I am so looking forward to playing it again someday. It's been like five years and I've since switched to PC and sold all my consoles so I have no way of playing it. I just want a port though. No Blueslop remake please.

I was in your position but I ended up buying a PS4 because let's be honest, it's never coming to PC.

Bloodborne doesn't deserve the top spot at all. The bosses are not that good and the limb break system is not a good substitute of stagger.
This is the current ranking including avaiable DLCs

You're wrong on so many accounts. BB and DS3 shit all over Elden Ring.

Are you moronic? DS3 sucked ass, they should have called it Dark Souls Smash and just made it a boss simulator. The first five areas are the worst shit in the series. What a joke.

I can't fathom how someone can say Dark Souls 3 is better than Elden Ring, or even put it up there with Bloodborne considering what a moronic half-baked game it was.
            >Boy I sure do like areas with zero fricking color, pointless destructible clutter everywhere, and completely disjointed gameplay that can't tell if it wants to be Demons Souls, Dark Souls 2, or Bloodborne.

Bloodborne literally has roguelite dungeons and 90% of the bosses are absolutely terrible. DaS3 is the first From game where the majority of the bosses are absolute bangers. Additionally, it's map design is actually good and with tons of winding paths, I just replayed the whole series and it objectively has the most complex and interesting maps of any DaS entry. (And much more complex than bloodborne)

Oh, a zoomer, okay now it makes sense. I know this is hard for your zoomie mind to grasp, but the Souls series wasn't always a moronic boss rush with filler content between them.

Break what to whom? You're a fricking idiot if you think Dark Souls was a "boss rush with filler content." Levels in Demons Souls, Dark Souls, and Dark Souls 2 were generally more complex with boss encounters being fairly straightforward. Dark Souls 3 is "what if every boss was Ornstein and Smough or Artorias" without understanding what made those bosses special.

The only terrible bosses are the club+blade undead giant and the dlc cleric beast. All the rest are fun to fight (maybe not Micolash)

The only good non-DLC boss in the entire game is Gascoigne, which, UNTIL DAS3, is standard practice for fromsoft. Load the game with shit bosses then add the good content in the dlc.

Cleric Beast, Blood Starved Beast, Vicar Amelia, Paarl (fight him early), Martyr Logarius, and Gehrman are all very good fights. Then there are many other non boss fights with other hunters that are some great ones too.

I believe that's because some people discovered the series with 3, so it has a special place in their heart. Or maybe because they think faster movements + more stamina for rolls make a better gameplay, idk. I hated 3 too, and didn't really enjoy the gameplay of BB since it felt too different from DS1 and 2, and the rally mechanic felt stupid to me. ER is fine because it gives you a lot of different options to play the game as you want, so you can easily choose the gameplay you like.

Consoles are dead in the water at this point and it's not going to get any better. PC will continue to assimilate everything. If an official port doesn't happen, it's only a matter of time until you can emulate it.

I would prefer it this way. DaS was a spiritual successor to DeS, Bloodborne feels like a successor to both (even though at one point it may have been a sequel to DeS) and Elden Ring is a successor to those. A world where DaS2 and 3 dont exist means that ER wouldve came out sooner and we probably wouldve had more content for Bloodborne and Sekiro.

A world where Dark Souls 3 didn't exist, Elden Ring wouldn't have been the same as a lot of experimenting and groundwork for how most mechanics work was done by Dark Souls 3. Dark Souls 3 was also the most experimental with enemy behaviour and combat mechanics and that's why we see enemies relying entirely on hyperarmor rather than passive poise and a more dynamic combat flow that actually surpasses Bloodborne

          Anonymous

That is the worst opinion I've read in a fricking month. Dark Souls 3 is the most experimental Souls game? Frick, that's not just wrong: it's fricking stupid. Most experimental goes to Dark Souls 2, the most controversial game because it told almost the entire "formula" to go frick itself.
          >Timed online interactions rather than perma-co-op
          >Powerstancing

