They're not a beggar though they provide an in game service to you free of charge and then later you charge them rent
You owe it to them to make them something better than garden shed tier commie blocks or medieval castle dungeon tier dwellings

You get rent? Is this a new update?
I'll space them out later when I have enough money for pylons, will probably still have shacks though

In hardmode there's a tax collector npc who makes the others pay you rent.

I literally do not care about anyone who isn't me. I'm physically incapable of seeing other people as people. They're just things that exist to do what I want.

Do you even get substantial coin from charging them rent?

About 10 gold, though they probably made this higher.

Having worked to feed and house the homeless I can assure you that beggars do indeed believe they have the right to be choosers.

Just installed magic storage, very obtuse crafting. Made a storage box and some connector thing but I can't find how to open them

              Anonymous

You need a storage heart which you can make using diamonds (or shadow diamonds that are exclusive to the mod and are dropped by a few bosses when beating them the first time)
There's also a robot NPC that tells you how to craft magic storage units

Chest rooms are fine to me, but it's weird how vanilla hasn't gotten crafting from all nearby chests yet

The closest it got to that is having the chest open while near several crafting stations.

Does biome spread bother people? Between the Clentaminator and them making it not tape the Jungle, it's a minor nuisance at best.
I almost miss the times where corruption would spawn in the jungle at the start of hardmode, and it was a race to get the Steampunker before it did too much damage.

Probably an issue if you play for hundreds of hours

Yea its a minor nuisance that I could do without
The first time you get to hardmode its "saving the world" and "cleaning the corruption"

The sixth time its "ugh my corruption is spreading again gotta make pits again"

When I am doing a playthrough with friends I could not care less about building, but when I am solo I like to put in some more effort for worlds I make for a particular purpose like my arena, farm and storage worlds
      >I've never heard of a bigger waste of time.
I can think of plenty. Posting on Ganker is a good example

I don't mind building decent housing on vanilla playthrough.

I'd be more inclined to actually build my NPCs nice houses if there weren't so fricking many of them. There's like 30 fricking NPCs and all but 5 or so exist to sell you ONE thing at best before you never speak to them ever again.

That's what large worlds are for.

The problem isn't space, the problem is I can't be fricked to build lavish housing for 20+ different NPCs I'll never interact with more than once.

I like to give them some aesthetic appeals. Plus, it's nice to be able to carve out a large part of the world to be safe from enemies. Top it off with a town pylon for faster travel between regions, and it all comes together.

20 NPCs? lol try playing this game modded. You'll have 50+ to deal with.

Thorium adds quite a few, and they're worth it for the most part. They offer some unique items and services, like the cobbler.
