Scaling from 1080 to 1440 is bad. Straight to 2160 is a good idea.

but you're not scaling. Games aren't designed for 1080p and then poorly scaled to 1440p or 4k. They're rendered at 1440p and 4k so it makes zero difference.

Dont upgrade. It feels great until your GPU is outscaled by pajeet coding. Now you cant go back to 1080p without feeling like shit and now you gotta buy the latest overpriced gpu to maintain performance. Its a trap.

unless you buy a proper monitor like an lg oled 42
easy to scale down to native ultra wide resolutions

I remember there was a game that ran at a pretty nice resolution. It was tekken 5 of course.

Was on 1080p for years and recently went 1440p with 140Hz and curved and the first hours of playing was like playing at 60FPS for the first time.

If you have to ask, you're too much of a poorgay to afford it either way

1440 is an old cope resolution that is meant to exist for tiny pc monitors. Monitors aren't tiny any more so get a real resolution.

So appears almost same like 1080p?

24" 1080p and 27" 1440p offer very similar PPI so while you'd gain a bigger screen you're not gaining additional clarity, you're just offsetting the larger screen size.

8k is pretty much the minimum nowadays.
You don't wanna be a poorgay right? Get 8k.

I can kinda agree with this.

went from 1k -> 2k last year. Then monitor was faulty and i replaced it with a 4k recently because it was on sale for cheaper than any 2k screen and i thought ... why not?

issue is that i have a decent rig. i can play max graphics on cyberpunk in 1k had to drop it down a lot for 2k and dropped it down even more for the 4k.

That's the issue i have found is that you have to drop Graphics settings for modern games as you increase resolution if you don't have a monster GPU to handle it.

I am running a 3060TI. Most games run at max if they have DLSS and i turn that on.

if you don't watch many movies then go for 1440p
but if you watch a lot of movies on your PC then I would recommend 4k

I can't justify the HD space wasted fro 4k movies though... but i don't care enough about films perhaps and some people really do.

But the human eye can't see anything above 720p

people who say this must be half blind to start with.

    Straight to 4K is best.
You can keep playing in 1080p integer scaled, to keep your GPU performance, or native 4K for older and less demanding games.
Plus it won't mess up 2D games with stretchy uneven pixels, as 2160 = 1080 x 2 = 720 x 3. This also applies to movies and media, since the majority is 720, 1080 or 4K. None of that is in 1440p.
4K also allows for nice phosphor dot filters in emulators, way more fine than 1440p.

    just stick to 1080p
modern devs cant make games run at higher resolutions

I've had all three and currently at 4k. 4k is the way to go but you need a high end gpu to get the most of it. If you want to play AAA games at the highest fidelity, look for an HDR10 certified display (not HDR400/600 they're memes). But if you play gacha and anime stuff then HDR is useless

Don't. If you only know 1080p then it looks crisp and perfect for you and you can cruise on mid budget builds and play games on ultra without issues. If you move over to 1440p or 4K then it's fricking over for you if you aren't updooting your pc every two years, and you won't be able to go back to 1080p