          >hard mode covenant and two different tower defense covenants.
          >duel arenas with point systems
          >bonfire ascetics and NG+ changes
          >i-frames as a stat
          >upped stamina usage across the board, combat purposefully less responsive to encourage thoughtful play
          >100% physical resist shields don't exist in the early game to force you to somewhat learn how to play
          >countless semi-viable gimmick weapons
          >elemental/status defenses as % reduction instead of flat
There's probably a lot more I'm missing, but whether or not you like Dark Souls 2 doesn't change the fact that it changed the most about the formula aside from maybe Bloodborne.

I would argue that most of what it tried didn't work for various reasons but I do give DaS2 credit for trying new things. BB is just entirely different (which is where From is at their best) but DaS3 and especially ER I found to be extremely formulaic and generally very bland.

Without Dark Souls 3 Elden Ring core mechanics wouldn't have been as improved.
Dark Souls 3 (base game or DLC) introduced
        >Hyperarmor based tanking
        >Percentage based damage reduction which scales into NG+ cycles
        >Charged spells, similar to charged attacks but with extra damage, stagger or effects
        >A skill system with utility effects which can be swapped each for one hand
        >Hyperarmor reliant enemies which drastically increased the variety of combat
        >Enemy design that forces even mid combo directional dodges (especially clear towarda the endgame and in the DLCs)
Elden Ring inmprovements and success are built over Dark Souls 3 which was built over Bloodborne which was built over Dark Souls and Demon's Souls

Blade of darkness is better than any Fromsoft game BTW

Bloodborne has better art than other games but at the end of the day its the same open world slop with enemies slapped everywhere between bosses when you roll roll roll until your muscular memory learnt all the techniques (usually consisting in hitting only one or maybe two times then rolling back)

gameplay and world wise dark szouls 2 is better. its just got a consistent setting and is carried by victorian / vanhelsing /lovecraft bullshit + good soundtrack and you know it. doesnt stop it from feeling good, but still

souls games are slop. they never showed intent of making it better and bigger, they keptwith the slop because it still sold. the only attempt they made at bringing more was dark souls 2 and even then it was kida weak. they especially have no excuses since they asset flip the living shit out of it, when they dont straigthup port the assets

I think DeS and DaS has timeless gamefeel.
The most "turn-based" feeling of an action game.

Ehh, too gimmicky and 1 tone for my taste, poor level design and fairly flat with Fountainhead and Mibu being the only cool looking location, the latter which is just a lamer version of Fishing Hamlet.
Combat felt like it needed more options and enemy AI less reliant on longer pre-baked combos, way too easy as a game to master.

          >Combat felt like it needed more options and enemy AI less reliant on longer pre-baked combos, way too easy as a game to master.
I loved the combat but tbh by the end it felt a bit like a slog. Once you figure out all enemies/bosses and can confidently clear them there's not much more depth to the combat. Even the boss gauntlet with new variants felt like a big slog to me. Kind of unrelated but I ended up enjoying nioh 2 a lot more because of the combat depth/variety.

            Anonymous

My problem with nioh 2 is the enemies are way too simple. They give you all of these cool tools but in my experience you can just play it like dark souls and do perfectly fine because the difficulty comes more from taking damage than the enemies being difficulty. I feel like fromslop in comparison the enemies do much less damage but are still more challenging

              Anonymous

Yeah a lot of enemies are fairly simple in nioh but can hit like a truck. As the game progresses though into ng+ and onwards that's where the more interesting stuff gets introduced and original simple enemies get beefed up with new move sets. Nioh is a bit frustrating in that it has a ton of simple mechanics that are never really explained and the game doesn't really ramp up till several ngs in so if you're not invested in the combat system you're not going to see all it has to offer annoyingly.
I think difficulty comes from a combination of heavy hitting enemies and managing your stamina but again that depends on the weapon you pick. Some like odachi and axe trivialise half the first ng.
It definitely feels like a game tailor made for me though. Between fun combos and star autism everything just comes together.

