Wait until you play Armored Core 1 for the PS1 and play the first stage without having any idea about the controls except for reading the instruction manual. You have to beat that stage in order to start the game or else it takes you back to the title screen.
I wouldn't be pissed since there's checkpoints in the first stage. Beating the helicopter boss in AC6 is pretty much the equivalent of beating the first stage of AC1. You just got filtered because you haven't tried the other AC games (yes, including the Ace Combat series).
