As someone who has ridden horses before, I can see why. Too much time being on top of one is very unpleasant on the groin, probably worse if your dick is rubbing against something as hard as metal.
i mean, the only thing that's really missing is the early 20th century metal breastplates.
for the longest time after the early modern period no one wore armor since there wasn't much of a point.
they wore less of it but cuirassiers still wore armor during the Napoleonic wars. Supposedly the breastplate was bullet proof (against the guns of that time) but was too heavy to be worn by infantrymen.
>early modern aesthetics >warhammer
They are trying to go for the Landsknecht look so hard, all while they completely ignore the things that clash with this look in a typical American manner. >early medieval shields >early medieval side-swords as main weapon >early medieval metal skull-caps as main helmet >breastplate that stops halfway at the chest >shoulder plates attached to nothing >no helmet at all, meaning instant death to any strike/projectile coming from above
The longer you look at it, the more revolting it becomes.
shit like Fear and Hunger is reaching a huge audience off the back of that engine.
it's by no means what you should aspire to finish your career using, but it's certainly a start.
I don't like shitting on people's efforts and I hope he compiled his sources so everyone can access them, but yeah it's pretty bad.
The work is way too busy which is bad on the eyes.
he made a 1480 Vienna room game
it is pretty but it the amount of content is equivalent to pretty much a single RPG scene.
Yeah that looks good I guess, but it doesn't have the same charm as real pixel art. That's the problem making that nearly high res art with pixels will take way too much time which means the game will have no content.
It's funny seeing countries with little Christian history like Japan or China or Iran referring explicitly to Jesus in dates but the angloid fell to such golem levels not to offend vous savez qui. I'm glad this hasn't caught in my euro place (they pushed hard for it around 2010 but it failed).

CE and BCE is mainly used in European academia, obsessed-kun. It was also invented in europe
I remember in middle school when they pushed for this change and even the teacher said 'well, its the exact same dating system, so I don't really care what you use for it' and then by college the professors all said AD/BC again
proper tactical gear is sexy as frick though
offers much more defence in it's intended environment as well
average donut eater in a vest is lame yeah, same as no one glorifies peasants who got a spear and some rags from their lord and were sent to battle
they can. specifically the ones made in time periods where firearms were common.
they weren't handed out as standard because they were fricking heavy and expensive.
Could be talking out my ass here, but I remember the term "Bullet Proof" comes from hanging a sample breastplate, with a dent in it from a bullet, somewhere in front of your armor shop. It's the literal Proof that your armor can take a Bullet.
I rather think it's similar to the french, or perhaps taken from there, "a l'epreuve de", meaning that the piece of equipment has been put to the thest by bullets/water/fire /etc and not been found wanting
There's an old (but beautiful) RTS game called Cossacks: European Wars where this is actually demonstrated.
17th century pikemen have armor protection against infantry weapons, muskets, fragmentation etc. then you "upgrade" to 18th century pikemen which are cheaper, but are just unarmored meatshields
Visually they go from metal cuirasses and caps to just wearing stylish and colorful jackets lel
1200s and 1300s were peak
the ballsack in 1500s is like a target
not really since there's supposed to be a big horse in the way
Getting stabbed in your horse dick still sounds painful though.
Is someone gonna fill in the huge gap?
Cheeky c**t
Did they decide their dick wasn't worth protecting anymore in the 1500s?
the one in that pic is missing the codpiece for some reason.
They usually leave that part because they have to ride horses. Otherwise they cover it with mail

For me, it's the 12-13th century they don't make em like that any more

My homie
early modern aesthetics are severely underrated. one of the few things off the top of my head that has it is warhammer fantasy.
I'm with you man, Rennaissance/early modern is the best period.
>early modern aesthetics
>warhammer

This is guy is talented why doesn't he just make a game?
making pixel art is nothing like making a game, moron.
Making hundreds are drawings is literally the hardest part.
If he want's to make an RPG, RGPMaker already exists.
>RGPMaker
shit like Fear and Hunger is reaching a huge audience off the back of that engine.
it's by no means what you should aspire to finish your career using, but it's certainly a start.
There is a guy called Pixel Historical Warriors who is attempting to make a pixel game with all kinds of historical armor
looks like shit lol
I don't like shitting on people's efforts and I hope he compiled his sources so everyone can access them, but yeah it's pretty bad.
The work is way too busy which is bad on the eyes.
the backgrounds seem like the biggest issue, it makes it seem a bit busy like you said
the dudes look fine
They're ok, not impressive, but yeah the visual clutter is ugly.
neat, should have a list of sources in th extra material
he made a 1480 Vienna room game
it is pretty but it the amount of content is equivalent to pretty much a single RPG scene.
this trailer is about 50% of it
Yeah that looks good I guess, but it doesn't have the same charm as real pixel art. That's the problem making that nearly high res art with pixels will take way too much time which means the game will have no content.
You're missing quite a few ages in that picture, chieftain
A certain Native American groups pre-1492
>CE
We've been using BC and AD for centuries. Why are they problematic now?
Post-modernism "scientist"
Certain groups don't like Christ being mentioned.
to be more inclusive and less europe/christian centered
should show army armour
It's funny seeing countries with little Christian history like Japan or China or Iran referring explicitly to Jesus in dates but the angloid fell to such golem levels not to offend vous savez qui. I'm glad this hasn't caught in my euro place (they pushed hard for it around 2010 but it failed).

trust the science chuddie
>Armor gets discontinued in favor of aesthetics
Literally Elden Ring, the worst armor and worst armor design in the entire genre.
Peak armor design was when they figured out how to make gapless armor
proper tactical gear is sexy as frick though
offers much more defence in it's intended environment as well
average donut eater in a vest is lame yeah, same as no one glorifies peasants who got a spear and some rags from their lord and were sent to battle
For me it's the armet. The quintessential knightly helmet
Defence is a dump stat, just don't get hit dummy
lets see breast plate stop a bullet

wear a tabard or flashy overcoat over a tactical vest, anon. be the change you want to see in the world.
camouflage is for pussies
why does no one ever think about other types of modern armor?
why are you like this?
what do you mean? this is an armor thread, and modern sports armor counts just as much as SWAT armor
Damn roman shields were so cool
>1200s
Let me guess, you NEED more?
You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.