                Anonymous

Maybe I didn't like it because I used the axe/fists. I won't pretend like you can't trivialize souls games with certain tactics

                Anonymous

Half the fun in nioh comes from op builds that break the game in the late ngs where everything is stacked up against you. Crafting armour, accessory sets all with the purpose of adding crazy amounts of damage to your shurikens or bombs while also offering the ability to not use up shurikens at all when throwing them allowing you to two shot bosses with them. Or perfecting a satisfying combo with kusarigama while applying some 3 different status effects. The ng cycles intentionally get unfair because the devs expect you to break the game mechanics and get the most ridiculous and memey builds imaginable. The sheer number of build varieties you can invest in and still be viable is what keeps me coming back.

Haven't played Sekiro yet but Bloodborne took all the combat and exploring they'd been building upon and then faceplanted when it came to the items scattered around the world. Seems like a small thing but you never knew what the white glowing thing was going to be in DaS and DS2, it could be souls, yeah, but it could also be a sweet armor set or weapon or a cool ass ring. In Bloodborne it was just bullets or blood till I quit. BB would never be on top for me.

      >it could be souls, yeah, but it could also be a sweet armor set or weapon or a cool ass ring
It could be those things in Bloodborne too. Did you drop the game in the first area or are you really that bad at exploring?

        Anonymous

Yeah I didn't get that far at all. I beat some priest guy at a bridge, went another way and there was a wolf guy at a graveyard and then in another direction there was a big non boss rat I think guarding the first actual new item I found and it turned out to be one of the weapons I could have chosen at the start so I got mad and stopped playing. However it may improve further on, they dropped the ball in the first city area.

          Anonymous

There's an armor set you can find in the first area too. But yeah that's literally just the first area dude. There's plenty of other weapons, armor sets, tools and what not to reward your exploration. You should give it another chance some time.

Yeah I've got it installed and I've been thinking about restarting of late. Probably will soon. The items were literally my only gripe and if I know it gets better then there's literally no problem.

Weapons in bloodborne are rare treasures to be coveted. They couldnt have a moronic big arsenal like dark souls because each weapon is so intricate with the trick system

            Anonymous

Yeah but you can throw your players a bone early on. Every other souls game you can find cool stuff early on. They could have placed a weapon that wasn't one of the first 3 options behind that giant rat instead of later on. I don't think there are many other people like me who had been getting steadily mad at only picking up consumables and then got broken by the weapon being something I could have already had but it certainly did it for me.

Saying every weapon plays the same is just flat-out dishonest. The kirkhammer feels nothing like the threaded cane and the rifle spear plays nothing like the saw spear

                Anonymous

Weapons must be wildly different in moveset and alpha strike to amount to any difference, and those are the exception that proves the rule. In fact Kirkhammer feels different because it's one of the few weapons with lots of hyperarmor in severla attacks, meanwhile Raluyo can trade much heavier slower weapons because all charged attacks from most weapons are the exact same, which is moronic.
Bloodborne weapons are identical to Dark Souls 1 and 2 where you are swinging damage sticks in what is basically a linear tradeoff of swing time and damage. For example only in later entries are designed so that an halbers and a greatsword are 20% slower than a spear and a sword but stun enemies when charged or with multiple attacks.

I used to feel the same but the more time passes the more the rosey tint fades. The Souls formula is just done to death. Dark Souls is back on top for me now, for no other reason than the insanely engrossing journey it felt like the first time I played it. No other playthroughs will recreate that feeling, but that first one is seared into my mind and I'll cherish it forever. I played Demon's Souls first and put hundreds of hours into that too btw, but it feels more like a prototype to me. Bloodborne was a good twist on the formula with its unique and interesting setting, and the trick weapons too, but the journey itself didn't have the same magic. Sekiro is amazing in its own rights but I don't feel like there's much to be gained in ranking it next to the actual Souls games. The Dark Souls sequels were boring and uninteresting. Elden Ring is total bloatware and a horrible unbalanced mess that had nothing going for it after Limgrave besides pretty scenery.

