There are two kind of people, those who fully understand MH and beat Demozeno with all weapons solo and those whose opinion about the quality of the games doesn't matter.
They're OK.
Every single attack has a lot of recovery time and weight to it, Almost every fight is the equivalent of a miniboss or actual boss in a souls game, and extreme autism focused around attack timings and perfect positioning is highly rewarded.
The series has a problem that varies between games, where you spend way too much time between content you want to be experiencing travelling by foot or dealing with an interloping c**t of a monster that is difficult to run from.
They're okay. Some people say they're similar but they're really not. The only real similarities are the weapons have commitment/weight as does the targeting. Overall, if you like Souls then you'll probably enjoy Monster Hunter. Most people who like one typically like the other.

If you're a chad and want good combat, yes. Monster Hunter combat is near peak of 3D action combat where your positioning and enemy knowledge matters more than your ability to hit your "im invincible" button. If you're a queer who wants "le exploration and lore" stay with Souls shit

No, lol. Capcom has never banned any cheaters in any Monster Hunter. Thankfully, unless you're playing with Chinese players, you shouldn't worry about running into them too often. As far as mods like cosmetic stuff, that's all client side, so unless someone else has that same mod, they won't see any differences. Just follow proper etiquette and don't bring weapons that do like a billion damage to hunts and you should be fine.
How exactly does the Expansion work? Are they basically seperate games or when you play through with the expansion you still have to make your way through base World content first.
Monster Hunter will never be the best because it will never compare to humanoid sized bosses regardless of difficulty like in DMC and the Souls games. There's something inherently better about rival type fights on equal footing that can't be beaten by chipping at giant characterless animal shaped hitboxes.
