I think Buu saga has good things too, I enjoyed the introduction of Goten and (kid) Trunks, the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai was going smoothly but I think it shouldn't have been interrupted (though Majin Vegeta killing a bunch of innocent civilians from the crowd was dark as frick, probably one of the darkest moments in Dragon Ball, I think only rivaled by what happens after the 22nd tenkaichi or the Freeza saga).
It has a lot of good moments in the later half too, like when Vegeta finally comes to terms with Goku (that thumbs up they give to each other, still gives me the chills thinking about it, great moment).
All in all, as much as people shit on Dragon Ball, I don't think it's as bloated as many other long as frick on-going series. I still like a lot of the stuff in Super too, like the whole Zamasu saga, I enjoyed that a lot... never would have imagined to have Future Trunks back and it was actually good (only thing I didn't like was that they redesigned him to have a more spiky hairdo and blue hair instead of purple)
I liked this game a lot. I didn't even know who the frick Boly was back then, but he sure was cool to me. I remember showing the game to a friend and he laughing at me because he was up to Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and it looked so primitive to him.
The actual good things from the Buu saga are Vegeta coming to terms with what he is and all the Buu/Satan stuff, also maybe some of the stuff with Gohan and Viedl, that part where Gohan teaches her to tap into her ki and fly is one of the most inspiring things in the whole comic.
Rest of it is garbage. Garbage with some very dynamic art, great action and and cool panneling but garbage.
DBZ should have ended with Cell. Everything after is trash.
This but with Vegeta honestly. The moronic powercreepery had been there since Goku drinks the real REAL magic water but it gets ut of fricking control and drives everything off a cliff during Namek.
Also to add I agree with you anon in the sense that had it continued post Cell into the tournament but actually had the tournament instead of introducing Babidi and Buu, that would have been fine too, even if it peaked with a goku and vegeta battle and undid the natural Gohan as most powerful ending. But instead we get this rehash of what we already saw with piccolo daimao and Cell, Buu terrorizing earth, except without any tension or meaningful stakes since everything is so blown out of scale
Me and you’re responding to and yeah I think it ending with what gohan had been built to be since ep1 of Z was a natural ending. Personally I prefer dragon ball as a series though so if goku had been the main char throughout Z, I wouldn’t have complained, but he spends most of it injured, travelling, dead etc
What I hated about after Cell was everything after buu expels his evil: hours of gotenks, the coffee candy fight, evil buu being basically invincible and travelling between worlds and dimensions, going back to being a comedy series except this time not funny, all the side characters that you were taught to care about over hundreds of hours of stories getting turned into food as a joke in contrast to the poignant deaths in dragon ball and Z up to Cell. Compare the deaths in dragon ball and the Saiyan saga to how everyone dies in Buu. It felt like toriyama treated the audience with contempt for caring about anything and he just wanted to trash as much as possible to keep himself amused.
You didn’t enjoy the saiyan invasion? I thought that was the perfect prologue to DB, piccolos redemption, kuririn and yajirobi contributing to the victory, all the twists and turns.

They really went the extra mile with Butoden 2. All the different outcomes for the story mode, the different endings depending on which difficulty you play/how you play... and they only had like half a year or so of development, it's crazy.
Since this is a DBZ game thread... can anyone who owns a real copy of Sega Saturn's Shin Butoden tell me if the BGM sound is fricked in the original?
I burned 2 CD-Rs with it and both have the same issue. Music starts at random parts when matches begin, then they stop, and a different track starts playing afterwards.
I know the game is not good but I still want to experience it somehow as it was the last "real" Butoden game.
If you eat a senzu bean you did not by any stretch of the imagination beat the god damn Cell game

Super Butouden 2 is a masterpiece. The story mode is still unrivaled by any other fighting game.
The Mr. Satan/Cell fight is the reason I started watching the show.

You have no idea how happy I am they made a Satan sprite and animated this fight and all that; it shows they actually did give a shit.