        >I'm not a huge fan of open world games, BOTW was the only one I truly vibed with.
I'm in that boat too and I hated ER. The meticulously crafted level design of the Souls games is restricted to "legacy dungeons" as the players have called them and the open world is mostly just empty space with lots of copy pasted assets in them. The best way I can describe it is to think of two different but connected areas in a Souls game, now instead of a corridor or a bridge or something, put a huge open field between them, with some generic cave systems or abandoned ruins (copy pasted) here and there, and that's basically what Elden Ring's world is like. And don't expect the world to feel alive or anything. It's just fields upon fields of static, hostile creatures and the occasional npc with insanely vague quests.

            Dishonest drone.
Btw this cool looking open world dragon fight?

The game itself is ultimate Dark Souls with better bosses and combat and more stuff to do.
Stance and stagger further diversifies weapon types and hyperarmor was reworked in a more complex tiered cumulative system.
You swap weapons faster and have an item pouch to quickly select 4 consumables, so you can keep flasks and 2 quick items there.
It also drops the annoying gem infusion system which I hated and gives away with a lot of bad mechanics in favour of better ones, you can instantly change any weapon infusion on the fly and customize its skill.
I usually don't care for open world but I think it fits since Elden Ring is so nonlinear and free you can bring any character to your build gear and fight a lot of bosses in any order. It's the only game where you more or less always have at least 1 or 2 extra optional paths/areas too.
It kinda fits with the enviromental storytelling the series is known for.
The steed is situationally useful for closing distances and avoiding attacks and makes overworld bosses more unique, but not in a way that you can't fight without it, and since calling it is a consumable you can do it mid combat fairly easily.
It's a suprisingly very competent first open world game, unless you are turned off by the idea of facing minibosses that turn into common enemies

You find it in the first area. If you liked that hopefully you'll like doing the same fight 10 more times in the other areas because Elden Ring LOVES recycling all its bosses. This is why I said in a previous post the game is great until you're done with Limgrave, after that you've pretty much seen all the game has to offer except for the various sceneries. And this is only like 10% of the game. God I was so glad it was over when I finally got to the end.

If you like Souls games and want Dark Souls 3 but with better bosses, larger build variery, better level design and a more expansive story/world you'll like it.
If you want a short game with easy enemies that you can beat in one sitting it's not the game for you

It's really a sign of mental development. You can not like Dark Souls 2 while still appreciating what it set out to do. Dark Souls 3 is what happens when you try to appeal to everybody, you end up with something that is entirely worthless outside of its last DLC.

    Bloodborne is shit.

The vial mechanic where you have to farm them is garbage, the game is effectively pay to win cause there is a cum dungeons you can play IF YOU PAY THE PS PLUS that gives you vast amounts of souls. The game is confusing, it's hard to know where to go without a guide and the numerous endings that you can frick up and be locked out of are garbage.

I would say bloodborne is the game with the fewest people who actually beat it, cause it's annoying to play.

Dark Souls 1 is the worst in the series and I'm tired of pretending it's not. The first half is good, but Jesus Christ the 2nd half is such a slog. Half the game is an absolute chore to play, traverse, and doesn't even have any good boss fights to redeem the slog through the rest. This stuff can be tolerable when it's dispersed throughout a game, but when it's split into 2 linear halves of good & then bad, it's fricking awful.

Anyone who rates DSII as a D is a contrarion conformist seeking to fit in with the rest of the contrarians on Ganker. You were obviously filtered.

Anyone who rates elden ring as S tier is a shitter who enjoys open world slop and fotm games. You love parroting opinions of your favorite streamer and have a rotted brain. It is a good game at its core, but it is inflated with tedious filler that ruins the experience.

