Because most nerd comic jokes waste panels to set up a punchline that would be stronger with less panels. In this instance it works because it's entirely built around subversion and applies a real world logic to SA2. It's the opposite effect in this case where a shorter delivery would actually make it more generic.
I'm not disputing that sometimes trimming tye fat from a joke can make it better, but it's certainly not a formula or universally applicible in any way and i can't count the number of times some smug autist on Ganker has butchered a well executed joke to "fix it"

i will never stop finding it funny how a bunch of inept giga autists on Ganker convinced themselves that the formula for comedy is to minimize the length of the joke at all costs and they believe it wholeheartedly. i don't know how or why that came to be here, maybe it was a reactionary response to tim buckly not knowing how to deliver a joke concisely, but the way Ganker generalized that to every possible scenario is actually deranged.
Ganker will listen to norm macdonald tell the moth joke and say he should have just told the punchline immediately after the setup
