I mean its not that hard.
Switch uses 2013 hardware and Deck uses a low end APU.
With a recent Ryzen CPU it would beat both, what has me puzzled is if they are going to assemble it on Brazil to avoid the 100% tax on gaming devices.

When the PS3 came out, a major department store sold it for around $ 3720. Over SIX TIMES the original price. I recall that someone calculated: it was cheaper to fly to Miami, buy the PS3, spend a week in a nice beachfront hotel, and fly back to Brazil.

it really isn't that hard at all, the question is: is it financially viable? You have to figure out how much the customer base for steamdeck-like portables is willing to shill out for a unit. On top of that, you need battery life and for the unit not to set itself ablaze if it uses lots of power, even with a capable battery. Switch is definitely below-smartphone tier, but discussing it doesn't really make any sense here, because switch's job is to host nintendo games, and they don't really have any competition there.
deck is not as strong as it could have been but it is strong enough to do its job, while having an almost perfect price point not only for people who wanted something like that, but also enough to spark interest from ppl who never thought about needing one in the first place
i dont think the tech is advanced enough to create a viable Steam Deck competitor just yet

        Anonymous

        >Is it financially viable?
This. The real problem is that everyone is jumping on this market for whatever reason, and a small company can't compete with Asus and Lenovo when it comes to producing cheap electronics.
So why would I buy the Zeebo 2 for $1000, when the Rog Ally with the same exact hardware sells for $600. Aya Neo and GPD are getting fricked for the same exact reason, they don't have the economy of scale to compete with massive companies.

Technically Maxwell is from 2014 and the A57 is from 2013.
PS4 and Xbox One use GCN from 2012. The CPU (Jaguar) is from 2013... but AMD was so far behind at that point, Intel's Lynnfield from 2009 was better. So the year of release doesn't tell the whole story.