All the rest rate how you want, I'm not filling in an infographic:

    S - Sekiro, Bloodborne
    A - DSI, DSIII
    B - DSII, Demon's Souls
    C - Elden Ring
    D -

            still true KEK

It's really a sign of mental development. You can not like Dark Souls 2 while still appreciating what it set out to do. Dark Souls 3 is what happens when you try to appeal to everybody, you end up with something that is entirely worthless outside of its last DLC.

    Deadly strike = crit
    Critical strike = crit
On any hit both are checked.

If I have 30% chance to deadly strike, and 30% chance to critically strike, that means I have a 51% chance to crit, right? It's essentially an at least one success problem, right?

At least one success = 1 - chance of no successes
    = 1 - (no deadly strike)*(no critical strike)
    = 1 - (1 - chance of deadly strike)*(1 - chance of critical strike)
    = 1 - (1 - 0.3) * (1 - 0.3)
    = 1 - (0.7)*(0.7)
    = 1 - 0.49
    = 0.51

Go on, explain how it is worse than the games in the trash ripoffs list. If you really want, it can be moved into that list along with the original LotF

        Anonymous

        Alright.

        >Difficulty
There is no challenge to be found in Lords of the Fallen (new). And I'm not the kind of person that thinks the premier part of a "Souls-like" has to be ball-crushing difficulty. But there has to be at least SOME kind of challenge to compel the player to keep moving forward, and LotF does not have that. Not in the levels, not in the bosses. Every single two-phase boss in the game was a total joke, to the point where I kept expecting a third phase because there's no way it could be THAT easy. Like Harrower Dervla was hyped up in promotional footage and was basically Artorias mixed with Gael and Twin Princes, but I beat it in one try...what the frick?

        >Undercooked Umbral realm
Billed as the big "gimmick", there really wasn't much to it. The "puzzles", if you can call them that, just consisted of moving some platforms with an annoyingly slow animation. By the time you reach the swamp you've seen every Umbral-exclusive enemy in the game (part of the next problem below), and it's mostly just used so the player can cross over a gap and then leave as soon as possible so as not to deal with easy fodder enemies.

        >Enemy variety
You will be fighting the same archers, berserkers, and dogs for 80% of the damn game. The other 20% are some occasional area specific enemies and reused minibosses (and most bosses are just regular enemies powered up or with an Umbral gimmick).

        >Shitty combat
Even disregarding the weird gap closing and ice skating, each weapon category has a generic moveset shared by all weapons within that category. Once you've swung a greatsword, you've swung every greatsword. Ranged options are fricking broken, I had to stop using the lump hammer because it was trivializing already trivial encounters.

        >Bafflingly awful endings
One ending is just Deacons of the Deep with a shitty monologue, one is Pieta with some new moves, and one they didn't give a boss at all.

Hitting word limit but I could probably go on.

          Anonymous

          >generic movesets
          DeS reference
          >low enemy variety
Low budget so they made due
          >easy bosses
Bugged, patch fixed them so that they had the right defenses/let them use moves they should have been able to use
          >umbral realm
Concept alone is kino, player is incentivized to stay for the increased soul gain
          >awful endings
Umbral ending was fine, the other are mediocre
          >ranged options
Throwing weapons were overtuned, but the system as a whole is good for incentivizing melee builds to actually use ranged options outside of the bare minimum of throwing a dagger to draw aggro

Conclusion: it’s a meh game (which puts it above every ripoff tier game)

No, I don’t. LotF at actually has pacing, unlike Nioh. Nioh’s level design is trash, and having its playtime artificially extended via random loot drop grinding makes it worse.

Just don't understand how unless you're duelgayging. Actual invasions were much better in Dark Souls (and could have been better in Dark Souls 2 if it weren't for fricking Soul Memory), duelhomosexualry has always been the lowest tier of online interaction to me, and I guess I'm in the minority here since everyone else has proven with Elden Ring that they don't even want to fight other people they just want to steamroll the game with co-op.

