviceable.
Tevi on the other hand starts by throwing you a bunch of lore shit and world concepts that make no fricking sense and every character you meet thereafter behaves like a fricking c**t until the shota demon appears. Even then the "party" has zero chemistry and their cringe dialogue constantly interrupts the action, forcing you to listen to more nonsense and stare at some tumblr tier art.
Fricking refunded. Don't insult me by comparing this crap to Rabi Ribi.
Portraits were ok, cg weren't that good and shit compared to visual novels and other games. I didn't find anyone endearing because the dialog and story were trash and the only thing endearing is their design. No one should defend RbRb's story. The problem you have is mainly there being more story than RbRb, but that doesn't retroactively make rbrb story acceptable. I'd like to add that this isn't me saying you're wrong about Tevi.

Hollow Knight is only really hard when you are doing the Pantheon with restrictions.
It mostly has that reputation of being very difficult because it's very mainstream so lots of people not really all that good at video games or used to dying to bosses more than once or twice played it.
Both Rabi-Ribi was a lot more difficult than it, even on Expert, let alone Bunny Extinction, and from what little I've played of TEVI I'd be very, very, surprised if it was different.

Portraits were ok, cg weren't that good and shit compared to visual novels and other games. I didn't find anyone endearing because the dialog and story were trash and the only thing endearing is their design. No one should defend RbRb's story. The problem you have is mainly there being more story than RbRb, but that doesn't retroactively make rbrb story acceptable. I'd like to add that this isn't me saying you're wrong about Tevi.

About 3 hours in. Combat and bosses are better than Rabi-Ribi so far.
Seems to have a slightly stronger story focus but maybe that's just frontloaded, I don't really care about that aspect and already started just quickly skimming through it though.
Main character is really great, side characters are all a bit obnoxious so far.

Imo everything is better than Rabi Ribi except the bosses so far. They're still fine but hopefully they'll pick up later. Most of Rabis excellent bosses were added post launch as well so I still have hope.
I can't say for sure if its better or not but gameplay wise its just as good at worst.
Been playing a few hours and so far it's been really good. Started on hard, but so far it hasn't been that hard

Did I miss the Rabbit Charm equivalent for this game because how in the frick do you avoid Lily's second sweep with that laser during the desperation attack. It covers everything and Jump+ isn't enough
I remember playing Rabi-Ribi and started skipping the story after an hour or so because it was just pointless anime cliche this and that without proper "plot".

But yea the artstyle is a downgrade, it's clear that Tevi is more Lee and Crespirits baby than Gemas, if Gemas other game comes out looking closer to this than rabi-ribi then that's when it becomes a true problem

Some anon said you can sleep in your bed and change the difficulty.
You can change the difficulty freely after getting out of the tutorial, including difficulties not available at the start like Normal+ and Hard+.
How do you unlock the highest difficulty? The highest one that's available by default is very easy.
In RR you unlocked it after beating the hardest available difficulty. I'm guessing it's the same.
How does the difficulty compare to Hollow Knight?

Rabi-Ribi is for sure harder than HK, the main reason HK is considered the hardest is because it's just extremely well known.
That said we don't truly know how hard Tevi gets because It's not like rabi ribi started off with you fighting erina on BEX

Hollow Knight is only really hard when you are doing the Pantheon with restrictions.
It mostly has that reputation of being very difficult because it's very mainstream so lots of people not really all that good at video games or used to dying to bosses more than once or twice played it.
Both Rabi-Ribi was a lot more difficult than it, even on Expert, let alone Bunny Extinction, and from what little I've played of TEVI I'd be very, very, surprised if it was different.

The voice acting has no right to be this good. Did they just live off of rice for all this years to be able to afford this? Rabi-Ribi did okay but not "let's hire two dozen of the most expensive triple A list seiyuu for the spiritual successor!" levels amazing.
