I don't necessarily think you're wrong about some of this stuff, but the white man thing: Halsin, Minsc, and Gale are not sniveling cowards or the lowest of the low. They're portrayed pretty outwardly as being likeable or somewhat competent, even if Halsin got captured, he doesn't really need you to rescue him. Minsc isn't exactly the brightest bulb, but he's portrayed as endearing and enduring. Gale is a bit shifty, but he's also an otherwise competent and likeable character.