    >at some point, the gameplay becomes mostly a running R1 fest
    >absent mindedly clearing out mobs in Legacy Dungeons(TM) with a large stick
    >as opposed to the slightly smaller stick I used in a previous build
Time and time again, I reach the conclusion that Souls games have peaked with the older ones. The larger the scope these games have, the more the shallow and braindead combat becomes apparent.

Souls was at its best when you had to endure a whole area and then fight a boss at the end (a bit like running a Ghosts n Goblins level). The combat was interesting due to a variety of scenarios and perilous level design (DeS Valley of Defilement being a prime example), not because of the mechanics themselves necessarily. The formula instead turned into a glorified EPIC boss rush with multiple phases and a focus on spectacle. I've been wondering if Lies of P "gets it". I have an itch to try it out, I'll probably buy it next time it's on sale.

        Anonymous

Whatever. I'm not going to pretend this shit I'm doing repeatedly in ER is fun or engaging, at least 70% of the game at this point basically plays itself. I don't expect things to change anytime soon, either. Most of the Souls fanbanse and Fromsoft themselves have set their minds to "bigger and more = better". The only thing left to do is treasure those older experiences that felt more well condensed and focused.

Great opinion. Also lies of P is extremely linear, and while the level design is competent it's not better than souls. From a pure combat perspective though, it's only surpassed by Sekiro and tied with BB imo.

        Thanks for the heads up.

I played Dark Souls 1 for the first time last year after playing every other FromSoft game, and it immediately felt worse to play and was more fundamentally flawed than everything that came after. I'm convinced that people who think it's the best Dark Souls game are blinded by nostalgia. The only other FromSoft souls-like that I haven't played is Demon's Souls but it looks more or less like Dark Souls 1 so I'm not interested.

NTA but that's kind of the problem, ER has great stuff, maybe some of the best in the series, but it's spread out with a bunch of bullshit in between. I know exactly what they were going for in ER and they succeeded, but that doesn't change the fact that you could cut out 75% of ER's playable space and the game would only benefit from it.

Stormveil, Farum Azula and the capital sewers are the only dungeons that even remotely approach Souls standards for level design. They still suck because you have a grace or statue every other step you take.

ranking post 2009 fromsoft games as a pc gamer
    ds1 ptde > seki > ac6 > ds2 vanilla > des rpcs3 > metal wolf chaos xd > ds3 > er > ninja blade
    explanation:
    >ds1 (10/10)
really unique experience even to this day, has the best world out of the bunch with god tier melancholic but hopeful atmosphere and art direction
every action has the right amount of weight
1st playthru will stick with you for the rest of ur life
    >seki (10/10)
peak action, some of the tightest combat and movement tech in recent vidya, the moment it clicks it's cathartic
    >ac6 (9/10)
best mecha game on the market, shame about the ost being forgettable
    >ds2 (8.5/10)
comfy mmo vibes of an era many feel nostalgia towards
has a charm that's hard to replicate
cut corners bring it down a bit but overall a wonderful adventure
    >des (8/10)
also a very nostalgic dungeon crawler with a crazy good vibe, brought down only by how unclear some of the mechanics and systems are
    >metal wolf (7/10)
actually fun arcade tps with great humor, once you get mid to endgame gear you feel like a wrecking crew
    >ds3 (7/10)
best ost they have done, consistent atmosphere and best lore out of the trilogy, but the world is so dull gray and oppressive it's easy to get burnt out fast
combat is very spammy compared to the rest of its kind
    >er (6.5/10)
WAY too bloated for its own good, overstays its welcome, should have cut out two thirds of it, but despite this, the scale of the game world is a highlight and the core gameplay is solid
story is forgettable compared to previous entries
    >ninja blade (5/10)
    busted as frick pc port
mediocre action but so corny and over the top it loops around to being pretty entertaining
    >ds1 remastered and ds2 sotfs
no need for these to exist
    >bb
hasn't been released on proper hardware
    >des remake
    combine the two above

Why? Are you a console pleb by chance?

