Does it have a better naval balance?Because DH naval battles suck and the only mod that does a decent job to balance it is TRP.
AOD has a few mods (like the one in OP) but yeah DH has the mods, the only one I would want is Kaiserreich I guess. There are already a few mods that try and make a more accurate ww2 simulation like CORE and improved 1936.

it looks like literally the same game though?
but how is AOD more complex? it even has the same sliders and resources like in DH as seen in[...]
genuinely curious not hating, ill probably try AOD later.
Each unit has it's own stocks of either oil, supplies or both, which reminds me of hoi3. DH doesn't have this and AOD has a larger focus on the economy.
These province shapes are terrible for the gameplay of DH
Look at how so many of them snake around and border like ten other provinces
And with the big square counters it will be hard to tell where anything is
h8 how in DH it is not immediately apparent if 2 nearby provinces are traversable or not. a good example in pic related would be waldenburg and katowice
this also makes africa borderline unplayable due to how many neighbouring provinces are actually inaccessible, you need to pause and memorize
also doesn't AoD have beach icons for provinces that can be navally invaded? or have they made it so naval invasion is possible everywhere?
If you click on a province it’ll list the names of all connected provinces on the top left next to the province picture and infrastructure/resource info.
One thing I've noticed in AoD is that the oil situation is far more historically accurate - in DH, I never worried about oil even as Axis nations, but in AoD oil is a much scarcer resource for nations like Germany and Japan, which makes acquisition of oil producing provinces much more critical.
I'm trying AoD now and it seems like there's no downside to promoting commanders. In DH commanders lost a skill level every time you promoted them, while here it seems like you can promote a major general to field marshal with no consequences. Am I missing something here?
IIRC commanders gain experience/skill at a faster rate the lower they are on the chain of command. Meaning you’d be handicapping the growth of your best generals by promoting them too quickly. This may also be a moddable setting in db/misc.txt but it’s been a while since I’ve checked.
The main difference between AOD and DH is AOD has more complexity on the economic and military side compared to DH.
it looks like literally the same game though?
They are both based on Hoi2

I believe it does have better naval balance than DH but not entirely sure.
nice trojan homosexual
I found it on the parakek forum https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/aod-dec-mod-feat-darkest-hour-map-reupload-2021.557864/page-8
The main thing I like is that quality units are able to beat masses of shitty units. Something that is basically the opposite in hoi2 and DH.
Not really realistic tho innit?
AOD lacks good mods though. It blasts base DH out of the water but I see no reason why I should play this when TRP and such exists

Yeah but DH has the better manpower system and the 1933 startdate
Interesting but AoD 1.14 will apparently have a new map .

Who is updating this in the year of our Lord, 2023?

Or just click on the province.
>also doesn't AoD have beach icons for provinces that can be navally invaded
DH has this
>also doesn't AoD have beach icons for provinces that can be navally invaded?
It does.
ah so you must switch mapmodes?
dropped

yes i know that
constantly clicking around provinces to remind yourself which areas are non-passable is not convenient
Forgot to mention you can have your divisions either do Valhalla or scorched earth in AOD.
That’s a cool feature you don’t see enough

Not sure if this is in base AOD or if it's mod but this is neat.
Where the heck are CAS planes though?

I think you are right, havent played AOD in years, but I remember that being a thing in the dev diaries.
