Sprinting and sliding (and dashing) are trash mechanics (or rather their implementations in modern mainstream FPS are), but they're not the only way to have fast movement in games.

How is Halo an arena shooter? I don't think you know what that label means. Halo is just as bad as Call of Duty.
Arena style maps, no loadouts, weapons and items are picked up from spawn points on the map, map control is needed for power weapons and power ups, etc.

that halo clearly isn't an afps because it doesn't play at all like an actual afps. it's way closer to something like tribes without skiing or planetside, and no one would call those games afps.
Meh, I guess our definition just differs. I think Halo has all the core tenants of an Arena shooter because unlike tribes/planetside its' core is deathmatch in arena style maps. Halo just plays slower and has some different mechanics than the PC arena shooters of old