No, it just guarantees that the ranking will be incomplete. Why would I give a shit about the opinion of someone who hasn't played Demon's Souls or Bloodborne, two cornerstones of the series? I have no use for uninformed, incomplete opinions.

          Other console pleb here.
Do I have to remind you how you PC players were unable to play PvP in all Souls games for more than a year becuase you are cheaters and FromSoftware needed time to remove the shit you made?

NTA but if you care the slightest bit about pvp, consoles are the way to go.

I PVP-ed plenty on PC though, it was alright. Couldn't care less about it though, these games shine elsewhere.

I have played Demon's Souls, you should have read just one line further.
I'll bother with Bloodborne when it's on adequate hardware, I'm in no rush. Then it will get graded.

Waiting for Bloodborne to get on PC before grading it is dishonest because you're not grading it based on the developer's vision, you're grading it based on what your non-intended hardware is making it look like. The game was designed with the PS4 in mind, with the PS4 frame rate and limitations in mind. Grading it based on anything else is dishonest and your grading cannot be taken seriously or be seen as sincere. In a similar vein, people who grade emulations of old games instead of the original game on the original hardware are also not to be trusted.

                >you should grade the game based on its downgraded art direction because of shit hardware, and shit framerate with less smooth combat
your point is not as great as you think it is

If you need higher frames to enjoy a game, then you don't really enjoy the game. Human eyes could get used to 30fps within an hour, maybe two at most. It'll look natural after a while and the game becomes perfectly playable. If you can't get used to it, then it's a problem with your vision and not a problem with the game.

A consistent theme I see is that everyone who dislikes das3 sucks at the games.

    DS1> BB > ER > DeS > DS3 > DS2
    One day I'll play Sekiro.

    bloodborne > sekiro > elden ring > dark souls > demon's souls > dark souls 2 = dark souls 3
dark souls 2 is more fun to play through but dark souls 3 has far better bosses so it kind of evens out

    BB > DS1 > DS3 > Sekiro > DeS > ER >>> DS2*

I think it's important to clarify that while DS2 is undeniably the worst game in the series, that still means it's better than 75% of all other shit out there. It just has the misfortune of being the worst game in an excellent series. I also understand anyone who doesn't count Sekiro, but for me it's inseparable from the others. It'd be weirder for me not to count it.

I get that Sekiro is an action game separate from Souls and even BB, but after BB and especially Sekiro, I have a hard time enjoying ER combat. It feels like a big step back to me.

I try not to let the mechanics of previous games influence how I feel about later games. BB and especially Sekiro play very differently from the games that came before and after them, so it doesn't seem right to try and hold them up to that standard. I like BB and Sekiro a lot, but if I had the choice I wouldn't wave a magic wand and make other games in the series play more like either of them. They all have their own identities. I don't dislike ER's combat, though it definitely lacks the nuance of Sekiro. The near-absurd variety of weapons and ashes in ER means that the systems themselves have to be relatively boring to accommodate all of the shit the player can do.

From an actual GAME perspective, Sekiro is the best souls game by a longshot. Aesthetically BB is the best and it's also fun. The Dark Souls trilogy sucks, and demon souls did not age well. Do not reply to me for I speak the truth.

    For those wondering, the canonical power ranking is DkS1 > BB > DeS >>> ER > DkS3 > DkS2

My favourite games in the series are Demon's Souls (Original, OBVIOUSLY) and Dark Souls 1. The atmosphere they radiate is phenomenal. I wish that FromSoftware would approach again that slower kind of gameplay, some day...

have it for years, tried to play and first 30 was boring....should I really give it a try?
